The fact that his own brother was one of the shooters that murdered him tells you that Mario DeStefano knew his brother was himself a homicidal psychopath who had it comin'. The bosses were displeased with his latest courtroom antics and bizarre behavior especially then unnecessary publicity it brought. It was time and Mad Sam had to go

Some people will say other wise about being made,But i agree with you.

I also agree with southend's comments but i think that Sam was a made man...

From now on, nothing goes down unless I'm involved. No blackjack no dope deals, no nothing. A nickel bag gets sold in the park, I want in. You guys got fat while everybody starved on the street. Now it's my turn.

Do we have solid evidence on whether Mad Sam was made? I've read both versions.

First of all, we have to keep in mind that the outfit did not make people the way the NY Mafia, for example, did. So the line between a "made guy" and an "associate" with the outfit is blur, to say the least. But DeStefano was considered "made" in the 1960s. His name appears on list of outfit made guys, compiled by the FBI.

I agree, Hairy, about the lines being blurred with the Chicago Outfit. I also read that Spilotro was a member of Mad Sam's crew. Has that been confirmed?

Spilotro belonged to Joey Lombardo's Grand Ave crew after that.
