Just finished reading The Scillian. Though I have to say I have mixed feelings about the book. I found it to be a wonderful novel, like any other Mario Puzo novel it too was filled with wonderful words that takes the breath away. However the novel itself saddened me with the death of Turi, and Don Corelone's refusal to publish 'The Testament.' I could see his reasoning with not publishing it, but still the real bad guys should have gotten what they deserved.

After watching The GodFather a Novel For Television, Im gonna re read The GodFather, just to see how the added scenes match up with the original novel.

Until then

I too loved 'The Sicilian' for its wonderfully romanticised view of life in Sicily. Turi was as strong and loveable a character as Don Vito himself. I felt that the ending changed my view of Don Corleone slightly for the worse. This is the novels onyl let down. Turi was destined to die, however unfortunate.
I rate the book as being the equal of 'The Godfather' because of its sense of tradition and its beautiful description.

I too enjoyed The Sicilian, yet, if I had to rate against the Godfather, it would not compare. I enjoyed the fact that the two intertwine slightly and how all the characters, Turi, Aspanu, all of them, are detailed as much as need be. Great novel.

I like the godfather better, but the sicilian is up there with the best of them
