A. Vincent "The Chin" Gigante. Luckily for Costello, Gigante's aim was no better than his later act of dementia.

Q. Shot to death in a drugstore phonebooth in 1932, this mob killer was supposed to have killed Lucky Luciano on "The Night of Sicilian Vespers".

Wasn't there something with Joe where he arranged to get himself arrested because he thought there was a contract out on him?

Or is the incident I'm thinking of the answer to your question.

Following the famous Mob convention in Atlantic City in 1929, Al Capone decided it would be healthy for him to take a powder for a while. He arranged to be arrested in Philadelphia for carrying a concealed weapon. He served a year in a Pa. prison while things settled down.
Bonanno claimed that he was kidnapped by his cousin, Stefano Magaddino, because he refused a Commission invitation to explain his role in a plot against Carlo Gambino and Tommy Lucchese. Others believe he faked the kidnapping so he could avoid several federal indictments against him. What you're probably thinking of: he came out of hiding by suddenly appearing before a federal judge in NYC, saying: "My name is Joseph Bonanno. I understand you want to ask me some questions." By that time, the disloyal elements in his family were in chaos.

New question: What was mobster Joe Adonis's real name?

A. July 31, 1930.

Q. February 14th holds a special place in Mob folklore. In 1929 it was made famous for the St. Valentine's Day Massacre. In 1936, one of the shooters of "the Massacre", "Machine Gun" Jack McGurn was shot dead. What mob boss died (in prison) on that date in 1969?

Vito Genovese. (BTW: McGurn wasn't one of the actual Massacre shooters--that's why he had the "blond alibi.")
