I'm new. The quiz thread cracked me up, I thought I'd register as you all seemed like a bunch of friendly folks.

I've been re-watching GF I + II but there are still some questions I have about the films:

1) In Part III Mary tells Vincent that her father is Italian, but in Part II Michael actually says that he is an American hiding in Sicily. So what do you say - is Michael Italian or American?

2) Who was the person killed by Michael's bodyguard at the hotel balcony in Havana?

3) When Fredo arrived in Havana why did the bodyguard seemed a little reluctant to shake his (Fredo's) hand?

4) Whatever happened to the cop that witnessed the Rosato brothers' attempt to kill Frank?

5) Who was the person in brown suit that went to Roth's front door before Michael did?

6) Was the baby shown in young Vito's first scene (NYC 1917) Sonny? Then who was the second baby in a later scene where you hear Mama Corleone says 'Look how pretty it is, Santino!'

I'd appreciate some answers here. Thanks.

Thanks. Yes I did notice an editing error in GF that's not listed on the Goofs section of iMdb. If you look closely at Michael during his meeting with Moe Greene, you'd see that he draws the same pack of cigarettes twice.

1. You see the back of Michael as he reaches for the cigs.


2. He gets his cigs.


3. Then in the next cut he reaches his hand into his pocket and gets out the same pack again!

An anomaly in that scene: Though FFC was absolutely, fanatically meticulous about getting period details right, note that a guy standing behind Moe is wearing a "formal turtleneck" shirt. That style--wearing a turtleneck with a sports jacket instead of a shirt and tie--didn't come in until the mid to late Sixties--10 to 12 years after that scene was set. The guy's hairstyle looks wrong for that period, too.

Well, Moe Greene was "a man of vision." He probably saw the trends coming and clued in his men.

Keen observation TB, but I would offer this (courtesy of Wikipedia) Apparently Turtle necks were originally worn as sportswear, but began to apear as casual wear in the 1920's. They became something of a fashion statement by artists and intellectuals, and apparently during that era people like Noel Coward took to wearing them. By the 1950's they were worn by beatniks and people who considered themselves to be artists, including Hollywood types, so it is conceivable that someone connecetd to the show biz side of Moe's operation could have worn a turtle neck in the mid fifties, but probably not likely. I agree the hair is wrong for that era.

Hey... enough with the arguing over this scene. What happens in Vegas, stays in Vegas.

I have a minute question, if you will;

When Connie arrives at the communion party in Tahoe and has her conversation with Carmella about Michael and "waiting on line" to see him, is Carmella's line about waiting "just like everyone else" directed in annoyance towards Connie feeling entitled and in accordance with understanding (I guess) the process that Michael deals with at these things (like Vito) or is it directed towards Michael treating "family" like any other business proceedings?

Oh no... it's definately directed at Connie. Her mother was already annoyed with Connie, in the first place, because of her behavior and her tardiness.

...especially for that grand, sweeping, "only-little-people-wait-in-line" attitude Connie flashed at her.

I love how Mama tries shunning Merle when he greets her and goes to kiss her. She really conveys the ill feeling that she has for him just by her making that little gesture of hers. A real "get away from me you peon piece of dirt" move! A really good piece of acting on Morgana King's part in that scene.

I agree with you DC... she was always really good to me... my favorite is the infamous "Can a man lose his Family" scene.

I also agree that she stole that scene. Aside from what everyone else has mentioned, she goes out of her way to introduce the "family priest" ... definitely an indirect shot at Connie's behavior. Also after Connie complains about having to waitin line, she scolds her and says "Go see your children first." Also, like Michael, she never says a word to Merle.

Or so Fredo thought when he was banging those cocktail waitresses.

Right?? Michael turned out to be a little rat. He ran out home to Daddy and probably blurted out that Fredo was bangin 'em two at a time.

Whatever it takes to make sure Fredo gets passed over.

That is good acting on King's part. I also love her exchange in Italian with Tom when Merle and Deanna are being introduced. Priceless!
