Well If they made GF I think they should go back in time and we should a young Michael,Fredo, and Sonny and so on. But who would you choose for those actors.
Michael-Michael Imperioli
Sonny- James Franco
Fredo- Edward Norton

Leave the gun and take the canoli.

they just cant do this, even though those actors look somewhat like their characters, its not Al Pacino, its not John Cazale, its not James Caan.I rather them do parts from after Mary died of Michael and after Michael died.Andy Garcia may be a great asset to the movie with the right acting.I think that part 3's problem was action, there wasnt enough violence.Vincent didnt agree with Michaels ways, he wanted it to be like the old days.

Tom I agree with half of what you said. I have serious doubts that anyone will be able to take the place of the original actors and make it believable. However, Vito and Michael are dead, so is the story. The Trilogy has always been about the father and the son, and seeing how they are both 6 feet under, there is no more story to tell. If there are no actors to fill the roles, and no continuing story to tell, the logical thing would be to not make a Part 4.

Vito's been dead since 1954 or 55. Was there any point in making GF II?

P.S. Michael Corleone dies in 1997.

Yes.Because FFC wanted to show the viewers the rise and fall of Michael.

Uh, well, Vincent is primarily FFC's creation, maybe there is more to be told with his story.

Michael died in 1997, we know from the GF DVD set bonus materials. So he lived 17 more years after Mary's murder, certainly something happened in that time period.

Plus, you have Sonny's two legitimate sons, Connie's two sons, and Anthony who might attempt to get involved with the business.

There is plenty of material which could serve as the basis of a GF IV storyline. It might suck but it might be good. It's pretty stupid to have a closed mind and just decide ahead of time to hate it.

If that reasoning had been in force, there never would have been a GF II, because after all, the Godfather was about Vito, and Vito was dead.

But the mafia is dead, plus, Vincent adopted Michaels ways of staying clean so there wouldnt be any action.

actually tom, there is no real way of knowing what vincent did after mary's death. i don't think he would adopt mike's way of going clean at all. i believe he became an agrier person then he already was.

Lets get off this Imperioli bandwagon. The only thing that makes him look somewhat like Pacino is his hair. Other than that, they really dont have much in common. Imperioli isnt that good-looking of a man. Franco is a decent choice but Edward Norton has to be the worst of them all. There is no resemblance at all to John Cazale there.

Well yeah, besides their hair, eyes, nose, eyebrows, general facial structure, some vocal mannerisms, body build, etc.. hardly anything at all.

You're not going to get somebody who looks *exactly* like Al Pacino -- FFC didnt' worry that Robert DeNiro didn't look *exactly* like a younger Marlon Brando. There was a general resemblance, enough so that you could accept the idea that this was Vito at a younger age.

The main thing was, DeNiro could *play the character.* That's all you need for casting requirements.

I think a key is finding people who are already somewhat known, so they have a persona that might fit the character, but are not considered "superstars" so their own public image would overshadow the character altogether.

Therefore, no Tom Cruise playing Michael Corleone. No Madonna playing Kay Adams.

Franco seems too thin and rangy in my estimation for Sonny. You need someone who looks like a street brawler, ready to throw down at the slightest provocation.

Edward Norton might make a good Fredo. He's got the semi-nerd look that Fredo needs. Jude Law might be a possibility too. But since Fredo is not going to be a pivotal character, you probably will end up with somebody lesser-known to play the role.

[/quote]Do you really want the nerdy kid who got shot by Joe Pesci in Goodfellas to play Michael? Come on. Are you serious about the similarites??? They dont have any similar facial characteristics. Imperioli is not a good-looking man, Pacino was. That's a huge difference. You cant compare Brando and DeNiro to this because Brando was suppose to look a older than DeNiro whereas this Michael will only be a few years younger when comparing it to the start of GFI.

And I still dont understand how you guys all want Ed Norton for Fredo. Cazale at least looked Italian. Noone will believe Norton as Italian. And Jude Law??? That has to be the funniest thing I've heard. He's the biggest hearthrob out there. There is no way he is going to pass as the weak Fredo.

Cazale had that huge forehead that made him look so unique. Edward Norton does not have that and there arent many people that do. Plus he just doesnt look Italian. These guys have to at least look Italian. I dont want Imperioli as Michael but he definitely looks more like Michael than Norton looks like Cazale.

well that was an intelligent response.

I know Norton can act, but I just don't see him as Fredo, even if they use a lot of makeup. He just doesnt look Italian. They can at least find someone that can look Italian. James Caan wasnt Italian but he at least looked it.

Nortan looks Itailan, just add a New York accent and some makeup to make him look more pale and die his hair black. He has his nose so Im sure he can do something with the hairline.

I give you all that, but the thing that scares me about him playing Michael is the personality. I don't see him as a guy who can realistically bring across Pacino's attitude in the movie.

I think he is more of the hothead-Sonny type (no not to be sonny) I just can't see him being cool and calm all the time and pulling it off.

Well, sometimes people surprise you. Who'da thunk that Robin Williams or Bill Murray could ever do serious roles, but they have done OK with a few of them.

That way mainly due to the fact that his hair was receeding. I dont know of many people who go through thier whole lives with thier forehead starting above thier ears. However I do agree with you. Norton and Law are OUT! I say we (haha as if) stick with the orignal casting way and go for an unknown

What about Mark Ruffalo as Michael?

I watched him in "In the cut" (quite a disappointing movie, indeed) and seemed quite good.

He's almost 40, I dont think he could pass a high school/ college aged Michael.

Call me crazy, but I saw a commercail for the Elf DVD and it showed a clip from an extra, and (going by looks) Will Ferrel looks a hell of a lot like a young Sonny. Granted, Ive never seen do anything that isnt aimed at the 12-17 year old audence, so who knows if he can really act, but just a suggestion.

EDIT-fix typos.

Will Ferrell is in his mid-30s and is considerably taller than Caan, I believe. You can't have Sonny being 35 years old and 6-4.

^^^^ True, he is a lot taller, however he looks young, and with the use of makeup.....who knows. It was only a suggestion. I dont particularly like it, but we've been a little short on Sonny castings

I just saw the movie 25th Hour the other day, and I have to say I absolutely DO buy Edward Norton as a possible Fredo. Norton in Primal Fear, also, has that kind of squirrelly mannerisms that are very characteristic of Fredo.

I don't know what it was, but throughout the movie 25th Hour, Norton's look was very reminiscent of Fredo. I'm sure with a good hair dye/grooming job, he would have a good resemblance to Cazale.

Remember in all this talk about casting ideas: it's not neccesary that a casting choice has to be a dead ringer for the character. It just has to be close enough that it doesn't visually throw you off - close enough that you can believe that this guy is Fredo, Michael, Sonny, Vito, etc.

If anyone's got any BETTER ideas, fine, but right now, Norton is the one actor I can think of who could fill the bill for Fredo.

Sorry Enzo, Norton cant be Fredo, no way. If GF4 is a reality, for the most part, unknowens have to be cast.
BTW_-The Norton pic isnt showing up.

Uh, well, there's this guy named Joe Schmo who nobody has ever heard of, he would be perfect for Vito... This other guy, Joe Dokes, I think he would make a great Fredo... Then of course there's John Doe, he could play Sonny...
