I'm pretty familiar with her father Emilio DiGiovine, he was a big player internationally (Holland, NY among other places)

Her grandmother was notorious! Passed away in 2017. Maria Serraino, also called heroine mother, is one of the few women of Ndrangheta to have her role as boss recognized.

The clan ruled the drug trafficking in Milan, Maria had 12 kids with Rosario Di Giovine, a prolific tobacco smuggler. Between 1949 and 1985, he was sentenced 65 times for tobacco smuggling and 23 other violations of the tobacco monopoly rules. In 1963 the family moved to Milan.

It shows how early the clans had established themselves in the Northern Cities of Italy. For a long time I think the Italian government denied they had a Mafia problem up there.

In the early days the state exciled notorious sicilians from the island and often moved them to Milan and other northern cities so in a way they sponsored their expansion.
