He was just on the Today Show, and told Matt Lauer he's already planning a sequel to "The Godfather Returns"
You'd figure he'd at least wait until he sees how this one sells. If it's a flop, I doubt if he'll be writing any sequels.
I imagine he's sold the movie rights already, so if this book sells I guess we'll be seeing another Godfather film one way or another.

PLaw, did he give any more info on the plot of the book? From the link I posted from Amazon the details show the book begins after the killing of the five families. It didn't mention the "Vincent" storyline. Did Winegardner? As far as a second book, I think it's a little premature to assume this will be a huge success (although I hope it is), to be planning another. IMHO the title of this book is not very original and like SC I hope it doesn't turn into a joke. Well, let's wait and see. SC, since you have it, just drop a quick line here after the first few chapters, and give us a hint if it is good. TIS

I'm sure the book will be a moderate to big hit. Not in the Da Vinci Code realm, but it should be on the best-seller list for a few weeks.
As for a sequel, I don't see where you could go after this, unless he's going to pick up the time lapse between part II and III, which could work, but the problem I have with stuff like this is making these events that take place in between movies too important.
I like to think that the movies are cannon and these books are filler or expanded universe stuff, as they say in the Star Wars lingo. If this big plot happened between part II and III in the Corleone universe, I would think that Puzo and Coppola would have included it in the movie.
But then again, I enjoy anything Godfather, so let me have it.

I agree. I'm surprised, though, that we haven't heard anything about movie rights for this one. Presumably, they're sold already. the question is, I guess, will the book be a big enough success to warrant a movie?
