As much as i don't post on here, i read everyday...and i had been praying for a quick recovery.

It's sad to hear of this great loss, as he was always one of my favourites on here. And i'll light a candle for him this sunday after mass.

Selfish? Of course, we all are when it comes to losing someone that we care for. Do we have the right to be selfish? Absolutely, we're only human.

But we must remember that while Paul has died in the physical being, his spirit is alive more than ever and he will always live on in our hearts because of the great memories that many of us have of him.

Happy memories? Well, there was the Saturday last year when Mr. Babe and I were meeting the gang at the Doubletree.

Whenever I think of New York I'll always have fond memories of Paul. I've been there a total of 4 times in the past 3 years or so, and each time I've either had dinner with Paul or spend a day with him, just showing me the sights. He and New York go together like peanut butter and jelly.

but the memory of when we first hit it off as friends will always remain in my mind.
These types of fond memories and the exchanges that we have made here and will continue to make here and within ourselves, about our funny experiences, happy times, and great memories that we've all had with Paul is what makes him very alive and well in our hearts and in our minds.

I like to think of the physical death of someone that we love as a temporary sepration, and that the person has just reached a destination that we all eventually will reach, where someday we will catch up with them so that we can be together again.

We can take comfort in knowing that while we will eventually meet up with Paul someday, it are those great memories that keep him alive and well in our hearts which helps us along in our journey to be with him again.

I have two saves messages from Paul on my cell phone as well. I hope they don't accidentally go away. I just play them over sometimes, just to hear his voice. I can't delete his number from my cell phone either. That makes it too final for me.

I was adding my daughter's new cell number to my cell and also saw PLaw's number. I too, couldn't erase it.

Before the Philly meet, we were PMing back and forth about the possibility of him joining Vitelli and I on a bus ride to NYC from Philly. I e-mailed a general link I found with info/prices. He e-mailed me back and told me it was a Chinese (and I assume Chinese speaking) bus. :p I don't know exactly how he knew but was glad he told me. Later on he pm'd me again ending by laughing and saying, "just don't take the Chinese bus". Ha ha.."

I still didn't have the guts to read what you guys are posting here. my grandfather just died yesterday (he's been very ill for a long time so at least I was prepated) so I think I'll always remember Plaw along with my grandpa. I bet they met at Heaven's Gate and talked about me.

So sorry for you loss TM. I'm sure if Plaw and your grandfather met at Heaven's gates the first words out of Plaw's mouth would have been...

Last half was a fluke.

From the thread about Plaw being in the hospital on, I knew this was going to happen somewhere in the future.
But so soon...

The first day I heard the news I've been thinking about his passing all day ... and the following days.

Although I didn't had contact with him in real-life like some hear had, I did had PM's with him though. And of course, I always enjoyed all of his posts, every single one of them.

It won't be the same without my favorite windbag of these boards...

Two particular 'anecdote' I have about him (this probably doesn't mean something to anyone but I'd like to share it anyway.

When I first joined and looked in the political discussions, I was immediately displeased to see that most debaters seemed to be rightwing. Suddenly I noticed this bigshot poster named Plawrence, and I hoped at least he would be leftwing. Then I saw DC saying something about Plaw ranting on and on over civil rights, but I percepted it with irony, as such thinking Plaw had to be the most right wing guy imaginable.

Boy, was I wrong.

Another thing about him, his retirement for political discussions (which didn't last long) was the reason for me to sometimes give my views in debates. I learned a lot from it, and in a way it is thanks to him.

I could write so much more about all his qualities, but I prefer not to, I couldn't top the nice words which are already in this thread.

Only this: Thanks Plaw, for the good moments on the BB your posts brought to me.

RIP Statman.

I can also see Plaw and your grandfather meeting up in heaven...

I heard this song today driving back from my in-law's house today. Reminded me of Paul and my hubby's grandma.

When I get where I'm going By: Braid Paisley

When I get where I'm going
On the far side of the sky
The first thing that I'm gonna do
Is spread my wings and fly

I'm gonna land beside a lion
And run my fingers through his mane
Or I might find out what it's like
To ride a drop of rain

(Chorus:)
Yeah when I get where I'm going
There'll be only happy tears
I will shed the sins and struggles
I have carried all these years
And I'll leave my heart wide open
I will love and have no fear
Yeah when I get where I'm going
Don't cry for me down here

I'm gonna walk with my grand daddy
And he'll match me step for step
And I'll tell him how I missed him
Every minute since he left
Then I'll hug his neck

(Chorus)

So much pain and so much darkness
In this world we stumble through
All these questions I can't answer
So much work to do

But when I get where I'm going
And I see my maker's face
I'll stand forever in the light
Of his amazing grace
Yeah when I get where I'm going
There'll be only happy tears
Hallelujah
I will love and have no fear
When I get where I'm going
Yeah when I get where I'm going
Don't cry for me down here.

That Brad Paisely song gets you right in the heartstrings, Mig. Very sad. We can't think of any song about death without bringing out the best, Garth Brook's, "The Dance".

Looking back on the memory of
The Dance we shared 'neath the stars above
For a moment all the world was right
How was I to know that you'd ever say good-bye

{chorus}:

And now I'm glad I didn't know
The way it all would end
The way it all would go
Our lives are better left to chance
I could have missed the pain
But I'd of had to miss the dance

Holding you I held everything
For a moment wasn't I a king
If I'd known how the king would fall
Well then who's to say I might have changed it all

{repeat chorus}:

And now I'm glad I didn't know
The way it all would end
The way it all would go
Our lives are better left to chance
I could have missed the pain
But I'd of had to miss the dance

I forgot about "The Dance" Beth. After I heard that song by Brad Paisley I'm not sure why but I felt not as sad as I was feeling.

thanks for the kind words, girls

my grandpa definitely didn't know anything about baseball so he couldn't argue if it was a fluke or not. but I wish Plaw could tell him how lazy and/or forgetful I was so it could be an excuse for not visiting as often as I could.

Damn it!!! I just got into this forum and read this!
Well, maybe I am a member regarded as a person that the people don´t like very much and that´s why I don´t know if I am the right one to write here...I made up my mind and I decided to do it...

We rarely talked each other with Plaw, and at least, I felt good with him, I don´t know what he thought about me, but I think he was..he is for me...a great man...I was out of this forum for so long because I had to study, I didn´t even know what happened with Plaw...If I did, I would have said to him "Hey, nice to see you plaw!"
I am unable to do it now...

I would like to ask, Don Cardi, SC, JGeoff, Turnbull or whoever in contact in person with Plaw`s family to send my regards...

That is the only thing I can do...

I remember once plaw posted a poem about other members. I'm not able to find it. Does anyone know the link for that poem? It would be nice if we had a page here, with all his poems/writings and their thread references, you know a memorial page on GBB.

This one?

Quote:
Our leader is J-G
We love him the most
It’s a good thing there’s sports threads
Or he’d never post

As JG’s main advisor
SC’s smart as a fox
Got him annoyed?
You’ll go play in his sandbox

Don Cardi’s a nice guy
So this idea’s free:
Please write this down:
It’s spelled “DEFINITELY”

Turnbull has knowledge
No post written in haste
But there is no rush
It’s all copy and paste

Is Patrick a Commie?
I’m not really sure
But he’ll start to make sense
When he starts to mature

Letizia’s a young one
And she’s sure quite a pearl
Every BB should have one:
Their own “Valley Girl”

And then there’s Vercetti
We remember posts past
How he owns a pizzeria
And the veins in his ass

Some like to go hunting
And some like to fish
DMC has a hobby
And her name is Trish

Speaking of hobbies
I will note with a frown
The hobby of Apple:
Putting new members down

I call her “Lefty”
Not because of her coast
It’s Saladbar's politics
She’s left wing the most

fathersson’s here quite rarely
When he is, there are thrills
When things start to get tough, though
He heads for the hills

The Babe who’s Sicilian
When she disagrees
Has a nice one word comment
She’ll just say “Puh-leeze”

Just Lou is a nice guy
I’m sure he’ll go far
But he isn’t quite normal
He’s in love with a car

Double J has opinions
And he loves to fight
How can someone be so “wrong”
When so far to the “right”?

Don Smitty has passion
His views are no fluke
Some will drop you a Christmas card
He’ll drop you a nuke

TIS is quite careful
Won’t post ‘til she thinks
Is that process helped
By consuming blue drinks?

Mignon is a redneck
Who started a flap
It’s the Bible her faith’s in
Not that “evolution crap”

He won’t post his picture
So we can’t see his puss
For that reason alone
Big Daddy’s a wuss

Don Sicilia’s a sweetheart
At math he’s a whiz
But with 4000 posts
No one knows who he is

Cristina’s a new gal
Her knowledge’s extensive
If we paid by the word here
She would sure be expensive

How is it possible?
Or is he bluffing
Every post by De Niro
Just one line that says nothing

He’s now off at college
Having fun I would think
Ragging Bull, I’ll remind you:
You’re too young to drink

Jimmy Buffer’s a teacher
But a kid who has prudence
Will opt for home schooling
If they’re one of his students

MaryCas is an actor
Who caused quite a sensation
When he changed all his lines
Into alliteration

Afsaneh’s a tough read
I have very few clues
How she lives in Iran
With her pro-Western views

And let’s not forget this guy
His findings are juicy
Which fits for a doctor
Fixing gals such as Lucy

You want “holiday” spirit?
Then Gina’s your member
She had her tree up
While it still was September

Our English mate Turi
Must now take his bows
When it comes to opimions
He has no sacred cows

Don Tommasso’s a lawyer
Not easily led
He’d do well to remember
What Shakespeare once said

Irish loves games threads
But let me explain
Is there one game that’s in there
That takes half a brain?

And, lastly…..

PL has a sled
That will help him to cope
When we all start to slide
Down the slippery slope

I studied Italian for 2 semesters. Not once was a "C" pronounced as a "G", and never was a trailing "I" ignored! And I'm from Jersey! tongue lol

After that -- all of a sudden, yet again, I realize how much I miss our buddy...

I studied Italian for 2 semesters. Not once was a "C" pronounced as a "G", and never was a trailing "I" ignored! And I'm from Jersey! tongue lol

Thanks for remembering that poem, Afs, and for finding it, JG.

I like this idea - also just favorite posts of his.

I was looking back at some old threads...

This was his funny description of one of the get-togethers.

JG, I loved your line in this post for his congrats thread: "523 attempts at humor were taken wrongly because there were no emoticons"

I always felt like I was using way too many emoticons when I talked with him, because he'd rarely use them...yet his posts were always in good humor, regardless. As he said in this post, "I'm hardly ever serious. But you knew that."

I'd like to remember one of his jokes.....this one (the "Bushie" cat one, does anyone remember?) absolutely got me roll on the floor laughing....

....and on a more personal ground, I remember the time we exchanged a couple of PMs. All I can tell you is that I asked him if I could consider myself a friend of his. He said "of course you can" and it made me happy. I wish I were able to connect more personally with him... We shouldn't behave as if time -- our share of time -- were eternal....we shouldn't left words unsaid. Now I regret I wasn't much around here lately. I could have known Plaw was so ill. I could have written something. My words would now be in the ground, along with the other ones....I could have told him how much I respected him and how much I was fond of him. Well, I guess he knows it now....

Plaw, my friend. I'm sure we'll meet someday....

Oh, thanks Lav and Gina for resurrecting these threads. Weren't those the fun times?! You can't help but have wet eyes along the smile reading and reviewing these old threads. I remember he once posted a thread about different kinds of flame wars on message boards, alas, I can't find that thread either.

It is up to JG, but I think some of us would be happy to help for making a page in memory of plaw : chronicles of plaw on GBB. I think in order not to see him coming to our dreams to punch us in the head, we keep it a little humorous and not too serious. Something he would've enjoyed reading himself. *Sigh*

Lavi, that link was great - it gave me a good laugh and put a smile on my face, which I think we could all use right now.

JG, he sure did a good job of making you look bad, here .

This post was one of the last before his break, and during that time, I found myself looking back at it several times...it seemed so beautiful, even then, just as memories from his time here.

Exactly my thoughts...

I hope nobody minds my posting of these memories. It's bittersweet, but I just want to think about the good times...
