Cannoli's are a bit too rich for me. I like the mini ones but the regular sized just have too much of that disgustingly sweet cream.

Anyway, cannoli's can kill you if you drive around w/ people who pick them up or are given one to eat at the opera.

I prefer sfoglatelli (which I know I am spelling pitifully wrong so anyone feel free to correct) which is a flaky, crunchy, clam-shaped pastry with just a little sweetened ricotta filling in the middle. Sprinkled lightly with powdered sugar...mmmmmmm!!!

I've never had a cannoli! I need to try at least one! My parents need to expose me to some culture, something other than macaroni and cheese for our authentic Italian cuisine (only joking, it's not that bad yet).

Tony Love -- for fresh cannoli in Chicago try Ferrara Bakery on Taylor Street. On the Northwest Side, there's Domino's on Harlem near Belmont, and just around the corner is Casa Nostra Bakery (yep...that's really their name!) on Belmont just east of Harlem.

All three places make 'em fresh so they don't get soggy.

Er..uh..I still like Molson CANADIAN better than Labatt Blue although Labatt's makes kickass rock star beer. I can honestly say without hestation that I have not ever tried SFOGLATELLI (spellling?) but from Apple's description, it sounds pretty good actually. Very appetizing.

D.V.C. do you mean as a desert or before dinner/lunch snack? Or just as food period? Cuz as a desert or before dinner/lunch snack it's hard to beat a really good cannoli, however as a food there are many better foods, Italian or from all other parts.

Cannnoli are something that you either like or not. In my family they are either filled with a cream or a ricotta mixture. My favorite is the ricotta. I am not a huge sweet eater but whenever a cannoli is there I can't resist having one.

However, they are very very rich and filling. I could never eat more than one at a sitting. As a kid, we'd have them every holiday. I make them occasionally, but admit I go to the Italian deli to get the shells and make the mixture myself. My sister makes the shells, but I'm not that patient and think I'd screw them up. :p

Thanks YTB! I will keep that in mind for next time I'm in the area as I enjoy my first cannoli.

That's exactly how I feel. I'm not a big sweet eater either. I absolutely cannot stand a cannoli with cream. It's just waaay too sweet. I do like it with the ricotta though. Unfortunately the Italian bakery across the street from me hardly ever makes them with ricotta. Gimme one of those and a rainbow cookie and I'm in heaven.

Lol!

First off it is a crime, second Michael Jacson is buttfuck guilty. He's a great talent and all, and a fine musician, and perhaps maybe a little eccentric, butttt he's guilty as fuck!

But hey, Thriller was Bad and Dangerous album. So whatever, nevermind, I guess he's cool with me!

:p

Yes! Tiramisu! LOL

It is very hard to find a good tiramisu, even in the restaurants… it is always different. Myself am still trying to find the perfection in preparing it.
Some years back, almost a decade ago I went to this very little Italian restaurant where a ‘real Italian’ woman worked in the kitchen. Why I say real Italian? Well… first, they all (employees) in the restaurant called her ‘mama’ and she looked like one. She was big, older, noisy (LOL) with moustache… but she made the best tiramisu! Months later the restaurant was taken over. Now, ten years later I never tasted anything divine as her tiramisu.

But Cannoli is also something I can hardly resist.

And we are between elections now. Can you imagine what it'll be like in 08 (assuming we are all still here)? This most likely is mild banter compared to what it could become. Something to look forward to. :p

Probably to try & get you to delete it when thanks to him you now cannot and therefore his 'humor' is preserved for posterity since even though he can try & steer the thread into a totally different direction, his posts are really nobody's property except his.

That's probably why.

I still like mini-cannoli's better, and can't take the cream alone. Gotta have a piece of the shell with each bite...the shell is what makes them, really.
