Sorry to hear that. He was an incredible lineman, and a wonderful guy, who'll be missed.

I heard he was diagnosed with pancreatic cancer just last saturday and then died last night. What a shock... frown

I heard that too, Blibble. Obviously, the diagnosis was when the cancer was in an advanced stage. But knowing some people who have died from the same form of cancer, it is quite amazing that he was stoic (or stubborn) enough not to see a doctor until recently. It's a painful illness.

Upshaw was the only NFL player to play in Super Bowls in three different decades.

Supposedly there is a Sports Illustrated article about CC Sabathia that says he wants to play for the San Francisco Giants. Speculation obviously suggests that it's impossible for the Giants to sign him because of Zito's large contract. ARRRRGGGH!!! Freakin' Zito!!!! I've been patient with him so far... Now I've had it with him!! mad mad mad

*head explodes*

Sabathia and Lincecum would give the Giants a 1-2 punch like the Diamondbacks had with Schilling and Johnson.

The LPGA has required that athletes, participating in LPGA events, be able to speak English. Apparently, after two years foreign athletes will be given a brief test to determine whether they can speak and understand the language. If not, they face possible suspension. This, interestingly enough, only became an issue after Korean athletes have been winning the events.

Anyway, I got a good laugh yesterday afternoon, listening to two ESPN analysts on radio discussing that it is not too much to ask foreign athletes to "conversate" intelligently. One also used the word "irregardless."

Now I know some dictionaries list the word conversate as a corrupt form or slang for converse, but its use in this context washilarious. Before we require that foreigners speak the language or suffer a pecuniary loss, maybe we should require the naturally born Americans, particularly those earning a living by speaking through major media outlets, to learn the language.

I was just surprised the LPGA did this. Can you see this type of rule being implemented into say MLB? I know it never will but just imagine if it did.

This "washilarious" ...I'm not familiar with that word. It sounds like a fun bath.

Has anyone posted about Inside thre NFL moving to Showtime with a new cast? I won't watch it. I liked it on HBO and with the former crew. They said it had gotten boring. I liked it for its information and analysis. I didn't like that it had cut down on the game clips though. I think that's one big reason why some thought it had become boring.

With only about 12 games left in the season and the Brewers tied for the wild card in the NL, they fired their manager, Ned Yost, today.

They seemed to have a playoff spot sewn up a few weeks ago, but they have been playing poorly for a few weeks now.

The Brewers acquired Sabathia in June, knowing that in the off-season they're likely to lose him and another top pitcher on their staff, Ben Sheets. This was to be their shot at a postseason run, and they see it slipping away. They collapsed last year too. Normally, I would disagree with such a move, but under the present situation of the Brewers, I can't fault them for making a bold move.

Milwaukee's loss tonight may be their most painful loss in franchise history. They're still only a game and a half out of the wild card, but I don't think they can rebound.

Mired in a slump, they take a 6-2 lead into the ninth, retire the first two batters, but end up losing the game.

I've been rooting for the Brewers so I hate to see them fall apart like this. I still don't understand why they fired Yost this late in the season. Even if he was a bad coach it doesn't do any good for the morale of a team to lose their leader with only handful of games to go. I think if they can sneak into the playoffs they have a good chance at going far with Ben Sheets and CC Sabathia pitching!

Not when some other team buys Sabathia next year (which I hope will be the Yankees). I definitely would have liked to see Milwaukee go far.

If I had to guess at this point, I think it will be an Angels-Cubs series. But you never know.

I meant far in the playoffs, not into next season wink.

I still want to see the Angels beat somebody in the playoffs, mainly the Red Sox. I think they clinch a playoff spot so early that it messes with them and they aren't ever ready for the playoffs.
