I just picked up "Red Dragon" by Thomas Harris. Its the first novel in Hannibal Lecter series, copyright in 1981 (reprinted in 1990). On the cover is a quote from Stephen King "The best popular novel to be published in America since "The Godfather."

Yeah, my copy says the same. Red Dragon is an ok book, the original film of it; Manhunter is great though. Watch out for Red Dragon the new version soon.

I read Red Dragon just last week and enjoyed it. I heard Manhunter was a so-so movie, but I may still watch it.

Manhunter is one of those underrated films because of Anthony Hopkins doing such a good role as Lector. I seriously can hardly differentiate between Hopkins and the Scottish Brian Cox versions of Lector. Although Lector takes a secondary role in both Manhunter and Silence.
