Hell no. Regardless of his teen-idolness, he's been pretty damn awful since Gilbert Grape / Basketball Diaries (when he was great) 'til The Aviator, where he was okay. De Niro?? Fuck no! :p
I studied Italian for 2 semesters. Not once was a "C" pronounced as a "G", and never was a trailing "I" ignored! And I'm from Jersey! lol Whaddaya want me to do? Whack a guy? Off a guy? Whack off a guy? --Peter Griffin My DVDs | Facebook | Godfather Filming Locations

I always wondered why people like him. He is a bad actor IMO, he has two face expressions, equally weird, for all roles. Good roles will not improve such acting. I found him terrible in GONY, and boring in Titanic. When he had some boyish charm teenage girls might adore him because of wide and professional publicity, but now, as he gets obviously uglier, he must prove something with his acting. As now, he proves to be nothing at all. I don't think that good actors were not good actors when they had no good roles. They were always talented, before and after.

NO-ONE CAN EVER REPLACE ROBERT DE NIRO.
When some one needs to be whacked you call Don Leporleone, When some one needs to be paid off you call Don Leporeloene, When some one needs protection you call Don Leporeleone.... But when you buy canolis from the bakery you don't share them with Don Leporeleone, what have I ever done to make you treat me so disrespectfully

OMG, POOR LEO!!!!!!!!!!!!!!  You are treating him awfully!!! WHY ON THE EARTH????? I'd not dare telling he's the new DeNiro, but he definitety is NOT as rubbish as you say!! He was EXCELLENT in both "This boy's life" and "What's Eating Gilbert Grape". He was great in "Marvin's room", "Catch me if you can" and "Gangs of New York". Or don't you forgive him for becoming a star at such a young age with the planetar hit of Titanic? It was not Leo's fault, after all. The audience decided it. :p :p Lavinia, Leonardo DiCaprio's fan. :p

I'm the wrong one to try to answer this. Back in the early 70's when I first saw "The Lords of Flatbush", I predicted that Perry King would soon become a household name, since he was the best actor out of that movie. Another one of the cast soon took that honor - someone named Stallone. Then, in the early 80's there were two young actors that had similar backgrounds and starred in similar roles. Of the two, I predicted Steve Guttenberg would be a big star, but that honor went to Tom Hanks. I can't see anyone surpassing DeNiro, but who knows?

I gotta say DiCaprio is a lot better of an actor than I would have pegged him for, but the next DeNiro he is not. Yes, he was good in Gilbert Grape, and Catch Me, and GoNY, but I think others could have done a better job, especially in GoNY. Maybe a Jason Patrick or a Colin Ferrel... I dunno, but DiCaprio as a tough guy? Never.

DiCaprio is NOT the next DeNiro...hes just the next DiCaprio. Well said. I think Leo is a terrific actor, but he really doesn't remind me of DeNiro in any way.

How would you like to have a failure like that one!
