If that number was not incredible enough, he hit 13 consecutive homers at one point. Lots of fun to watch this guy rebound from the depths of hell he was in several years ago. clap

They need to re-vamp the HR Derby rules or something. If you wipe out the first two rounds and only #3 counts why bother hitting that well to begin with. Just save it all for the end.

I watched the introductions for the All-Star game and was a little disappointed by some of the crowd reactions (or better yet, the lack of it). A few random thoughts:

I loved that Yogi Berra and Willie Stargell got such great ovations!

I think the loudest ovation was for Derek Jeter, and as the team captain in his home park, it should have been so.

What was up with Willie Mays? He just stood there growling.

Those players that I would've loved to see there tonight - Sandy Koufax, Stan Musial and Duke Snider.

They should have had Babe Ruth's daughter there.

Most touching moment - seeing Yogi throw the first pitch.

I loved that Yogi kept wanting to throw the ball from a closer point. He's just so great.

Anyone else think that Steinbrenner had a stroke? He never got out of the cart, and his mouth was twisted on one side.

I thought the same thing about Mays. I thought at first that he might not have heard his name.

Edit: And the stealth plane was very cool, too.

I didn't realize they were introducing all the old timers. I turned in on to see my old favorites, Brooks Robinson, Frank Robinson and Earl Weaver.

Willie Mays looks like he did not want to be there. He's one of the greatest and I respect him, but I think it was rude of him not to shake the current All Star players hands. It's as if they're not worthy.

And it was great to see Hank Aaron. Now he's the real deal. No steroids there.

Maybe Willie had to pee or something. lol Like in that Detrol commercial.

There were many HOFer's that weren't there, but still, it was REALLY impressive to see so many of them on the field at one time (ESPECIALLY as a "farewell" to the house that Ruth built).

Sure, it's hokey and sappy but I LOVE that kind of stuff! When I was a kid I used to love to see the annual oldtimer's game (they'd play two or three innings and it was awesome to see the old stars batting and fielding). They'd always introduce DiMaggio last (saving the best for last) and he'd always get a great ovation. They'd also introduce Mrs. Lou Gehrig and Mrs. Babe Ruth (sitting in a field box). True baseball royalty!

I would have loved to have been there. I know I would have been cheering to the point I didn't have a voice left.

BTW - It was fun to see Aramis Ramirez being introduced. He's the guy that kept me in stitches in Chicago!

I didn't get to see any of the pregame ceremonies, but I noticed the observations on Willie Mays. I don't know if it has anything to do with it, but I understand that he's in poor health. I have a baseball that he autographed years ago, and it's barely legible. I was told that he has some progressive disorder.

I'm glad I didn't attempt to watch the whole game. I think it was just ending as I was getting up.

I did see the highlights on ESPN. In the past I always felt the players took this game as just being for show, and not putting 100% into it. Last night proved me wrong. Those guys hussled and really put their hearts into it. It would have been great to watch the whole thing, and even better to see it in person.

Here's another shot worthy of sharing (courtesy of gina) -
Yogi Berra throwing out the first pitch:

It was funny to notice that Whitey Ford's first pitch bounced before being caught by it's catcher. Ford was arguably the premier pitcher in the league in his hey-day.

Rocco Mediate, who lost the U.S. Open to Tiger in a classic playoff last month, is leading the British Open after Round 1.

What a great story!!!!

Long as I remember The rain been coming down.
Clouds of Mystery pouring Confusion on the ground.
Good men through the ages, Trying to find the sun;
And I wonder, Still I wonder, Who'll stop the rain.

Watching the replay of the '08 ESPY's... I don't know, I think Timberlake's been doing pretty well as host (of all people!)

In short, Papelbum said he thought he should be the closer for the All-Star game and not Mariano Rivera, then quickly retracted his statements.
