Paul does remind me in a way of Groucho Marx. I was just noticing the resemblance while watching the movie.

I was looking back at some of the old posts in the sports forum - some really great stuff there to reminisce about, especially involving Plaw.

You Know You're A Bit Too Into Fantasy Sports...

That IS some funny stuff. I had all but forgotten about that.

It wasn't until I joined BBC that I figured out who he was.

This one cracks me up - I love the "a bit knowledgeable" part.

He'd do that all the time.

Check out the last post in this thread...

As much as Paul loved discussing sports, he loved the competition of betting on them more. He liked to push his knowledge to the limits and was happiest when there was a large group involved (and he invariably was always among the leaders).

All you had to do was say you watched sports, knew what a sport was or lived near a stadium and Paul would invite you to play fantasy sports.

And then he'd curse you if you didn't stay up until 2:00AM to get all the sports news from the night before. \:\)

By the way, DC, you just passed Plawrence in total posts.

While I appreciate your compliment DS, and know that what you say comes from the heart, great is a bit too strong of a word to use in reference to me.

So please, let's keep this thread totally dedicated to the memory of our great friend Plawrence.

Although I did not have the good fortune to get to know plawrence as well as some others on the board, in what little interaction we had he was always a gentleman. Plaw, used to rag on me on how I'm a Toronto homer and as usual he was right. At the same time him complimenting me on my writing meant an awful lot to me.

Plaw's wry, razor sharp wit and quality of writing will most definitely be missed by myself and the others that he interacted with on the boards. I only hope that we can live up to the high standards set by plaw on these boards and in our daily lives.

God bless you Plaw, I'll see you when I get there brother.

Rest In Peace

I'm amazed at how someone whom many people have never met, myself included, could have such an impact on others. He really was a brilliant person. I know I've been absent from the board for a long time but I still think of him from time to time.

Some people come and go in your life with hardly a notice. Not so Paul. He left an indelible mark on all lives he touched, even if it was only conversations with someone on the internet. That was the kind of guy he was. Everyone who met him or chatted with him online is better off for having done so.

I think of him often and just a few days ago I turned on the light in my bedroom and it burned out. The last time this happened was on the day Paul was buried. I surprised myself by instantly calling out his name, as if to ask if he was there.

I wish he was.

I know what you mean, SC. There are days that I can't believe he's gone. I miss him so much, especially with this presidential campaign. He loved politics so much, I often wonder what he would he would be making of this race.

I am reminded of PLaw today, as I read a story about new items "found" regarding the JFK assasination. He was very knowledgeable on the subject that's been a hot topic with me since day one. I can imagine he'd be an eager participant in the discussion.

Miss ya PLaw. \:\(

SC's birthday yesterday means something else: the anniversary of Plaw's birth today. It's been almost 1.5 years since he left us, and the reverberations still carry on, especially in the Sports forum. I miss our friend, who'd be carrying on and on at even the thought of a "weekly" fantasy baseball game. And I'm sure he's watching over us keeping Uber standings for us all, and surely I've disappointed him this year lol. God bless, Plaw - and "happy birthday"!

I studied Italian for 2 semesters. Not once was a "C" pronounced as a "G", and never was a trailing "I" ignored! And I'm from Jersey! tongue lol

Paul would have been 59 today. I would have loved to have been able to tease him about his last year in his 50's.

Happy Birthday in heaven, PaulieBoy.

There are so many days when I miss him, and wish he were here to talk to. I sometimes talk to him in my head, telling him a funny story about what happened during my day. I wish he were here to blow out his candles.

Plawence, though I wasn't a member when you were here, seeing your posts, and everybody's stories of you, I fell like I knew you, and when I found out, I cried. So Happy Birthday buddy \:\)

He - (Simón Bolívar) - was shaken by the overwhelming revelation that the headlong race between his misfortunes and his dreams was at that moment reaching the finishing line. The rest was darkness. "Damn it," He sighed. "How will I ever get out of this labyrinth!"

So what’s the labyrinth?

That’s the mystery isn’t it? Is the labyrinth living or dying? Which is he trying to escape - the world, or, the end of it?

I didn't realize (or forgot) Plaw's birthday was this time of year. Happy Birthday Paul. \:\)

I still think of him, and just the fact that all of us coming back to this thread from time to time shows just how much he was loved on the BB.

Because Paul's been on my mind so much, I went back and looked at some of his old posts. I especially enjoyed reading the debates that he either started and/or was responding to.

He was such a witty and intelligent man. I realized how much I came to depend on our daily chats, and what a hole their absence has left in my life. Rereading those posts made me want to simultaneously weep and smile.
