They'll go 8-8, or 7-9.

I like Garcia, so I'm happy he didn't end up in Tampa as well for his sake.

I posted a few pics of myself a long time ago that must have somehow got deleted because they're not in the old timers thread. Those pics are no longer on my hd so I thought why not post a new one. It's a shame because the pics that were lost were a little better than this one. Anywho, since this is the random SPORTS whoring thread I thought it would be appropriate to post a pic of me last year at the Baseball Hall Of Fame.

DJ, that WAS a really cool pic!! Sorry that I didn't comment on it. How'd you like Cooperstown? It's a nice place.

Thanks SB and DS. Yeah I didn't mean to draw attention to myself but the pic wound up on the bottom of the page so...Yeah, Cooperstown was fantastic! My dad and I drove over and I don't remember exactly but I think it took about 5 or 6 hours maybe more, something like that at least. When we got there we were struck by the beauty and quaint nature of the town itself. We stayed at the Cooperstown Motel http://www.cooperstownmotel.com/ which wasn't exactly the Ritz or anything but it was clean had a television, two beds and washroom and what more do you need really?

The museum itself is breathtaking and filled with so much memorabilia and so many artifacts that it will make your head spin. Just being in a place where so many historical events have taken place and the best players to ever play the game have roamed was worth the trip alone. There are many baseball card/memorabilia shops around the museum so if you have kids that are into the game and want souvenirs there are plenty of opportunities for that kinda thing. There are also many restaurants and cafes around the museum that are within walking distance.

Overall I'd say without exaggeration, that it was really the experience of a liftime. I plan to go again soon and I highly recommend every baseball fan to make the trip at least once.

When I was in economic development, the Business Council of NY had a conference in Cooperstown every May. It was a great place to have it. We stayed at the Otesaga, which is just lovely. There are also lots and lots of B&Bs there as well. Most of them are sold out years in advance for HoF week.

I recommend the trip to anyone who is interested in baseball. And for those who are not, DJ is right. It is a beautiful little town with lots of little shops and good restaurants. And the lake is just gorgeous. I also hear that the opera house is first class, but have never been there.

Glad that you enjoyed it so much. And what a nice way to spend time with your dad!!

Not to mention, it's the only Championship caliber golf course in the entire region. Cooperstown is an all-around great place for a family vacation.

An interesting fact: The National Soccer Hall of Fame and Museum is also located in Cooperstown, or more accurately Oneonta.

Adam Dunn to the Diamondbacks for minor league pitcher Dallas Buck and two players to be named later.

Amazing game in Fenway tonight. The RedSox take a 10-0 lead in the first inning and find themselves trailing in the sixth. They score four in the eighth and hold on to win it, 19-17. There were 37 hits in the game.

What ESPN won't tell you is that David Ortiz became the second player in MLB history to hit two first inning homers in the same game.

It was first done in 1985. Anybody know who the other guy was?

I don't know the answer, but Carolos Baerga was the first MLB to hit two homeruns from different sides of the plate in the same inning of a game (1993).

The record that will never be broken is Tatis (I think) hitting two grandslams off of the same pitcher, Chan Ho Park, in the same inning. Why will it not be broken? No manager will ever be dumb enough to give up a granny, load the bases again, and then allow the same pitcher to face a guy who had homered that inning.

The answer is Von Hayes of the Phillies, who hit two first inning homers in the same game for the first time in MLB history in June, 1985. The Phillies won the game against the Mets, 26-7.

Man ESPN really makes me laugh sometimes. Right now their ESPN Sports Nation poll asks the question: Which award does CC Sabathia most deserve?

-NL Cy Young (38%)
-NL MVP (6%)
-Both (14%)
-Neither (42%)

The man's only played in 9 games for the Brewers and already 38% of the people think's he should get the Cy Young and 14% think he deserves both eek Don't get me wrong, Sabathia has been nothing short of dominant since moving to the NL (8-0 with a 1.60 ERA). But what about guys like Brandon Webb (18-4 with a 2.85 ERA) and Johan Santana (11-7 with a 2.75 ERA) who have been doing it all season?

Those figures are unrealistic as ESPN typically presents a story overhyping an athlete and immediately puts out a poll, so the eighth graders run to their computers with a video highlight reel of Sabathia fresh in their heads, and they cast their votes. Then ESPN passes on the results as if they had scientific value. They could do a story on Manny Ramirez' couple of weeks with the Dodgers, and there'd be votes for him for MVP. smile

The NL Cy Young is a 3 dog race with Webb in the lead, followed by Lincecum and Volquez. They have separated themselves from every other starter in the NL this season.

CC Sabathia has been amazing since he arrived in Milwaukee. He had inconsistent outings for the first half of the season in Cleveland, but he will certainly command a lot of interest in the off-season, especially if he reaches and does well in the post-season. An early prediction is that he signs with the Dodgers. He's from Vallejo, liked the Dodgers growing up, and he loooooooves to bat.

A good question that I can't answer. I heard it mentioned on a late night Brewer telecast on the MLB Extra Innings package (yes, I can be addicted easily to watching hours of baseball every night blush).

I understand that Vallejo is in the Bay area and the only thing I know about the city is that it was planning to file for bankruptcy, and it is the birthplace of two colorful former major leaguers, Tug McGraw and Bill Buckner.

Sabathia is also a big Raiders and Warriors fan. Until now I never heard who he rooted for in baseball growing up. I'm shocked he wasn't an A's or Giants fan.

I see that Gene Upshaw, from the NFL players union, has died. I didn't even know he was ill. He was a helluva an offensive lineman for the Ray-dahs back in the 70s/80s.
