Almost 2 lbs, to be exact.

I was running around doing some errands, and had to pick up some water bottles next to the local jewish deli. Hadn't been in there a while, and just got the urge - our dinner at Harold's flashed before my eyes!

I blew off the rest of my errands and ordered a super-sized* Wolfie's Special (triple-decker corned beef, pastrami, tongue w/ coleslaw & russian dressing on rye) to go (with some matzo ball soup))

The lady asked, are you sure you want to super-size this, it's already a big sandwich! I know. When she was done, she was like, I've done this all my life and don't think I've ever made a bigger sandwich! Another girl said, I gotta weigh this - it was almost 2 lbs.

Sweet, since the sandwich was $15 (* incl the extra $3 to super-size it, which makes all the difference in the world!) -- the cold cuts separately cost like $19/lb anyway.

The picture doesn't do its height justice... and sorry it's a bit blurry, I was too anxious and drooling over myself taking the shot!

About 1/3 of it's in the fridge for later, along w/ the soup. I'm stuffed!

I studied Italian for 2 semesters. Not once was a "C" pronounced as a "G", and never was a trailing "I" ignored! And I'm from Jersey! tongue lol

OMG Sure does bring back great memories Geoff. I'm hoping I can find a deli when I move to Ohio. I could go for some heavy tongue action.

Man, do I long for some tongue.

The recent closing of Manhattan's Second Avenue Deli has put a real crimp in my kosher (not Jewish :p ) deli eating lately.

The closest one I know of now is on Signor Vitelli's Brooklyn turf - Adelman's on Kings Highway and Ocean Avenue.

I guess I should check out one of these Jersey places, but there's something about the words "Jersey" and "Kosher Deli" which just don't sound right together. Besides, you know what they say:

You can take the boy out of Brooklyn, but you can't take the Brooklyn kosher deli out of the boy.

The bread looks so little next to the meat.

You should have taken a picture of a matzo ball soup too... that, I love. In fact, I might stop by Nate\'n Al on my way to class and pick some up.

2nd Ave closed??!?! "My current rent is $24,000 a month for 2,800 square feet. They want $33,000. I can't afford that." OMG

And I'm not certain whether Wolfie's is Kosher or not, actually. This is Toms River, not Brooklyn. :p Could just be Jewish-style for all I know - even tho they sell the obligatory Dr Brown's soda and Halvah candy All I know is, that sandwich is AWESOME!

P.S. Someone on that "OMG" link posted that 2nd Ave Deli wasn't Kosher either. :p

No offense Geoff, but your tongue looks disgusting. :p

Not sure if I could handle all that.

That's tongue??? Actually it looks like pastrami. I'll have to take your word for it that it's good.

Wolfie's Special (triple-decker corned beef, pastrami, tongue w/ coleslaw & russian dressing on rye) -- it's not good, it's grrrrreat!

Don't worry TIS, we'll try to find some tongue for you in Philly!

JG - is your Wolfie's any relation to the Wolfie's restaurants that used to adorn Collins Ave. in Miami Beach?

Spent many summers there in the 60s and early 70s, back in the days before it became "South Beach". As a matter of fact, that's where I first saw The Godfather (at the Caribe theatre on Lincoln Road).

I would hasten to remind deli fanciers out there that Adelman's is the only sports-themed kosher deli I've ever seen!

Great sandwiches. Come to Brooklyn...where you'll be safe.

"No. Saints and poets, maybe... they do some."

Good lord, Geoff!

Maybe I shouldn't have looked at this thread after dinner. :p

Well, all I can say is congratulations, because that is quite a feat. Oh yeah, and we want visual proof that you finished it - the empty plate and your exhausted look after eating all of it.

I think we're talking ER admissions forms, doctor's report and discharge papers!

And perhaps an x-ray of his stomach, showing the entire sandwich still in its original form...just sitting by itself.

I know the old joke about the guy who won't eat tongue because he is disgusted by the idea of eating something that came from an animal's mouth, and then proceeds to order eggs!! I don't think I could handle that sandwich. JG, you are more man than I imagined!!
