Boiling hot today!

The kids have been in the paddling pool all day and we had barbecue for dinner!

My in-the-wall A/C unit in this room can't keep up when it's this hot, especially with the sun pounding down from the West in the afternoons. Was just talking to a friend on the phone and he asked if I had recently cleaned out the filter. I'm like, uh, I've been here over 7 years and never touched it! ...maybe that'd help.

You should clean the filter every time you do laundry.

Oh wait, that'd be every seven years for you.

Never mind.

I rinsed out the A/C filter under the tub's faucet -- big black chunks and brown water resulted.

The dog stays downstairs. The two of them have met face-to-face a few times and its been OK, but I'd rather not have him stay upstairs with me (he eats Ozzie's food).

Actually, little by little the past week I've been doing some cleaning. It's quite the task in my place (ever see on the news those stories of people's apartments being ridiculously messy/overrun? That'd be me! )

My daughter took me grocery shopping and just from getting in and out of the car I'm sweating bullets. The heat index is supposed to get to 110 today. My house feels like an oven. If the summer gets worse than this I might not make it.

Anyone have a couple grand to spare so I can get central air?

I feel your pain Beth. When we lived in hell(WV) we didn't have any kind ac. Just box fans and ceiling fans. Our bastard landlord would not let us put a window unit in.

And when it rained he said we had to close the windows so the rain wouldn't come in. And he lived next door. He would always call and ask us if we had the windows shut. I told him I wasn't gonna burn up just cuz it was raining.

What a blessing it was to move out of there.

That's horrible Mig. I don't know about Renter's rights, but I don't see how a landlord could tell you not to put a/c in, unless he knew the house wasn't equipped with enough power to support it.

When it's hot like this having the box unit in the window is hardly enough. The one in the bedroom works well, but I don't have a tv up there, so unless I'm reading or taking a nap that does me no good.

I keep thinking I want to invest in central air, but whenever my daughter finally moves out I'm selling this place and getting out of dodge. So why spend money for someone else to enjoy.

Great, now we're having heat lightning. If we're gonna have a light show in the sky at least have some rain to cool things off. The wind is picking up, and my neighbor's tree branches are banging into my bedroom window. Since it's lightning I had to turn my window fans off. As much as I want to move out of this house I don't want it to burn to the ground.

Yahoo says it's cooled down to a wintry 81° The A/C units have finally chilled the place down after, what, 10 hours? ...to think it's only gonna get hotter and hotter the next few days -- sorry, Bethie! (This is why I don't really bitch when it's cold out any more )

I've taken my 3rd cold shower today. My department of public works is gonna love my next water bill. I have an 80th birthday party for my ex pastor's wife to go to tomorrow. It's after church services tomorrow, so I'll be at church, plus the party. So at least that's a couple hours I'll be in air conditioning. They have a lot of old people, so they'll make sure that's working.

Ever been to an old person's house? They're hot as hell!! I swear my dad keeps it at 78° -- I can't stand it! If I lowered it to a normal 72° he'd probably put on a parka. (Back in the day, before they reached Senior Citizen status, our house was always like a freezing 68° in the summer! lol)...

Unfortunately like me and my mom a lot of them have breathing problems. So the rest of the old farts can just bring their panchos.

6:00 a.m. and the City temperature is 78° already (although a little cooler at 71° locally). I had the a/c going all night so my bedroom was comfortable but my living room stayed at 80° during the overnight hours.

Gonna be in the mid 90's today and even hotter tomorrow.

Keep your windows covered (blinds or curtains) and start the a/c BEFORE the heat of the day.

Ha ha...that would be me! Only I've always have tended to be "always" chilly and am able, for some reason, to stand the heat more than the 'normal' person. Nobody at work will ever ask me "Is it hot in here?" It's like a joke. They'll start to ask and then say, "look who I'm asking." I get teased all the time by them.
I too am the one that bitches when the air is so high I'm freezing. I'd rather be a little hot than cold. Of course though, I don't go for strolls in 100 temps though.

I slept with the a/c on high all night. Usually it would get chilly enough that I would need to put a blanket on. It felt quite good. I could lay in there all day.
