Gas is always on the rise... but its a paradox, I've thought about it, but what can you do? The best you can do is maybe by ten 5-gallon gas containers and "store it" but after you've spent the money on gas containers (which I imagine are MORE than $1/each) the money you will save when it jumps a dollar this summer is cancelled out?

Trust me, I have NO LOVE for the corporate oil industries, but why do we have no problem paying $1 for a half liter of fancy water, but then object to paying $3 for a gallon of something that has to be pulled out of the ground with million-dollar machinery, refined, shipped tens of thousands of miles away, then trucked to your local gas station? Obviously we need it to drive to work, but if we do, time to cash out that SUV and buy a reasonable form of transportation when we don't need to haul 10 people and/or a ton of camping equipment just to go to the grocery store to buy that liter of water and other stuff \:\)

Buying gas for the car doesnt hurt me as much as paying to heat the house, I spend about 1/10th on gas for the car than I do on home heating \:\(

We've been filling up at a half a tank instead of letting it get empty. Not as expensive that way.

Pfft. My water cooler/heater costs $1/gallon and my heat/cooking gas is included in my rent.

I studied Italian for 2 semesters. Not once was a "C" pronounced as a "G", and never was a trailing "I" ignored! And I'm from Jersey! tongue lol

TIS

Tell me about it TIS.

Over here, if we want to drive off of Staten Island, we have to use one of 4 bridges. The bastards just raised the tolls at EVERY Bridge Crossing! The three Bridges connecting Staten Island to New Jersey just went from $6.00 to $8.00! And the Verrazano Bridge connecting Staten Island to Brooklyn just went from $9.00 to $10.00!

Talk about adding salt to the wound already inflicted to us by rising gas prices! They're f**king criminals. Worse than the Mob!

So does that mean you wait until your tank is half FULL or half EMPTY?

What I meant was, if you use 5 gallons every week, you still have to buy 20 gallons a month, whether you buy it every 5 gallons or 10 gallons or every 20 gallons. You're still spending the same. Only the frequency changes.

My husband has to fill his tank three times a week, and DAMN that's adding up each month. Last night he filled up at Costco and it was $3.09. It was $2.95 just last week. He swears that the Costco gas gets him better mileage, though.

I think some stations you get better mileage than at others. Like the gas station at Walmart I get good mileage.

It's all really one and the same. There are slight variations. The primary difference between brands is the amount of detergent the distributors add to it, but the difference is generally minor. The EPA requires all gas to have a minimum amount of detergent to keep a car's engine clean. So in reality most people pay for what's called "Brand Loyalty" because they feel more comfortable dealing with a particular brand.

Several years ago a study was done in Maryland examining the difference between name brand and generic brand gas. After a slew of tests, they came out to be basically the same.

There's what's called Dealer tank wagon prices which is a gasoline station that sells gasoline under the name of a large oil company which usually includes the expense of trademark rights, credit card usage, and mostly the cost advertising. This is the name brand gasoline, the Mobils, Exxons, etc, that have higher gas prices.

Then there is what's called Rack priced Gasoline which only real expense is the transportation cost to move the gasoline from the refinery to the terminal. There ususally are no advertising expenses involved, or costly trademark rights. And because there is no advertising and it is NOT being sold under the name of a large oil company, it can be sold cheaper, hence the generic brand gasoline.

And as far as Costco's cheaper gas prices, the reason that they are able to sell it cheaper is because they rely on the sales INSIDE the store as well as their MEMBERSHIP FEES to make up the difference for them profit wise. But I understand that there is some kind of arguing, within the industry, going on right now that Costco Gas should NOT be exclusive to it's members at a cheaper price! Rumor has it that they may be forced to offer their gasoline to everyone, regardless if they are a Costco member or not. And that's going to translate into Costco rasing the price of their gasoline if this goes through.

Well, he swears that when he bought gas at our local Shell, he would have to fill up every 2.5 trips, and with gas from Costco, he can go 3 trips before he has to fill the tank again. Considering that he travels over 60 miles each way, that's a lot better bang for the buck.

Maybe the Shell station is actually farther than where the Costco station is from where he has to go! ;\)

Which is why I am glad I get 45mpg!

I'm only 3 miles from work. If I didn't have to take the kids to all their places I'd bike. No need to feed the beast.

The news announces today that gas has reached an all time high; fourth day in a row. I'm sure the "record" will be broken, and broken, and broken....
Highest in the nation, California average - $3.62
Lowest, New Jersey (where I live) - $3.04.
I paid $2.99 this morning.

A few weeks ago I had a colonoscopy. Thankfully all is clear, but the screwing I'm taking at the PUMP has caused an increase in the hemorhoid factor. \:o

Most places in my travels are $3.25-$3.29, but I have a place near my home that is $3.19.
I drive usually 1,500 miles per week. I get a mileage reimbursement of $0.505 per mile for some of it. It still hurts the old wallet.
