Sounds like it's time to exercise some Mafia justice.

It's amazing how in tune these people are with America like wearing American sportswear and such. Can I ask, why are there more rats in Italy than, say, in Australia and Canada? You would think with Italy having a bigger code of silence culture that there would be less. But in Canada and Australia there are next to no rats, especially Canada. Not to mention, it would seem that it would be more dangerous to be a rat in Italy yet there are rats by the ton.

Interesting article about how a notorious turncoat continued in the underworld.

Italy Rethinks Treatment of ‘Repentant’ Mob Turncoats
BY FRANCES D’EMILIO
MAY 10, 1998 12 AM PT
ASSOCIATED PRESS
PALERMO, Sicily — He led police to the Mafia’s “boss of bosses” and gave prosecutors testimony that helped bring ex-Premier Giulio Andreotti to trial.
So Baldassare Di Maggio, as he later told a court, thought he could do anything he wanted, even kill.

Enjoying a state-paid bonus of a half-billion lire ($300,000), the Mafioso turncoat drove up and down Italy in his BMW, stocking up on Kalashnikovs and meeting with other mob songbirds to plot the elimination of rivals.

Arrested in October on murder charges and stripped of his turncoat benefits, Di Maggio is still paying for his spree. In March, his brother, Emanuele, a shepherd near Palermo, was fatally shot 11 times with a pistol. The slaying, like those of an uncle and nephew a few weeks earlier, were blamed on Di Maggio’s mob enemies.

Now questions are being asked about the whole small army of Mafia turncoats whose testimony has helped send hundreds of gangsters to prison.

As the Di Maggio affair unfolded, calls grew for an urgent overhaul of how turncoats are handled. Even leftists, traditionally the staunchest backers of the country’s powerful prosecutors, wondered how a man supposedly under police protection was apparently able to elude surveillance.

There was speculation that authorities might have turned a blind eye to let turncoats eliminate other mobsters. One turncoat told a court that Di Maggio had confided that “the dogs were tied up, they can’t bite me,” an insinuation that police let Di Maggio roam at will.

“There’s too much casualness in the use of ‘pentiti’ by police and magistrates when dealing with criminals who have shot 10, 20, 30, 40 people,” the head of Parliament’s Anti-Mafia Commission, Sen. Ottaviano Del Turco, said in his Rome office. “Collaborators were one thing when there were 20 or 30 of them and you could check out their declarations. It’s different when there are some 1,000 of them, with 6,000 to 7,000 wives, children and in-laws” to protect.

“Pentiti,” which means repentant ones, is how Italians refer to the turncoats. But one of every eight turncoats returns to crime, Del Turco said.

“The word ‘repentance’ is out of place. They’re either exalted, or condemned as criminals. [But] they’re somewhere in between,” said Alfredo Galasso, a founder of the anti-Mafia Rete [Network] Party and a lawyer representing a major turncoat.

Turncoats are a new phenomenon for the centuries-old Cosa Nostra. A few decades ago, authorities committed a would-be turncoat to a mental hospital on the rationale that anyone who dared defy the Mafia’s code of silence must be crazy.

But since the mid-1980s, when the state’s crackdown started winning the respect of some Mafiosi, mobsters have been coming forward in increasing numbers.

Del Turco is pushing a bill, now moving through Parliament, that would keep potential turncoats in jail for six months. During that time, a mobster would have to tell all, and prosecutors would then decide whether to grant protection.

The new law would also require turncoats to serve at least 10 years of a life sentence or one-quarter of lesser prison sentences. And it would allow only temporary living allowances until a new identity, home and job could be found, rather than stipends for life.

The day after Di Maggio’s brother was murdered, prosecutor Guido Lo Forte suggested that “outside forces”--some read that to imply American Mafiosi--might be using turncoats in a strategy to position one Sicilian crime clan over another.

Di Maggio told the court hearing Andreotti’s case that two men he took to be secret service agents offered him $3.5 million if he would testify that Palermo prosecutors put him up to saying that the reputed “boss of bosses,” Toto Riina, gave the ex-premier a kiss of honor. Di Maggio stuck to his version, damaging to Andreotti.

Riina was arrested in 1993 after 23 years as a fugitive after Di Maggio, who chauffeured him around Palermo, tipped police.

Andreotti, on trial in Palermo since 1995 on charges of Mafia association, has painted himself as a victim of political vendetta, and his lawyers seized gleefully on the Di Maggio business.

Di Maggio “says he wants to collaborate, but we discover he’s really trying to regain control of his territory” near Corleone, said Andreotti’s lawyer, Franco Coppi.

“Reset”, Roberto Porcaro renounces collaboration with justice
The now former repentant announced it during the hearing underway in the bunker courtroom in Catanzaro
Published on: 18/09/2023 – 15:29
by Fabio Benincasa

COSENZA Dramatic twist during the “ Reset ” hearing which is being held in Catanzaro, in the bunker courtroom. Roberto Porcaro , having repented in recent months, takes a sensational step backwards and announces his desire to give up collaborating with justice. It is Porcaro himself who takes the floor and announces the decision to those present. This morning, however, Francesco Greco had decided to collaborate with justice after his involvement in the Catanzaro DDA investigation . Porcaro, therefore, after months of filling in the interrogation reports given before the magistrates of the DDA of Catanzaro, decides to retrace his steps as his "lieutenant" Danilo Turboli had also done .

More than 50 arrested in latest Italy raid against 'Ndrangheta mafia
Reuters
September 22, 20239:27 AM GMT+2Updated 4 hours a

MILAN, Sept 22 (Reuters) - Over 50 people have been arrested in a new police raid against the 'Ndrangheta mafia in Italy, Carabinieri police said in a statement on Friday.

Deploying more than 400 personnel, the operation, named 'Karpanthos', was led by Prosecutor Nicola Gratteri, one of Italy's best-known anti-Mafia investigators.

Police said 38 people have been jailed, six put under house arrest and eight given orders not to leave their home towns.

Investigators have identified various criminal activities tied to the 'Ndrangheta, including large-scale drug trafficking, money laundering and extortion.

Italy's 'Ndrangheta has supplanted Sicily's Cosa Nostra as the country's most powerful mafia organisation, and has spread across Europe and the rest of the world.

The “Carpino” gang of Petronà
In detail, the investigation made it possible to document the existence of the 'Ndrangheta gang "Carpino" of Petronà, involved in a bloody feud in the 2000s, operating in the Catanzaro presila and with ramifications in Liguria and Lombardy, as well as the allied group criminal of Cerva, known as dei Cervesi, with extensions in Piedmont and Lombardy, both now falling under the influence of the local of Mesoraca (KR), mainly dedicated to extortion against building contractors and traders of the Catanzaro presila carried out through fires and damage , to armed robberies, to the laundering and fictitious registration of goods, to the trafficking of cocaine and marijuana with different supply channels, attributable in any case to subjects operating in the territories of Cutro or Mesoraca.

The 2017 municipal elections
The investigative activity has brought to light the political-mafia electoral exchange and the influence of the Cerva criminal group on the local municipal administration on the occasion of the 2017 elections, through the procurement of votes for some of the suspects - at the time candidates and elected in that round, then reconfirmed in the 2022 consultations - in exchange for the promise of money and a percentage on public procurement.

The possibility of the Petronà gang having access to public administration at its disposal also emerged. In this case, an employee of the Revenue Agency had made his function available to an affiliate, expressing his willingness to receive forgeries regarding the latter's property, to avoid the latter incurring sanctions or having to pay the IMU and obtaining, in exchange, the promise of favors of various kinds.

Yes, I've noticed with Italians and their surnames they almost all hail from the same region of Italy. In other words, Colosimo probably originated in Calabria and Cosenza in particular. Crazy when you think about it. I'm sure it's the same with other ethnicities as well.

“KARPANTHOS” INVESTIGATION
'Ndrangheta, pressure from his partner to silence the repentant. "You're selfish"
Danilo Monti's collaboration path stops at the first minutes. The role of Giuseppina Trovato, the "clash" over her daughter's future
Published on: 09/22/2023 – 16:47
by Pablo Petrasso

CATANZARO «And what should they do to me? I don't want to see anyone anymore, I don't want to have anything to do with anyone anymore, who have already ruined my life ." Danilo Monti expressed his intentions to his partner Giuseppina Trovato in February 2019. The man, in prison for the murder of the butcher Francesco Rosso , is the key figure in the "Karpanthos" investigation by the Catanzaro DDA into the infiltration of the 'Ndrangheta in the Municipality of Cerva. He is not a repentant but a "declarant": his path of collaboration with the anti-mafia magistrates was interrupted.
According to the investigators, that abrupt stop would have been favored by Monti's partner. The investigating judge Chiara Esposito speaks of " conditioning carried out by Giuseppina Trovato so that he would interrupt his path of collaboration with justice".

His partner "would not have allowed him to decide about his daughter's future"
Trovato, accused of external complicity in a mafia association, continued to frequent the other suspects after Monti's arrest for the Rosso crime. The woman turned to them " to guarantee the safety of her partner " and to convey important information. The meetings would also have been extended to " subjects of investigative interest in the province of Lecco, among which the figure of Vincenzo Marchio stands out ". It is she who attempts to reduce the level of her partner's collaboration with the justice system, reporting that that dialogue with the investigators referred only to "the murderand that protection for family members would be triggered when Monti Danilo decided to collaborate fully". Then a resolution that is a cliché in the repentances announced in 'Ndrangheta families. It is again the district judge who reports in summary that Trovato "would never have allowed" Monti "to collaborate with justice as he would not have allowed him to decide on his daughter's future ". «Pressure», evidently, was successful.

The accusation against Monti: «You are selfish»
The investigation - signed by prosecutors Veronica Calcagno and Debora Rizza and coordinated by prosecutor Nicola Gratteri and deputy Giancarlo Novelli - documents some key steps in the choice of Monti. In an interview on 6 February 2019, Giuseppina Trovato, "in the face of the fragility and humanity demonstrated by Danilo Monti who, crying, lamented the absence of his daughter and said he wanted to die ", "accused" him. This is because "if he had continued his collaboration with the justice system to the end ( and therefore had talked about something other than murder, ed. ), he would have behaved selfishly towards" his partner.. The choice to collaborate, the woman argues, "on the one hand would have allowed him to spend time with their daughter , on the other hand it would have limited the freedom of Giuseppina Trovato herself and many other people". That collaboration, for Monti's partner, " would still have represented a big risk ". An underlining that would demonstrate, once again, how Trovato is "fully aware of the criminal caliber of the subjects who would have been called into question following the statements made by his partner". It is, perhaps, after this dialogue that that "what should they do to me" linked to the desire to leave one's past behind, for Monti it vanishes together with the idea of ??embracing the path of collaboration with justice .

The first report: the planned murder in Lecco and the "baptism"
It is a return to that dark past that brought him - on 30 October 2018 - before investigators as a suspect for the murder of the butcher of Simeri Crichi . That day, Monti confesses to the crime and says he is willing to collaborate with justice . His words will lead to first and second degree convictions for the perpetrators and instigators.
The excerpts from that first report also reveal the names of the members of Cerva's 'ndrina , outline responsibilities in old murders and reconstruct alliances and criminal dynamics. Monti talks about the "proposal" to kill a rival in Lecco and recalls the day of his affiliation, 1 November 2014. « At my "baptism" of affiliation– he says – Santino Gigliotti, Mario Gigliotti, Michele Griffo and Giuseppe Rocca were present. These were the people who participated in the ritual giving me the first dowry. After the ritual we went to eat at Santino Gigliotti's house and afterwards Mario Gigliotti told Michele Griffo to go and inform Giovanni Sacco at Cerca that I had been affiliated." They are vivid memories of the day they "ruined his life". Without him having found the strength to try to redeem her.

I have also seen the rare name ioele in investigations so there could be link with Frankie Yale (Ioele). Like James Colosimo he was from Cosenza.

I looked up a lot of people on that list and let me tell you, you would never guess that they're members of any criminal organization. They look so plain and regular. I guess that's the whole point.

I wonder how many Ndrangheta people are over here walking amongst us? Lucchese turncoat John Pennisi once mentioned that he had run-ins with them and that they were always respectful or something of that nature.

It is known that the 'Ndrangheta branches in North America have been associating with Italian-American organized crime.

The I-CAN project has been very succesful so far.

The operational activity carried out since June 2020 by the I-CAN Unit has made it possible to locate and arrest 43 fugitives belonging to the 'ndrangheta (of which 2 in Albania, 4 in Argentina, 3 in Brazil, one in Canada, one in Costa Rica, one in France, one in Georgia, one in Indonesia, 3 in Italy, 4 in Poland, one in Portugal, one in the Dominican Republic, 11 in Spain, 5 in Switzerland, 2 in Turkey, one in Hungary). Large sums of cash, drugs and weapons were also seized and further supporters were arrested in Italy.

All because the hypocritical government wants full control over everything and to be the top dog. Let's just call it what it is.

Hollander how much damage do you think it will actually do to the Ndrangheta? I mean it's already been 3 years since it started and it seems to be business as usual with those guys. And the capture of Ndrangheta fugitives as well as asset seizures is really nothing new, even before I-CAN.

It helps because it's a global phenomenon international cooperation between police forces had to be better organized. They have still a long way to go though at least this project creates more awereness.

It helps but also main power of 'Ndrangheta is their secrecy and control over people in Calabria region. You have towns/villages completely controlled by 'Ndrangheta there. They can stay in hiding there for years and years which they usually do.

I think your statement kinda underestimates the power of the Ndrangheta, suggesting that they're confined to this one little region of Italy. They're very powerful in Northern Italy as well as several other continents. Even 1st world countries like Australia and Canada, even the US for all we know.

hree British 'drug smugglers from gang responsible for 10% of cocaine shipped into Europe' are led into Greek court for trial under heavy security - as global manhunt continues for leader dubbed 'UK's Pablo Escobar'

Investigators believe the British are working in tandem with the Calabrian mafia in southern Italy, known as the 'Ndrangheta and who have long established links with the South American cartels.

'Ndrangheta, narcos linked to the Siderno clans in trafficking at the port of Trieste
Maxi seizure of cocaine, 80 million in income taken away from criminals. Four groups have been identified in Italy by investigators

'Ndrangheta, narcos linked to the Siderno clans in trafficking at the port of Trieste
TRIESTE The proceeds stolen from the criminal network dedicated to international drug trafficking , dismantled today by the GDF of Trieste, directed by the local District Anti-Mafia Directorate with the prosecutor Federico Frezza, amount to approximately 70-80 million euros . A figure that the traffickers could have obtained once the 717 kilos of pure cocaine , coming from Colombia and seized by the police, had been cut. This is one of the details that emerges from the Cultro 23 operation , the results of which were presented today during a press conference at the Prosecutor's Office .

The Calabrian group linked to the Siderno 'ndrine
The precautionary measures, 14 carried out today, concern, among others, 4 people already in prison and 5 Colombian citizens , for whom a European arrest warrant has been issued; extradition procedures will also be activated. Four groups of criminals have been identified in Italy: «A French group with a double Franco-Moroccan passport – explained Colonel Leonardo Erre , commander of the PEF unit of the GDF of Trieste – a group from Campania , with a subject who should be contiguous to the Mazzarella clan ; a Calabrian group, people who, according to court evidence, have been convicted of criminal association because they were members of the 'ndrine of the Siderno clan ; a Swiss group, of which for now only the Colombian mediator has been identified".

The role of undercover agents
As part of the operation, which began last December with the seizure of the drugs in Colombia, deliveries of the narcotic were documented for three months . Undercover agents played a logistical role: they guarded the drugs and delivered them . For the "disturbance" they were given money, equal to approximately 10% of the value of the goods. Hence the 700 thousand euros seized and made available to the State . The port of Trieste played a key role in this operation, used as a decoy– explained the chief prosecutor, Antonio De Nicolo – to convince Colombian sellers to use this destination location». But then the drugs arrived by plane and were seized. In general, added De Nicolo, the port of Trieste attracts a lot of legitimate traffic, but "also illicit ones and must be paid attention to ". Stories and suggestions about Franco Coco Trovato: «He was the second after Totò Riina»
The bodies thrown into acid, the army of men at his command, the orders given by the prison: "He was in prison and people were dying"

CATANZARO The figure of Franco Coco Trovato is generally linked to the 'Ndrangheta in the North, in Lecco in particular. Today he is an elderly 76-year-old boss, originally from Marcedusa, who finds himself restricted to 41 bis. But his charismatic figure has not stopped guiding and influencing the new generations. Even in 2019, stories and suggestions are still circulating about him: he allegedly commanded over 200 murders, he got rid of his enemies by dissolving them in acid (in a huge tank that he kept in a shed), he became the second boss after Totò Riina, he commanded an army of men, he gave orders from prison: "He was in prison and people were dying."
These are the dialogues that emerged in the latest investigation by the Catanzaro DDA, "Karpanthos", and trace that invisible thread that leads the gangs of Petronà and Cerva, towns hinged between the provinces of Catanzaro and Crotone, to the heart of the system created by Franco Coco Found.

Granddaughter Giusy
Suffice it to say that among those under investigation we find Giuseppina Trovato, known as Giusy, 38 years old, born in Lecco, daughter of one of the boss's brothers.
She is accused of mafia association, within the Carpino gang, in its territorial subdivision made up of the Cerva group. It is she who would have worked to convince her comrade Danilo Monti to interrupt the collaboration with the Catanzaro DDA. The heaviest lock pick used by Giusy Found on her boyfriend would have been their daughter. It worked. The district investigating judge reports that Monti "complained about missing his daughter and said he wanted to die". She would have convinced him to talk only about the murder of the butcher Francesco Rosso, for which he had been arrested, then she would have taken it upon herself to bring his statements outside to make them known to the coterie. «… She carried Danilo Monti's messages outside, written on handkerchiefs given during prison interviews, constantly keeping Monti updated on his relationships with his associates, reassuring him that he had no need to fear for his safety; maintained relationships with associates, both in the province of Lecco and in Calabria...", note the magistrates of the Catanzaro District in the request for precautionary measures written by prosecutors Veronica Calcagno and Debora Rizza and coordinated by the prosecutor Nicola Gratteri and the deputy Giancarlo New.

«He ruled all over Italy»
In the dialogues Coco Trovato is described as a person who "was in charge" throughout Italy, a high-caliber drug trafficker, even managing his affairs from prison. During the conversations, Luigi Colosimo, 36 years old, - also considered to be an insider to the Carpino gang - asked Giusy Trovato if she had visited her uncle in the recent past and the woman replied by saying that the last time she had been there was about five years ago. Before. Colosimo's father (not under investigation) turns out to be richer in anecdotes, having learned several stories from a certain "Sandrino", Franco Coco Trovato's long-time driver.
The young Luigi is very curious: «Franco was saddled with them, how many were they saddled with in Down?... 200 right!?... murders in Franco?– he asks Giusy Trovato – oh I know some people from here… do you know what they told me?… Calabrian?… where are you from?… I told you I'm from the province of Catanzaro… he says we only know one person from this province… who was in charge in Milan… what's his name?… Franco Coco…».

«The second after Totò Riina»
Claudio Gentile, of the Cerva criminal group, adds to the matter: «But in fact he had become the second after Totò Riina eh! ».
The dialogue helps to outline a picture of Franco Coco Trovato, a man who until the age of thirty bore his mother's surname Coco, until, in 1977, his natural father formally recognized it. A man who, from being the head of the Marcedusa club, had become the head of an alliance of 'ndrine from Milan and Lecco between the eighties and nineties.
A man who has brothers who are "very different" from him. Giusy Trovato's father, in fact, was a singer while another brother is a pizza chef.
Luigi Colosimo is curious to know from his father if Franco Coco Trovato had ever raised brothers "in the midst of these messes", or if he had other men.
" He had an army at the time ," replies the father.
Men he also commanded from prison: «He was in prison and people died… and he was in prison! (...) even in Sardinia he is in charge and I'm telling you that he was in prison and people were dying! ». A man who made a body disappear by throwing it into acid , in the silence of a shed: «He threw it in there, into that acid... and they melted (...) he had a shed, he had a tank bigger than this apartment, of acid, he threw live people in it... and they melted... he immersed them with all the stuff...".
«Dad – asks Luigi Colosimo – they told me that he was a very strong man!»
The comparison returns to the head of Cosa Nostra: «You spent a few years together with Totò Riina, do you know that?».

The feud and the influence of Coco Trovato's group
In 2001, the declarations of the justice collaborator Carmine Scarpino revealed how strong the bond and influence of the group commanded by Coco Trovato still were with the land of origin and the gangs that presided over it. The repentant reveals that in the territory of Petronà, in the 90s, there was a bloody feud between the Carpino gang and the Bubbo gang (which the Arena's intervention put an end to). In an ambush in August 1992, gang leader Alberto Carpino remained miraculously unharmed while one of the men traveling with him was killed.
Scarpino says that the Bubbos availed themselves of the support of the Iazzolino gang and that led by Franco Coco Trovato .
The failed collaborator Danilo Monti, however, told how the territories of Petronà and Cerva, on which the Carpino gangs and the Cerva group rage, were under the control of the local 'ndrangheta of Mesoraca, headed by Mario Donato Ferrazzo, alias "Baby mouse".
Statement which is reflected in those made in 2017 by the collaborator Giuseppe Liperoti: «Petronà as well as Sersale was an 'ndrina of Marcedusa since the 90s when the influence of Franco Coco Trovato was strong in Marcedusa. When Franco Coco Trovato, who had now moved to Lecco, began to lose interest in Calabria, the club moved to Mesoraca and Mario Ferrazzo, alias Topolino, was recognized as the boss. […]".
Coco Trovato's influence persisted, however, in the Calabrian territories where he grew up. So much so that in July 2020, Giuseppe Rocca, one of the promoters of the Carpino gang, turned to Tommaso Scalzi, regent of the coterie after the arrest of Coco Trovato, to ask him how to get a message to the boss, given that he was there a cousin of his who wanted to ask his permission to go on a "trip". And only Franco Coco Trovato could give certain "permissions". (a.truzzolillo@corrierecal.it)

October 5, 2023

Italian police on Wednesday arrested 33 people who were part of a crime network in which Chinese financial experts laundered millions of money for organized crime, mainly for the 'ndrangheta. Francesco Ruis, colonel of the tax investigation department, told the Reuters news agency that at least 50 million euros worth of money laundering transactions were discovered between 2020 and 2022, but that it is probably five times as much money.

Man arrested In Holland who will serve 20 years in prison in Italy

A 45-year-old motorist was arrested on the A28 on Saturday after a driver's license check revealed that he was wanted in Italy due to a 20-year prison sentence for committing a life crime.

Forged Polish driver's license
Officers saw a man driving a car on the A28 near Zeist around midnight on Saturday. When they stopped the driver for a routine check, it turned out that he identified himself with a forged Polish driver's license.

Fugitive
Officers then conducted further investigation into the man's identity, which revealed that he was wanted by Italian authorities following a 20-year prison sentence for a life offense conviction in Italy. It is not clear whether it is murder or manslaughter.

The man is currently in custody and will be handed over to authorities in Italy at some point, police said in a press release.

Francesco Ruis, colonel of the tax investigation department, told the Reuters news agency that at least 50 million euros worth of money laundering transactions were discovered between 2020 and 2022, but that it is probably five times as much money.

Fanpage.it learns from qualified sources, have reconstructed " contributions" of money also from Naples and monitored relationships with Calabrian criminals, believed to be linked to the 'Ndrangheta, and even with criminals stationed in Holland. Among the major clients, however, was Antonio Gala's group : Neapolitan of origin, raised in the shadow of the Marano drug holding companies but resident in Rome for years, he is considered one of the main drug trafficking brokers at an international level.

Who is the international broker Antonio Gala
Gala, 43, is currently a fugitive, wanted following a detention order signed in 2020 by the Court of Naples for a different investigation, again for drug crimes. But he is an old acquaintance of the police: in 2002, when he was just 19 years old, he had been among the recipients of a precautionary custody order in the "Valentino" operation, together with 27 other people.

Grandson of Giuseppe Gala, a leading exponent of the Marano Camorra since the 1990s (first with the Nuvoletta clan and later with the Polverino), Antonio Gala is considered linked to the Orlando group, albeit with considerable autonomy which would allow him to deal with the big ones cargoes of drugs from Spain and Colombia as brokers and with the possibility of selling the drugs to multiple criminal groups.

The "Capogna method"
After his release from prison in 2014, the 43-year-old moved permanently to Rome where, based in Tor Pignattara, he allegedly managed drug trafficking together with Fabrizio Capogna (also among the recipients of the order), the creator of what he investigators define the "Capogna method": code words, appointments in pre-established places, telephones that cannot be intercepted, no direct contact with those handling drugs and a large group of rental vehicles for the transport of drugs.

The foreign diplomatic drug courier
In this case the organization also made use of a vehicle that was usually unsuspected, but above all untouchable: a car with a diplomatic license plate from the Yemen consulate , used by a high-ranking diplomat to act as a drug courier. The man, however, cannot be prosecuted by the Italian authorities because he enjoys diplomatic immunity.
