I always believed, like Buscetta, Bardellino wasn't killed in Brazil there is very little hard evidence.

The mystery about Antonio Bardellino deepens, a bunker of the former Casalesi boss found in Formia

This discovery would lead to new hypotheses on the mysterious disappearance of Bardellino, officially assassinated in Brazil in 1988 by Mario Iovine. In short, the boss of the Camorra in Caserta may not have died in those circumstances as has always been believed.

Formia, the nephew of the founder of the Clan dei Casalesi blurts out against the city councilor: "We Bardellino are decent people"

It went unnoticed at least in the great latitudes of local information but, last year July 9, Angelo Bardellino , son of Ernesto Bardellino and nephew of the founder of the Clan dei Casalesi, Antonio Bardellino, felt the need to frontally attack the former mayor and current municipal councilor Paola Villa (Another City and Five Star Movement).

They said about Antonio Bardellino

«After a summit he left a building surrounded by eight bodyguards and fled aboard an armored 127 . These are honors that shouldn't be given to just anyone."

( Luigi Gay, Public Prosecutor in the 1983 trial against the Nuova Famiglia , regarding the failure to arrest the boss in Castellammare di Stabia )

«Antonio Bardellino, I can say it with the conviction of not being misunderstood, was one of the few if not the only "gentleman" boss in Italy , he didn't like carnage, he was the last old-fashioned godfather»

( Vincenzo Scolastico, Attorney of the Republic at the Court of Genoa and before Savona )

«Relations with the Casalesi were very close, we were two souls in one body and we placed, right in Bardellino, a boundless admiration, recognizing him an undoubted position of supremacy in front of all of us»

( Carmine Alfieri )

«Until 1981 the relationship between Carmine Alfieri and Lorenzo Nuvoletta was one of close alliance, together with Antonio Bardellino, whom I consider one of the most representative figures of the Campania Camorra, a man of great courage and respectful of the rules»

( Pasquale Galasso , Alfieri 's right arm )

«It was understood that I would have to take advice, for any important decisions, either from the Nuvolettas or from Antonio Bardellino»

( Umberto Ammaturo )

«On that occasion Bardellino told me: "The time has come: we are going to commit suicide above the Nuvoletta house"»

( Pasquale Galasso )

"Doctor, don't mortify Bardellino, I couldn't give him advice, I would only have expressed an opinion, I couldn't tell him anything at all, I took off my hat in front of him, he was a great Campanian"

( Carmine Alfieri )

«Is it already obvious that Bardellino is dead? I don't know, but I don't think he's dead."

( Tomasso Buscetta )

We do know Mario Iovine was assassinated in a phone booth in Portugal in '91, the boss Nunzio De Falco, 72, died last year, I missed that. He was responsible for the murder of Iovine.

THE SUMMER MYSTERY "Bardellino is alive, I met him in New York"
July 29, 2023 - 1:28 pm

A 70-year-old from Formia declared it to the men of the mobile team.
SAN CIPRIANO DI AVERSA (Tina Palomba) “ Antonio Bardellino is still alive and came to Italy in 2010 and 2014 on the occasion of the marriage of his son with his first wife which took place in San Cipriano. I personally met him at the New York airport ”. This is what Giuseppe Favoccia, 70 years old from Formia, declares to the men of the mobile team of Latina. An episode which, together with other traces relating to the figure of the historic clan leader, are transcribed in the documentation of the DDA of Naples on this latest investigation into the Bardellino family which resulted in various searches between the provinces of Caserta and Latina. The public prosecutor of the DDA of Naples Vincenzo

Ranieri writes: " It appears quite evident that the possible existence of the same in life, or a different era of death, could represent an element of certain relevance in relation to the relations between the Bardellino family and the Casalesi clan, in the light of all the elements of doubt needs to be carefully scrutinized ”. In fact, it will be the recent searches and the interesting material seized, photos, mobile phones, travel tickets that will provide the starting point for cross-checking the previous investigations and recent statements such as those of Favoccia who adds: “Antonio Bardellino has commanded New York . In 2017 Antonio Bardellino lived in Paraguay or Uruguay where he had interests in some fishing companies ”.
The judicial police found that Favoccia actually made a trip to New York with his wife in 2010. Another element that emerged during the investigations concerns the letter exchanged between Fabrizio Aniello and Natalino Morlando (at the time detained in 2004) in which Aniello conveyed his greetings by Calisto Bardellino (son of Ernesto and nephew of Antonio Bardellino ) and writes " Calisto greets you, in Formia it is a mess, it is said that uncle Antonio has returned, they have spotted him on a yacht ". The prosecutor of the Dda still writes "another anomalous circumstance is represented by the application for a declaration of death of Antonio Bardellino filed in June 2017 at the court of North Naples. (therefore 30 years after the disappearance of the boss) by Salvatore Bardellino (Antonio's brother) and Filomena and Maria Bardellino (Antonio's sisters )”

A phone call from Antonio Bardellino's brother emerges from the investigations of the District Anti-Mafia Directorate

On the phone, intercepted by the investigators of the Guardia di Finanza of Formia in 2019, one of the brothers of Antonio Bardellino, Silvio Bardellino would have greeted one of the nephews, sons of Antonio Bardellino (Gustavo De Vita), had by his second wife Rita De Vita, saying: "Say hello to dad, the construction here is completely still". And again in 2019, the Finance of Formia, intercepting Angelo Bardellino, son of the former mayor of San Cipriano d'Aversa Ernesto Bardellino, with his daughter, valued this sentence: "He's another uncle, he's in America, in Mexico, he's young and strong, someone who has made a lot of people work, a great man… I took after Uncle Antonio”.

High level people must have known he faked his death, from the beginning there were rumors pointing to that direction.

Remember Bardellino is linked to the historical Sicilian clans of Bontade and Inzerillo.

Until traces of DNA or a man who corresponds to Bardellino will found, for now to say that he is alive is useless.

I believe that he's still alive. Just like you can say that he's been killed, well there's no proof of that either.

Just a matter of time if they find Giuseppe Favoccia reliable the hunt is on.

But is he even wanted by law enforcement? I don’t remember him being on any fugitive list.

He was a fugitive in Brazil at the time of his disappearance, in later years they never had any searches anymore.

Several collaborators of justice spoke of Bardellino's death. All claimed to have known the circumstances directly from Mario Iovine or by people close to him, but to this day there is no version worthy of being trusted, but doubts were nourished also fueled by sources judged to be reliable. For example, years later, the former director of the military secret services , Cesare Pucci, in the Anti-Mafia commission , said that there was no evidence that he had been killed and that until his body had been found, he should be considered alive .

The application for a declaration of death of Antonio Bardellino was filed in June 2017 at the court of North Naples, 30 years after the disappearance of the boss, by Salvatore Bardellino (Antonio's brother) and his sisters Filomena and Maria Bardellino.

That's understandably a way for them to cope with his disappearance, or they know he's still alive but not saying. Either way, it's still not proof that he was killed. He could've died from old age by now, which would mean that he still faked his death.

Yes it also has some legal consequences idk, but I believe his family knows they are true 'Cosa Nostra'.

He would be 78 and still travelling through DR. South America, USA, Europe lol..

If this turns out to be true, he just might be the only known man in history to have pulled this off. People say the same thing about Tupac and Elvis Presley, but I think most agree that's bullshit.

Yep if he is still alive he deserves a Hollywood movie, he was also a partner of John Gotti in the junk business.

Casal di Principe:, the niece of Antonio Bardellino reported for drug dealing
30 July 2023

Antonietta Bardellino, 46-year-old niece of the boss of the Casalesi clan in Caserta has been reported for drug dealing. The military found 18 grams of marijuana, a precision scale and packaging material in her home. Today's edition of the morning reiterates it.

Casalesi in Caserta, niece of the boss reported for drug dealing
The military in her home in Formia, during a search, found 18 grams of marijuana, a precision scale and packaging material. So the woman ended up being reported. But that's not the only result of the searches by the Rome prosecutor's office : two days ago Giuseppe Favoccia, 73, from Formia, was arrested, found at home at the time of the blitz. In his home, an altered and semi-automatic pistol with no serial number was found with 7.65 caliber ammunition.

The man is also linked to the wounding in an ambush of Gustavo Bardellino, brother of Antonietta, an event for which the Rome and Naples prosecutors are closing the circle around the relatives of the old boss in recent days.

Even if he is still alive , i don't think we will ever find the truth of what happened. There is no way they find him now after 30+ years.

Never say never, Favoccia said “ Antonio Bardellino is still alive and came to Italy in 2010 and 2014 on the occasion of the marriage of his son with his first wife which took place in San Cipriano " and
" In 2017 Antonio Bardellino lived in Paraguay or Uruguay where he had interests in some fishing companies ”.

Why would he that make up? And they did find the bunker in the last days.

Hunt for boss Antonio Bardellino, his nephew: "Uncle is in America, he's strong"

Antonio Bardellino, Angelo Bardellino and Francesco Schiavone

[Linked Image]

From Joseph Tallino-31 July 2023

S. CIPRIANO D'AVERSA – “He is in the United States, he is in America, he is in Mexico. He is young and strong”: words by Angelo Bardellino. His words heard by the agents of the financial police eleven years ago. Words which, according to the District Anti-Mafia Directorate, referred to Antonio Bardellino, the boss of San Cipriano d'Aversa who disappeared 35 years ago in Brazil. Angelo, the mafioso's nephew (he is the son of his brother Ernesto) was talking to his daughter and, apparently, was telling her about his uncle's exploits, showing her all the admiration he had for the criminal: “A very strong man! He is someone who has made a lot of people work, a great man. […] I got it from Uncle Antonio”.

The investigations
Exaltation of the boss aside, for the Dda this is an important conversation because Angelo Bardellino referred to the boss as a person still alive (at least in 2012): “He's in America. He is in Mexico ”. Phrases that represent a further element in support of the thesis, on which the Neapolitan Antimafia is working. Which? That Antonio Bardellino was not killed, as attested, however, by the sentence of the Spartacus trial, in Brazil, in 1988, by the hand of Mario Iovine, aka Marittiello (and on the orders of the one who would soon become the clan chief, Francesco Sandokan Schiavone of Casal di Principe), but, by choosing to leave the scene, at least from the Agro Aversano area, he would have managed to save his life (by convincing Marittiello not to kill him) and that of his family (moving them to Lower Lazio).

The two photos
Among the evidence that is pushing the DDA to believe in this alternative version are two photos of men between 60 and 70 years old, which appear to be totally compatible, say the experts who analyzed them, with the photo of Antonio Bardellino. What does it mean? That if the subject of the two shots (one found during the blitz that led to the arrest of Angelo Bardellino, the other recovered from an investigative source) corresponds to the Sanciprianese and is between 60 and 70 years old (at the time of taking the photo ), the mobster could not have been killed in 1988, when he was 43 years old.

The conversation
Under the lens of the Antimafia there is also a conversation between Silvio Bardellino and his nephew Gustavo De Vita, son of Antonio Bardellino and Rosa De Vita (the woman who followed the boss to Santo Domingo). Silvio, during the conversation, tells him: "There's no work, but my health is fine." And then: “Say hello to dad”. For the investigators, these are messages that he had to send to someone to make him aware of the state of affairs in Italy. But there is also another aspect: Gustavo De Vita's father, or Antonio Bardellino, should be dead. And so, asking his nephew to say hello to his dad, who was Silvio referring to? Mystery.

The investigation
The figure of the Sanciprianese has returned to the center of attention of the DDA because an investigation is underway aimed at verifying the existence of an alleged criminal cartel which sees Bardellino's heirs as allies, i.e. the nephews Gustavo and Calisto Bardellino, and the clan of the Casalesi. According to what has been collected so far by the prosecutor Vincenzo Ranieri, the Bardellinos would have paid at least since May 2019 part of the proceeds they collected from illicit businesses active in Formia. In relation to this investigative action and the research of Antonio Bardellino, numerous searches were carried out last week at the homes of family members of the Sanciprianese and of people who could potentially have been in contact with him in the last 20 years.

Leaving aside the Bidognetti, who moved independently of the other families of the clan, the Zagarias remain to complete the scenario. But over the last twenty years, unlike the other allied gangs, they have shown a less hostile attitude towards the Bardellinos. And this is demonstrated by the fact that Michele Zagaria, before being arrested in 2011, had favored the return to the province of Caserta of Antonio Salzillo, nephew of the boss Antonio Bardellino, with the aim of putting pressure on Nicola Schiavone (with whom the mafioso of Casapesenna was about to go to war). Sandokan's son reacted to this move by organizing an ambush that led to the death, in 2009, of Salzillo and his driver.

The two photos
Among the evidence that is pushing the DDA to believe in this alternative version are two photos of men between 60 and 70 years old, which appear to be totally compatible, say the experts who analyzed them, with the photo of Antonio Bardellino.

more and more leads..

People love these legends. A little too much. This case was investigated thoroughly, but they never found anything that suggested that he was still alive.

But you had to play it cool, had to do it your way
Had to be a fool, had to throw it all away

From the documents it would emerge that the American FBI also conducted checks on the alleged connivance, then not further confirmed, between Favoccia and the Gambino mafia family of New York.
Also in the United States, an investigation is allegedly underway regarding a villa in Formia that Bardellino's wife had purchased in the 1980s and then resold it in 1995 to an entrepreneur originally from the province of Catanzaro who later emigrated to the United States. After his death, the villa was purchased in 2000 by his brother, who in turn still lives in Massachusetts, writes 'Repubblica'.

I don't believe that he was assassinated. He might be dead from old age by now, but I don't believe he was killed in 1988.

Time will tell, Peppe Favoccia is already talking with Italian authorities.

Antonio Bardellino and the strange birth certificate: new doubts about his death
of editorial staff August 1, 2023in Chronicle News
Reading time: 2 minutes

The boss's wife presented a document with the name of a "ghost" man

The investigation that aims to shed light on the fate of Antonio Bardellino, the founder of the Casalesi clan who according to the sentence of the Spartacus maxi-trial, and also according to a repentant of the caliber of Carmine Schiavone, was born from an at least anomalous birth certificate (but his body was never found) in Brazil in 1988 by Mario Iovine to avenge the murder of his brother Domenico.

The certificate in question has been the subject of investigations by the DNA (with the national prosecutor Giovanni Melillo and the anti-mafia prosecutor Antonello Ardituro), but not only, since the story in some way also involves the prosecutors of Rome and Naples. Presented in 2003 to the registry office of Formia by the wife of the deceased capoclan, acquired by a now deceased financier, the certificate concerns the birth of a child, daughter of the woman and of a man who does not seem to exist: this man's name - indeed he would be called – Marco Bardellino Diana and, despite the investigations of the investigators, no trace of him has been found, as if he were a ghost. The fact is that the mother of that girl (now a woman) is Bardellino's ex-partner (who has two other children, both with maternal surname) and the alleged father bears the surname of the boss – Bardellino – associated with the surname of the latter's mother, Diana. A strange coincidence.

The investigations
During the investigations, the investigators also found other elements - including testimonies whose veracity is being examined - which would seem to lend credence to the hypothesis that in reality Antonio Bardellino was not killed in 1988, but instead fled from Italy to the vault of the Americas.

In recent weeks, during some searches by the police in Formia, a small underground compartment, 170 centimeters high, was discovered in an apartment in the past attributable to the founder of the Casalesi clan which could be one of Bardellino's hideouts. This latest discovery is the result of the investigations by the DDA of Rome and Naples into the attempted murder of Gustavo Bardellino, 43, the boss's nephew, which took place in February 2022.

Murder Bardellino, the reconstruction of the new agreements
Formia - Vincenzo Di Caterino, according to the pentiti, is the pawn that led to the readmission of the Bardellinos into the clan since 2019

02/08/2023 1pm
It is a slow and meticulous work that lies behind the turning point in the investigations into the ambush of Gustavo Bardellino, which are carrying with them investigations into the internal and external reorganization of the Casalesi clan, where between repentance and arrests it has been created for a while a clear power vacuum for years. And it is always the collaborators of justice who offer the evolutionary framework. In the search decrees that brought the DDAs of Rome and Naples to Formia, we already start from an emerging figure, that of Vincenzo Di Caterino, apparently a minor figure, from Santa Maria Capua Vetere, nicknamed o'piatto, very rich, powerful and unscrupulous to the point to weave a renewed pact with the Bardellino family, expelled from the Caserta area and never readmitted. Di Caterino, on the other hand, only looks at money, to do with car showrooms and drugs. He was arrested last year but in the meantime the pentiti continued to speak.

due to consolidated criminal balances that occurred following the upper hand of the group of Casalesi headed by Francesco Schiavone known as Sandokan, Mario Iovine, Vincenzo De Falco over the faction headed by Antonio Bardellino, with whom a violent confrontation had taken place at the end of the 1980s aimed at the territorial dominance of the association". The Dda believes that since 2019 a new pact has been born between the Bardellinos (especially the cousins ??Calisto and Gustavo), and the rising star Vincenzo Di Caterino, apparently the only one able to digest a rapprochement with the exiled Bardellino . The crimes with the mafia method configured in the search decree would have been committed between Casal di Principe and Formia, including the south of the Pontine as a whole.

Among the pentiti who provided the magistrates with information on the new arrangements is Antonio Lanza, former head of the Bidognetti area. The former affiliate, speaking to the public prosecutor Maurizio Giordano about the role that Vincenzo Di Caterino, alias 'o platter, would have had in the clan, revealed, among other things, links between the underworld of the Aversano countryside and the Roman one: « Di Caterino is an affiliate of the Schiavones and dealt in drugs and weapons for them. Before my last release – Lanza recounted – he carried out extortion together with Vincenzo Cirillo, brother of Francesco known as 'coscia fina' », sentenced to 30 years for the murder of Domenico Noviello. Lanza stated that, between 2021 and 2022, Di Caterino also became close to extra-regional mafia groups: "I learned that he carried out activities related to drugs and weapons also for the Spada, active in the areas of Frosinone and Rome". Bonds that were not shared, however, by Lanza, who for this reason was removed from the fief of the Aversano countryside. Lanza's story, if it were to be ascertained by the investigators, would demonstrate how the Casalesi mafia, especially the one represented by the new recruits, is now willing to relate to other structures with which it would hardly have collaborated until a few years ago. Lanza, alias 'o Piotta, 47, began collaborating with the Naples DDA at the beginning of 2023; in November 2022 he was among the 37 suspects reached by the precautionary custody order of the investigation aimed at dismantling the Bidognetti gangs (of which he was a part) and Schiavone, which had reorganized involving historic affiliates released from prison and new associates. The investigation that brought Lanza into play also involved Di Caterino, accused by the DDA of Naples of having been part of the Schiavone group.

Bardellino investigation: yet another mysterious and disturbing detail on the house in Via dei Pini 7, where the hideout-bunker was found

To be investigated for aiding and abetting with the mafia aggravating circumstance, in the context of the lead raids that hit Gustavo Bardellino on the late afternoon of 15 February 2022 (Luigi Diana and Giovanni Lubello also under investigation for the attempted murder, read the in-depth link highlighted below ) , also the 81-year-old Vito Iacopino , the man who appears to be domiciled in Formia in the apartment in Via dei Pini 7, in the Villaggio del Sole, where the Carabinieri and the Police found the hideout-bunker attributable to the boss Antonio Bardellino , officially killed in 1988, and for which the DDA hypothesizes a different fate: perhaps "Uncle Antonio", the Camorra boss who also swore allegiance to Totò Riina's Cosa Nostra, would never die and would continue to live, going to Formia several times .

Moreover, his second wife, Rita De Vita, with their children, has been spotted several times in the apartment in recent years: most recently on 30 August 2022 when the woman, immortalized by the video surveillance of the complex, entered the villa, despite the stable is still owned by the Italian American Vito Iacopino. The woman turns out to have been the owner of the apartment that once belonged to the manager linked to the Bardellinos, Aldo Ferrucci , the manager of the Formian disco "Seven up", which exploded in 1985 when Bardellino's power was beginning to waver.

Vito Iacopino , born in Palermiti in the province of Cosenza, and residing in Lynfield in Massachusetts (USA), bought the apartment from the children of his brother Antonio Iacopino, who had bought it through a third person (a certain Antonio Nanni, originally from the province Romana) from De Vita and died in a car accident in 1995.

The Italian-American told the Carabinieri in Formia that he had bought his villa in the Villaggio del Sole from "an important criminal whose wife is called Rita De Vita" . Iacopino talks about the sale to the Carabinieri of the Compagnia di Formia after, in the night between 14 and 15 July last, the district of the Villaggio del Sole had been the subject of thefts by thieves: among the houses receiving an attempted break-in there is the villa in Via dei Pini 7 which hides Antonio Bardellino's bunker. In reality, Iacopino's house is at the center of the complex and more sheltered than other more exposed ones.

During the on-site investigations by the Carabinieri, Iacopino, speaking of how he bought the house, refers to the "important criminal". Iacopino bought the villa from this criminal whom he himself met when he lived in the Dominican Republic where he ran a nightclub. Iacopino sold the aforementioned disco in exchange for a lot of money and the property of the "Villaggio del Sole" in Formia. From there he would remain in respectful relations with Rita De Vita , who is still a resident of Santo Domingo together with her children from the founding boss of the Casalesi clan. It is not known at the moment whether her daughter, registered in the Municipality of Formia in 2003, also lives with her, whose father is the non-existent "Marco Bardellino Diana" .

Finally, one last detail that adds mystery to the mystery: the condominium expenses of the villa in Via dei Pini 7 appear to be paid by a man residing in Rome : AT

Hunt for mafioso Antonio Bardellino, the truth on the PCs and mobile phones of 13 suspects
Also under the lens of the yellow flames are pendrives, tablets and CDs

From Giuseppe Tallino-6 October 2023

CASAL DI PRINCIPE– According to the judges who dealt with the Spartacus trial, Antonio Bardellino was killed in 1988 in Brazil by Mario Iovine on the orders of Francesco Sandokan Schiavone. For the public prosecutor Vincenzo Ranieri, however, it is probable that the San Cipriano d'Aversa boss, if he is not still alive now, died many years after the date indicated in the historic ruling on the Casalesi clan. A thesis which, if it were to prove solid, would force investigators (and journalists) to rewrite the criminal history of Caserta over the last 30 years. The work carried out so far by Dia, the yellow flames, policemen and carabinieri, aimed at shedding light on this intricate affair, last July triggered numerous searches in the homes and offices of relatives of the boss, of his historic supporters, who could have had contacts with him after 1988,

For all the material that was seized during those checks, technical and unrepeatable investigations will begin next week. Telephones, computers, pen drives, tablets, CDs and DVDs taken from the homes of Romolo Corvino, Giuseppina Arrichiello (44 years old, originally from Casale but resident in Sulmona), Salvatore Calisto Bardellino (60 years old, from Casal di Principe), Maria Immacolata Bretto (76 years old), Salvatore Bretto (50 years old), Salvatore Bardellino (80 years old), Maria Concetta Caccavale (80 years old), all from San Cipriano d'Aversa, Ernesto Bardellino (55 years old), Calisto Bardellino (58 years old) , and Antonio Bardellino (53 years old), all from Mondragone, Rosa Bardellino (61 years old), Antonietta Bardellino (64 years old, from Quarto), and Gilda Bardellino (58 years old, from San Cipriano).

The analysis activities were entrusted to the section of the fourth group of the Special Unit for the Protection of Privacy and Information Technologies led by Colonel Bruno Pagano. In addition to collecting evidence to demonstrate the fallacy of the thesis of Antonio Bardellino being murdered in South America 35 years ago, the examination of these devices is also aimed at verifying the hypothesized criminal pact that would have been made recently between the Casalesi clan, through those who for the DDA are two of its leading exponents, namely Romolo Corvino (56 years old), and Vincenzo Di Caterino (39 years old), and the nephews of the Bardellino boss who, after the alleged assassination of their uncle, moved to Formia, namely Calisto Bardellino , 53 years old, and Gustavo Bardellino, 43 years old,

I believe it's very possible that he is still alive. Many will laugh and say nonsense but Favoccia said what he said. Why would he say it if it's bullshit? Maybe it is, but in this case it makes sense. I have full faith in Hollander here. He will find him. He will google his way into Bardellino's personal toilet

grin

Immacolata Bretto is the first wife of Antonio Bardellino , boss of bosses throughout the Eighties and commander in chief together with Carmine Alfieri bearers of the mega cartel of the so-called Old Camorra , which federated under the banner of the New Family, to wage a war to the death that left hundreds and hundreds of deaths throughout Campania.
But the surname Bretto appeared very recently in statements by collaborators of justice such as Nicola Schiavone, son of Francesco Schiavone Sandokan , who, in an interrogation said that with the Bretto family the clan had reached a balance , to the point that this peace, this concord closed a central story in the history of the Casalesi clan.

Carmine Alfieri (born February 18, 1943) is an Italian Camorra boss, who rose from Piazzolla di Nola to become one of the most powerful members of Neapolitan Camorra in the 1980s. As boss of the Alfieri clan, he was one of the most influential and powerful Camorra bosses from 1984 until his arrest in 1992.[1] Alfieri's nickname is 'o 'ntufato, the angry one, thanks to the dissatisfied, angry sneer he wears constantly.[2]

Alfieri was born in Saviano, near Naples. The Camorra entered in his life when he was only seven. In 1953, he took an oath with his brother Salvatore, to avenge the killing of their father Antonio Alfieri. Three years later, in 1956, Salvatore Alfieri killed the murderer of his father.[3] In the 1960s Carmine was first arrested. In 1974, he was initiated in the Camorra as uomo d'onore (man of honour). In 1978 he was charged for homicide and in 1981 for mafia association.[4]

In the 1980s he was among the founders of the Nuova Famiglia, which was opposed to the then dominant Nuova Camorra Organizzata of Raffaele Cutolo. The rivalry caused a ferocious war with a huge number of victims, including Carmine's brother Salvatore. The Alfieri clan of the 1980s and 1990s exhibited a hubris and a penchant for wanton violence that compared favorably with Cosa Nostra’s spectacular assassinations. According to police estimates, Alfieri’s killers alone counted as many as 500 murders during the decade 1983-93. For instance, Domenico Cuomo, Alfieri's main hitman confessed to have committed over 90 murders within the same period.[5][6]

Hollander what did Antonio Iovine say about Bardellino when he flipped? Surely he would know the truth?

Only Mario Iovine who (allegedly) killed Bardellino did know, and he has been killed years ago...Probably nobody else knows for sure.

From what I can gather Antonio Iovine and many other major pentiti aren't very helpful. The government expects these guys to bring the whole ship down and they only get peanuts. Good for them.
