I noticed that while in The Godfather, there were no real strong female characters (the females seemed only to exist through the males, ex: Connie and Carlo, Kay and Michael), in The Last Don and Omerta females seemed to take on a role of their own and could be as ruthless as the males, for example Athena asking for her husband to be killed and one other that escapes my mind at the moment.
Will we see a strong female character in The Family? What will Lucrezia be like?

(I'm sorry if this is redundant or a non-serious question. I really don't know much about the book.)

Hi Liz,
Good question! And proof that I had only limited influence over the characters Mario wrote about...until the Borgias because that one we worked on for years. That one we played with together. I moaned and groaned about the wimpy female characters in the other books, but Mario said that I was underestimating the power of beauty over men.... so...we got Athena. Lucrezia on the other hand was no more a pawn of the patriarchy than was her brother Cesare. And their father (the Pope) had many of the same endearing qualities as "The Godfather." I think you'll like the women in this book! Some are terrifying!!!
