Dana Jacobson is being disciplined for remarks she made at the Mike and Mike roast last week.

While I have never been a fan of hers, and don't know what the comments were, this was a ROAST. The nature of which is to be outrageous and vulgar. If she said it on the air I think it would be different.

ESPN's Jacobson disciplined for roast remarks

Dana Jacobson, co-host of ESPN2's "First Take," is currently being disciplined for remarks made at a Jan. 11 celebrity roast for ESPN Radio personalities Mike Greenberg and Mike Golic.

Her characterizations of the Notre Dame football program, which have been criticized by a Catholic organization, were deemed "inappropriate" by the network, which issued the following statement from Jacobson:

"I am sorry. My remarks about Notre Dame were foolish and insensitive. I respect all religions and did not mean anything derogatory by my poorly chosen words. I also deeply regret the embarrassment I've caused ESPN and Mike and Mike.

"My actions at the roast were inappropriate and in no way represent who I am. I won't make excuses for my behavior, but I do hope I can be forgiven for such a poor lack of judgment."

It sounds as though she may have made some derogatory remarks about Catholics, which were made in jest, but may have been inappropriate. I'm not a big fan of hers either, but I'd give her a pass as I'm sure she was just trying to be funny.

This roast was an awkward thing because while the ESPN personalities are sometimes witty and clever, they aren't comedians, and a celebrity roast takes them out of their element a bit. Religion is a sensitive topic to joke about in such settings. I'm wondering if her remark got a laugh or a groan.

I think Golic and Greenberg are the best thing about ESPN. They have a very entertaining show. Colin Cowherd is also entertaining and does a great job.

I just saw the Jacobson remark. She reportedly said, F*** Notre Dame, F*** Touchdown Jesus, F*** Jesus." Yep, a network will suspend you for that.

Again, I don't think there was any harm intended, but the remarks bring a sense of shame and embarrassment to her network, and make her look incredibly foolish. Her reputation as a reporter and anchor and her credibility and judgment are going to take a hit.

A Colts fan and Bears fan collide in a huge accident on the way to Miami. Both cars are a wreck, but both men are unhurt.

"This must be a sign from God that we are meant to be friends." says the Bears fan. "I agree," replies the Colts fan.

The Bears fan then returns to the wreckage of his car and finds a bottle of whiskey he had been saving.

"Look," he says to the Colts fan, "this must be another sign from God, we should drink this whiskey to celebrate our friendship and survival"

He hands the bottle over to the Colts fan who takes a large gulp from the bottle before passing it back to the Bears fan, who then puts the top back on and returns the bottle to his car.

"Aren't you having any?" asks the Colts fan. "No," replies the Bears fan, "I think I'll wait 'til the police get here."

My sons and I went to the Notre Dame/Villanova game today in Philly. It was a great way to spend a January afternoon, and the Irish rose to the occasion. Both teams played well.

I've had it with Al Davis!

How am I supposed to be a Raider fan when Al Davis is apparently trying his hardest to make the team a heaping pile of elephant crap?

He has supposedly written a letter of resignation for Coach Lane Kiffin and expects him to sign. What a freakin' joke! I respect Kiffin for being the only person in Raider history to stand up to Davis and say "I dare you to fire me" because then he would still make his $4 million.

I don't know if Davis is senile or what, but he has definitely gone crazy. How could he expect Kiffin to take a team that has been at the bottom for four years and expect anything more than a 4-12 season? Kiffin needs time to rebuild!

The one thing Lane Kiffin did that no coach has been able to do since their 2002 Superbowl appearance is keep the team focused and trying to win. There were no public complaints from the players like there has been in the past, which were usually lead by the dog Randy Moss.

For the first time in five years Raider fans have hope. With young Lane Kiffin leading the team with talented Jamarcus Russell waiting to be the quarterback of the future, Raider fans couldn't help but feel like the team was going somewhere, finally! And then Al Davis has to open his mouth and shove all of our hearts into the garbage disposal.

If only it was possible to fire the owner of a team. Al Davis needs to go. It's impossible for me to switch allegiance to another team, but right now it's also impossible to be a Raider fan.

Thank you for reading my rant if in fact you made this far.

I haven't watched a Nets game in a while. I wonder if he still blows those annoying kisses to the basketball net before a free throw.

Petitte backs McNamee against Rog. Now Rog says they're both liars.

DAMNING WORDS
REPORT: PETTITTE BACKED TRAINER VS. ROG
By BRIAN COSTELLO
Andy PettitteNew York or New Jersey, who cares... 18-1... I'm not even a Giants fan but I love it. Now that's perfect!
posted by NY&CaliClick here to comment
February 12, 2008 -- Andy PettitteAndy Pettitte was excused yesterday from testifying against his friend Roger ClemensRoger Clemens at a congressional hearing - but it appears Pettitte already has done plenty of damage to Clemens' contention that he never used steroids or human growth hormone.

Rep. Tom Davis, the ranking Republican on the congressional committee investigating steroid use in baseball, told Newsday that Pettitte, in his deposition last week, backed up the account of Brian McNamee, the former trainer of Clemens and Pettitte.

McNamee has said Clemens used steroids and human growth hormone.

Davis told the newspaper that Pettitte's testimony matches McNamee's in most details, but that Clemens, in his deposition last week, said both of them are mistaken.

Pettitte asked to be excused from tomorrow's congressional hearing so that he would not have to testify against Clemens, and the committee's leaders granted him his request. They also excused Kirk Radomski and Chuck Knoblauch from the hearing, and Radomski from giving a deposition today.

That leaves Clemens and his accuser, McNamee, in a showdown tomorrow. They will be joined by one new witness, a member of former Senator George Mitchell's staff, Charlie Scheeler.

The move to excuse Pettitte, Knoblauch and Radomski came last night after discussions between the leadership of the House Committee on Oversight and Government Reform.

A source indicated to The Post that Pettitte verified a story McNamee told in his deposition about training at Clemens' home in 2002 with both Clemens and Pettitte. McNamee said that during a break, Pettitte said to him something like, "How come you don't give me the same stuff you give Roger?" indicating Clemens told Pettitte about his human growth hormone use.

Newsday reported that Clemens said in his affidavit that he spoke with Pettitte about medications, but not steroids or HGH.

One of Pettitte's lawyers declined comment when reached last night.

Rep. Henry Waxman (D-Calif.), chairman of the committee, and Davis (R-Va.) put out a joint statement announcing the removal of the three witnesses.

"Mr. Knoblauch and Mr. Pettitte answered all the Committee's questions and their testimony at the hearing is not needed," the statement read. "Mr. Clemens and Mr. McNamee have also cooperated with the Committee in its investigation."

Pettitte gave a deposition to the committee under oath on Feb. 4 that lasted for two and a half hours.

Clemens' lawyers said their client will stick to his denial that he ever used steroids or HGH.

"I think Andy Pettitte should do whatever is in Andy's best interest and whatever he thinks is best," said Lanny Breuer, one of Clemens' lawyers. "Roger Clemens is going to testify on Wednesday. He'll answer everything truthfully and forthrightly as he's done since the very beginning."

The committee can use Pettitte's deposition during the hearing and ask Clemens or McNamee about anything in Pettitte's testimony. It also will be part of the public record of the hearing.

Sparing him a trip to Capitol Hill appears to be a sign committee members believe Pettitte cooperated fully with their investigation, and that they do not need any more testimony from him. A source also said Pettitte was not a great witness in that his answers sometimes contradicted each other, and there was some fear of putting him in front of the committee with a national television audience watching.
