Well he also wrote one fictional book on the Outfit, which explains some of his statements, although his FBI reports from the 50's, 60's and 70's, which were made together with other agents, are simply "gold".

Are you talking about the one about Chicago and New Yorks fight over Vegas? Legitimately one of the worst, and most obviously made up books ever.

I was actually a little taken back years ago when I picked up Roemer's book for a read. Knowing that he was an FBI agent, I thought the book would be very interesting....But I didn't get through a chapter or two before I started really questioning what was in the book.

Pretty soon I realized that it was all phony information, and Roemer was basically just making most of the stuff up. IMO it was a real bullshit book and a waste of time.

In fact, it was so bad that I returned the book and never bothered reading it.

The fact that a bonafide FBI agent would stoop so low and compromise his reputation by writing garbage was really surprising.

If an FBI agent would lie throughout an entire book, just imagine the lies they come up with to get guys convicted.

1000%...it happens all the time. (not all of them, to be sure), but in many of their minds, they figure, "the ends justify the means."

It seems some of the old guys thought that Roemer represented a real problem to them during the old days....

Also, Roemer once made some type of interview with one of the Outfit's most "hardcore" leaders Murray Humphreys...

It’s not overly fascinating considering the Detroit and St. Louis families were connected by marriage and geographically back in Sicily. Also, Hoffa was connected to a St Louis lawyer with points in some casinos - Morris Shenker.

There’s some great wiretap audio of Joey Lombardo extorting him.

I guess it's fascinating to me because while St. Louis did have a Mafia family, when I think of states where mobsters from Chicago, Detroit, and NYC could get together for a meeting, Missouri doesn't come to mind in the least bit. But that's just me. Appreciate you pointing out that Detroit and St. Louis were intertwined in such a way.

Yes for example "Frank Three Fingers" Coppola was a major drug trafficker with strong ties to the Detroit Partnership with Angelo Meli and the St. Louis crime family particularly Anthony "Tony" Giordano.
He was also a close associate of Jimmy Hoffa. His activities soon led him to be on the FBI list of most wanted criminals.

My personal opinion is that one of the biggest mistakes that U.S. government did at the time, was the deportation of mobsters in their home countries, something which made quite large contribution to the narcotics trade. Some of these fellas were few of the biggest criminal minds such as Charles Luciano, Frank Coppola, Serafino Mancuso or Chicago’s Dominic Roberto who in turn was probably the first deported Capone member since the early 1930s and his crew was also deeply involved in the trade during the following decades.
