Vito=Don Clericuzio (Shame on me for forgetting the name)
Sonny=Silvio
Michael=(Loosely) Pippi DeLena, more likely Cross
Vincent=(Loosely) Dante
Fredo=Petie or Vincent( I forgot which one)
Hagen=Giorgio
Pentangelli=Ballazzo
Luca Brasi=Lia Vazzi
Kay Adams= (Loosely) Athena
Tattaglia/Barzini/Cuneo/Stracci/Greene=(loosely) Santadios
Roth/Klingman=(Loosely)Gronevelt
Young Mary=Bethany (handicapped/Autistic)
Connie=Rosemarie
Carlo=Jimmy Santadio
McCluskey=Losey

Also Dante vs. Cross could be like Vincent vs. Anthony

Any more?

Anybody wanna get Omerta/Sicilian/Family likenesses up here as well?

I agree with some of your choices although i disagree on afew
such as ....
Roth/ Gronevelt
no way Roth was more devious and thought he would live for ever to quote Micheal Corleone where as Gronevelt knew that death was nearly upon him and was ready for it gronevelt left his shares in the Xandu to cross where as Roth would never do anything like that.

*Carlo/Jimmy
Jimmy was not involved in the hit on Silvio it was just Jimmys brothers
where as Carlo was in on the hit on sonny
Jimmy seemed more honourable even at the end he went outside rather than be killed infront of his new wife Rosemarie.

*Sonny/Silvio????????????????????????????????????
is my biggest concern Silvio was a soft boy never intrested in the family buisness he wasn't part of it where as Sonny was tough and was a hothead and wanted to be part of the business

Althoug hi must admit
bits of Mcluskey are very obvious in Jim Losey

As for Roth/GRONEVELT I THINK i put LOOSELY. They were both old , never mind.

CARLO/JIMMY-Killed by their wives brother/brother-in-law.

SILVIO/SONNY
First son. Killed in the war. Killed at Causeway.

DOMENICO Clericuzio, I remembered!

What do the other Last Don fans think?

Speking of Gronevelt, I was looking through Fools Die. Alexander Gronevelt and the Xanadu Hotel are in that too. Is Domencio Clericuzio mentioned in that book?

Omerta mentions the Corleones and the Clericuzios.

The four Puzos I've read were his mafia series.

Godfather, Sicilian, Last DOn, and I'm reading Omerta now.

I don't care TOO much for the Hollywood/Ernest Vail/And others from Last Don. Forget the names. Skippy Deere, Bantz, the lawyer lady etc.

I LOVED the Fontane/Nino/Lucy/Segal/Fredo/Moe Greene/Deanna parts of the Godfather.

Is there TOO much Holywood, media, celeebrity etc.? for my liking?

ANY reference to the Mafia?

The last Don was a good film and I dug the old Hollywood Bigwig getting her to take her clothes off one last time before he kicked the bucket. Now that would be me when I get old and am on my last hours...oh and a quick prayer just in case!

I loved the The Last Don and took a chance on watching the mini-series and was surprised that I liked it, too.

I loved the casting of Cross and Dante, hated Darryl Hannah as Athena.

Just when I get out, they pull me back in.

Great observation Ricardo. I had the same thought as regards to comparisons. The book was excellent. Lots of memorable characters and of course M. Puzo's style of story telling is flawless. Very detailed and interesting as ususal. Just finished reading the book yesterday and was going to ask about these comparisons. Were they on purpose?

Fredo = Vincent, hehehe Petie did more action and was more vocal. I'd like to add the senator (forgot his name) and Geary. Pippi had the planning tactics of Michael (courage of Neri) and Cross his charm and being cool in streneous situations. Also, Dante a cross between Sonny and the attitude of Sally (turning against the family/in his case a relative). I haven't seen the film version of The Last Don. Its one of my to do list someday.

Hi,
The Godfather wins hands down. Last Don was good but is no Godfather. Godfather is a classic.

Clericuzio's were said to be more savage, but the Corleones are smarter

Hi,
Danny Aiello was outstanding as Clericuzio. Danny Aiello IMHO is the most under-rated actors of our time.

Just saw the film and I thought he did a great job. So did the guy who protrayed Dante. Wish a better director directed it.

At first... I think that this book absolutely sucked... the first 1/4th of it about...

It just seemed like a photocopy of The Godfather with a couple of name changes... I don't care for the blatant sex left and right, Hollywood, or any of that stuff...

But man, now that I'm into the book a bit more... I'd have to say that it kicks A LOT of ass...

I haven't been able to read about the Santadio's yet... HOWEVER... I'm at the part where Pippi gets shot then he says... "Fucking Santadio" and dies...

I'm really hyped up for the rest!

I read and loved 'The Last Don' I have never seen the mini-series? or film!! I also read 'omerta' which was ok but not in the same category as The Godfather and not as good as 'last Don'
I too have noticed parallels in the novels tho. I suppose this is going to happen as you deal with a similar subject??
My next read is 'The Sicillian' I'll report back :p
Ricardo I loved and agreed with your criss/cross casting, nice one

I assure you that the book "The Last Don" was way better than the film. Just watch the movie then you would know the difference. I liked the guy who portrayed Dante and Skannet (really scary freaks lol).

Hello.. I just found this board today, and just thought I'd let you know there's at least one more Last Don fan out there!

Just finished reading the novel the other day and loved it (needless to say). I have yet to watch the film version or miniseries or whatever is out there.

Next Puzo novel I read will be either The Sicilian or Omerta, as I currently have both. Which is the better read? (opinions?)
