Three weeks on the list, now #11.

As a frame of reference, any book that eventually reaches the top two or three generally does so within the first two or three weeks of publication.

If this is as high as it gets, and it doesn't stay on the list very long, I think that from the POV of sales it will be considered a flop.

As far as it's literary value goes, I think we already know it's a flop.

I'm not even paying attention to this thread. The title of it is poorly written (ie. "Times" should be in italics).

I just checked Amazon. Unless I scrolled too quickly, then this has dropped out of the top 100 within 6 weeks. Assuming that all the persons who wanted to give this as a stocking stuffer have done so, then the first wave of sales has bottomed out. His promotional tour may pick up sales a bit, but I think that those folks who are true GF fans have already pronounced judgement.

Man - this is starting to become morbid!

I hope they aren't even considering making a movie of this book. You would think the drop in sales would be an indication that it wouldn't go over.

i guess this means the end of a possible godfather four, i doubt paramount would want to risk a movie that will flop. but there is still the video game. i was reading the paper the other day and it said that brando aloud them to use his voice for the game. so i assume it will be based on the first movie.

A possible GF 4 doesn't have to be based on this book, although it would have been convenient for Paramount if the book was a hit.

Imagine if Coppola decides to do a GF 4 and writes the screenplay, and another studio decides to film the Winegardner novel.

What a fine mess that would be.

If Coppola decides to do another GF, we must admit, our hopes would be high.

Plus, there probably wouldn't be any one group of people evaluating, inspecting and judging it with a fine tooth comb more than this BB group. :p

But if the time comes that we hear any rumor that this latest book will be a movie, I agree, a disaster in the making.

As of Dec. 19 it is now at #54

I really was hoping we'd all like it.

GFR - unless I really scrolled too quickly, this is no longer in the Amazon Top 100.

Beauty is in the eye of the beholder, but there is such a thing as consensus. At first, I felt bad because I found the book a tough read. However, I gained confidence in my instincts as the 'family' started reading it. While we all have our opinions, but the truth is that for those who love the original works, this book is a disappointment. For all the time that I have been on this board (yeah, I know that I do not post too often...) I cannot recall Turnbull or SC ripping something that badly. That is to suggest that if you tick them off to that extent, it must be pretty bad.

At the risk of getting my wrist slapped by our Don, is even worth it to have a section for GFR? If this turned out to be a great classic, I would say -YES, but this thing is tanking. Winegardner is touring the country to promote the book and signing copies as he passes by book stores, but the reality is - this is not a good book. To believe otherwise suggests that one is suffering from CAI - Cranial Anal Insertion (i.e., deep denial).

Yes it worth having GFR section here. It's information, and opinions. I read only excerpts and spoilers here, and I already have much to say to that spoilt irish brat Winegardner!
If not this section, everyone who comes to the boards for advise will post endless questions "Is it worth buying?" In the 1 section, we shall be unable to stand it, I think. Now they may just read what is written by true fans who read the book already, and get enough to decide without further questioning never to spend their honestly earned money on it. I decided not to buy it. This section saved me something about $40 I believe, with shipment.
