I have to tell you that I am not that big on deli. I do love the rye bread, I adore matzoh ball soup, but I don't like pastrami, corned beef, tongue or any of those. I respectfully disagree. The first time I had Jewish deli was 3 years ago when we went to that Harold's, I loved it. I would like to go again someday.

Never had tongue (as food anyway) but there is so much more to the deli than your pastrami and corned beef, as much as I LOVE these foods, even better is the smoked fish, the whiting, sturgeon, kippered herring, there is a famous place in NYC in soho that specialize in these smoked fish... (check colameco.com, it was on his PBS show). A place in town is kosher, and they won't even let you buy milk in the same purchase of the other products like cabbage rolls, potato pancakes, pickles, bagels, slaw, they have so many items and its good to know places like this still exists... Ahh, i can see myself now with a frozen bottle of stoli and a smoked fish platter from kosherkornernj.com -- last St. Patrick's day the town's oldest irish restaurant/tavern was not placing "to go orders" so i went to Kosher Korner for my corned beef! This year, I plan to make the feast on my own, Shop-Rite has a mega-sale, and if you get coupons its like $1/lb and free potatoes... check it out, the only thing I need to do to complete it is stock up on the Guiness!!

TB, have you ever tried to get your deli Fed Ex'd? I only ask because I have neighbors in Florida who swear by Barney Greengrass's overnight service. That's the one on 86th and Amsterdam. When I would cover Riverside (Amsterdam and 76th), that was my favorite breakfast spot. Their scrambled eggs with lox and onions? Holy crap!

PB, I've checked several NY delis and specialty stores, but the cost gets prohibitive for air freight. For example, each pound of corned beef (or pastrami, or tongue) from Katz's exceeds $25 when shipping and packing are added. And the possible risk of spoilage due to mishandling or delay isn't a trivial factor. Anoother: can't get a decent bialy here. I checked Kossar's, on the lower east side. Bialys are about 50 cents--but with shipping, 3 dozen go for close to $100.

I bet he appreciated it, SB. Or, as Katz's used to say, "Send A Salami to your Boy in the Army." The Navy Gets the Gravy but the army gets the beans beans beans beans beans
He - (Simón Bolívar) - was shaken by the overwhelming revelation that the headlong race between his misfortunes and his dreams was at that moment reaching the finishing line. The rest was darkness. "Damn it," He sighed. "How will I ever get out of this labyrinth!" So what’s the labyrinth? That’s the mystery isn’t it? Is the labyrinth living or dying? Which is he trying to escape - the world, or, the end of it?

I'm coming Geoffy. Maybe Don T will drive across the state of Florida to meet us.
The Rascal House in Sunny Isles is still open, so let's go. No more Rascal House on Collins. It's GONE!! I couldn't believe it! It's some stupid gourmet market/cafe (translate "gourmet" for "overpriced"). I know. We spoke about this, Babe. However, when I made that post over a year ago, they were still open. On their last legs, but still open.

Never ate at MOTT STREET, although my neighbor in Delray raves about it. I've eaten in just about every "Ale House" in Florida. My favorite is the one in Boynton Beach. They have the BEST spinach-artichoke dip ever. I think it's the best chain restaurant around (although the chain is limited to Florida).

Will do. The best part about the Ale Houses are the drink specials. They're unbelievable. The one is Boca is on Glades Road. I had to leave my car there once! True story.
