This is not an April Fools joke even though it should be. To make headlines as a mob guy in Chicago now I guess you just have to simply steal a car out of a parking lot.

WTF?

April 1, 2024 — A wild and crazy guy he is for sure. Well-known Chicago Outfit young-gun “Lil’ Taz” is back in trouble with the law again in the Windy City.

Cicero crew affiliate and mob-button aspirant Joey (Lil’ Taz) Montoro, a favorite of current Chicago mafia leadership, was arrested last month for car theft out of DuPage County in Elmhurst, specifically a February boosting of a 2004 Toyota Camry sedan from the Elmhurst Hospital parking structure.

Back in December, Montoro was arrested for burglary, gun and drug possession out of Rockford, Illinois in Winnebago County tied to the robbery of a slot-machine business and was out on a double bond. One of the bonds stemmed from the Rockford case where he was taken into custody by the Chicago Police with cocaine and a pistol on his person and the other from an armed robbery case in Cook County.

Montoro traces his roots in the Chicago underworld to the 12th Street Players street gang, a quasi-mob farm club that feeds into the Outfit’s Cicero crew. According to multiple sources, Montoro is popular with several high-ranking figures, a number of them 12th Street Players alum, in the Cicero crew pecking order. His father used to be a cop in Berwyn. Federal intelligence documents and court filings allege Montoro sometimes liaison s for the Outfit and the Latin Kings Hispanic criminal organization, which keeps its’ national headquarters in Chicago.

The car theft business was quite big for the Italian criminals since 1920's......during the 70's and 80's they transported stolen American model cars all the way to the Middle East....

I understand that, but its a fuckin random stolen car. This isn't a story about a big chop shop operation that was busted up or whatever.

Back in the day could you ever see a mob guy getting a headline because he stole one car? No way would that have happened.

It just amazes me that this even became a story to begin with.

+1

Btw I dont know of you ever read my old article regarding the Outfit's car-theft racket from the 1920's until 1990's and if you didnt, I think you can find it on this forum under the name like "Outfit money: car-theft business" or something like that...its quite a story believe me...

I will look into that.

Now in regards to another story that actually deserves a headline, the Chop Shop wars of the 70s in Chicago is just that.

Thats right and I also explained that situation in details in that same article and believe or not, some of the victims of the so-called "chop shop" wars were killed because of their involvement in the dope trade. You see, many of those stolen cars who were distributed around the country, were also stashed with narcotics.
