Do you think Tony was set up by Omar with the Columbians? I know Omar didn't want to go there himself and he wanted Tony to go instead of him, but do you think Omar had any idea of what was going to happen and tried to get Tony "whacked?"

Omar hated Tony with a passion, i think that he planned on sending tony and his boys to hectors with the intention of him not coming back.

He saw Tony as a minor 'dishwasher' and probably saw this as an opportunity to get rid of someone who dared to disrespect him.

I think that you bring a good point, however I don't know how passionate Omar was then b/c he just met Tony. If it happened later on in the film, sure. But this was their first time meeting I think.

Yer ur right but think about how much of a hot head omar was, even during the Sosa meeting he was getting pissed, and the amount of cocaine he was stuffing up his nose was sure to have an affect on his judgement making him more paranoid and such, just look at how Tony ended up at the end.

Very true. Another good point. So you believe Omar set Tony up?

I dont believe Omar set him up with the intention of getting tony killed. But if tony did die he wouldn't of cared in the slightest.
Anyway i think omar got what was coming to him.

On that topic, does anyone know whether or not sosa was bullshitin bout omar being a rat?

Personally, i think he was lying just to scare tony into agreeing the deal.

On the first subject, I think that Omar sent Tony in, not neccessarly to be set up, but knowing full well how dangerous this Columbian was and not really caring if Tony would have gotten wacked. As for Sosa's guy recognizing Omar to be a stoolie, I never bought that. I think that Sosa saw a hunger in Tony, saw that Tony was very aggressive and could go places, so Sosa took full advantage of the situation that developed realizing that Tony had no love for Omar, and that he, Sosa, could build a strong alliance with this young Cuban who was very likely to take things over. I think that Sosa saw all these qualities in Tony, and played the situation to his advantage.

Definitively set-up. Omar is ready to bust a cap in Tony's ass when his friend (Edwardo I think?) mumbles something to him, and consequently offers Tony an offer that is a great deal more "significant" than the original. A bit too big for Tony's britches, considering all he did was whack Rebenga. Omar knew at the very least Hector was fucked up, and he wanted to get even with the "dishwasher." That's the way I always thought of it.
