Has anyone been following the story of the football players who are missing down in Florida? They found one man still clinging to the boat, but no sign of the other men. The boat overturned in stormy seas on Saturday night, and Nick Schuyler, who was rescued today, has been clinging to it ever since.

well sadly to say i think the others are long dead...there is a slim chance they might had made it to an island...or an other boat picked them up...only being held by pirates. but, yea those chances are slim.

Unfortunately, I have to agree BAM. I can't see how they survived.

wow what a terrible story. the only hope is that "all of them are past, present football players, who have a much larger physique than a lot of people, so their odds are going to be definitely in their favor." borrowing the lines of a Coast Guard officer.

however, "the chances of finding survivors diminish after people have been in the water three days". I am always shocked by that kind of story. it must've been a really tough night at the sea for them.

It's a very sad story. All you can do is hope, pray, and keep looking.

I thought that Arizona would have signed Kurt Warner by now. His demands seem reasonable in light of what he has done for the Cardinals. I don't think San Francisco is a good fit for him.

I watched a show last night from the NFL Network rating the top 10 linebacker corps of all time. They went through the 2000 Ravens, the Orange Crush group in Denver, the Giants of the late 80s, the '85 Bears, the early-70s Chiefs and the Steelers of the mid-90s and 70s.

I couldn't believe that the #1 corps was awarded to the Saints of the early 90s with Rickey Jackson, Vaughn Johnson, Sam Mills and Pat Swilling. Yeah, they were pretty darn good, but I don't think they rose above those mentioned above or some others.

I wonder if the fact that Jim Mora, who coached them, is an NFL Network analyst had anything to do with their selection. I was planning to watch the Top 10 Individual Seasons show, but after that I didn't feel like it.

I wasn't sure whether to post this in the video game section or the sports section, but I figured more baseball fans will see it and find it entertaining here. It's a commercial for a baseball video game with Tim Lincecum and his video game lookalike. Randy Johnson's line at the end makes me laugh.

EDIT: I think it's cool to see a young superstar pitcher in the same commercial as a veteran future hall-of-famer. Also, when he says "Lesson #1 - we're never late", that's sort of an inside joke to Lincecum being late and missing the team plane out of town his rookie year. The rest of the team held a meeting (started by Bonds of all people) about how as a professional you don't do that. He's been embarrassed ever since. It's funny to see him say that's rule one in the commercial.

Congratulations to the mens basketball team from my alma mater, Cleveland State University. Last night, the Vikings won their conference tournament and earned their first berth to the NCAA basketball tournament in 23 years.

Their run in 1986 was fun, as they upset #5 Indiana and then St. Joe's, only to lose in the Sweet 16 to David Robinson's Navy team by a single point.

President Barack Obama today announced his intent to nominate Steelers owner Dan Rooney as ambassador to Ireland.

In a White House ceremony this morning, Mr. Obama called Mr. Rooney a "great friend" and cited his efforts to support peace in Ireland.

"I am honored and grateful that such a dedicated and accomplished individual has agreed to serve as the representative of the United States to the Irish people," Mr. Obama said in a prepared statement.

That's great, Olivant.

The Rooneys are a class act all the way. My Dad was a union business agent at Yonkers Raceway for almost thirty years, so he had a close working relationship with the family, especially with Tim Rooney.

He still gets a Christmas and birthday gift from them. Great people to work for.

Rooney's a great pick for the job. He takes one vacation a year, and that is to Ireland. I'm happy for him. His son, Art, has been essentially running the Steelers while Dan was slowly reducing his activities.

I met Dan Rooney twice. The first time was just outside Veterans' Stadium in Philly after a pre-season Steeler/Eagle game. My boys were very young and a friend of a member in my family was a reserve player for the Steelers that summer, and told us where the team gets on the bus , so the boys could meet a couple players. I saw Rooney and approached him before the players exited the stadium. He was kind and cordial, thanked me for coming to the game and asked where I was from. He went to a nearby car and got some football cards for the boys.

I met him in the Pittsburgh Holiday Inn five or six years ago, which is where the Steelers stay the night before a home game. He was very gracious then too. His book, My 75 Years with the Pittsburgh Steelers and the NFL, is a good read.

A bit of useless Rooney trivia:

The endzones and goal posts at Heinz Field were designed so that a straight line can run from the exact point of the confluence of Pittsburgh's three rivers, through the center of both goalposts, and then to the living room of Dan's modest home in the Northside, which was also his childhood home. He may be the only owner of a professional team that lives across the street from a Wendy's.

Why don't all sports franchises copy the Steelers model? It has been so successful for decades now. It also costs so little. What other NFL owner has ever been considered for any federal government post let alone as an ambassador?

The NFL rule changes made me chuckle. It's a rule now that defenders can not tackle quarterbacks in the pocket by lunging or diving below the belt. This is because Tom Brady was injured on a legal hit. If Rex Grossman or Brodie Croyle had been so injured, the NFL would never be discussing this topic.

While Goodell is preaching player safety this week, he's also suggesting that they add two regular season games to the schedules? It shows that league revenue is still more important to him than player safety.

I agree with re-seeding the draft order of playoff teams, which will begin next year. The Chargers, who finished 8-8 but won a playoff game, will be drafting ahead of teams that missed the playoffs and the team they beat in the playoffs. In 2010 the non-playoff teams get the first twenty selections andthe playoff teams will be seeded according to playoff performance and then recor.

that rule change is basically making sure that the top qb's are not taken out...i mean if that would happen the NFL would loose money.

i like the idea of exending the season...if two pre-season are gone that is.

the re-seeding one is a good rule change as well.

one rule i wish they make is to stop the punters from kicking it out of bounds...that and i wish the wedge didnt get a rule change as well.

There are many ways that QBs have been injured, but the more the league seeks to protect, the more they dilute the game. Unlike the NBA, the NFL is a product-driven legue, and not a star driven league. Injuries occur, but the brand still brings in huge revenue.

ORLANDO, Fla. — Passionate football fans take heed: watching your team lose in the Super Bowl could be hazardous to your health.

Researchers have found that overall and circulatory death rates in Los Angeles rose significantly after a crushing defeat for the Rams in the 1980 Super Bowl at the hands of the Pittsburgh Steelers. Four years later, deaths declined after the city's other team -- the Raiders -- triumphed in the U.S. football championship game.

"The emotional stress of loss and/or the intensity of a game played in a high profile rivalry such as the Super Bowl can trigger total and cardiovascular deaths," said Dr. Robert Kloner, a professor of medicine at the University of Southern California, who presented the study at the American College of Cardiology scientific meeting in Orlando

The Phillies play the Yankees in NY on Memorial Day. My wife is a Yankee fan. We may take a family trip then. We may have to pay a premium if our scheduoles free us to go..
