Center-right Roberto Lagalla became Mayor of Palermo last month, he's backed by two prominent politicians who have been convicted of helping the mafia. Lagalla distances himself from the alleged mafia connections. And few people think that he is a mafia member himself. But his connections are very sensitive. He may have had a boost, votes have been recruited for him, possibly by people with mafia connections.

The boss Giuseppe Incontrera was shot dead on June 30, which led to the arrest of about thirty people. Incontrera, who, had he not been killed, would have ended up in prison too. He was the cashier of the Porta Nuova clan.

Mafia, the boss of Pagliarelli Nino Rotolo remains at 41 bis: "He has never dissociated himself"
July 31, 2022

He has been at 41 bis for 16 years, but he will have to stay there. The Court of Cassation, in fact, rejected the appeal of the Palermo boss of Pagliarelli Nino Rotolo, 76, against the extension of the hard prison ordered by the Ministry of the Interior.

According to the judges of the Supreme Court, as stated in the sentence, "Antonino Rotolo was for a long time head of the Pagliarelli mafia district, his top role has not changed, the simple passage of time and the state of detention have not changed his role. and function of the same in the organization. Rotolo has never dissociated himself and the criminal group to which he belongs is operational and vital, as evidenced by numerous criminal proceedings. illegal prisoner to the point of having led to the imposition of multiple disciplinary sanctions ".

Basically, there would be no conditions for revoking 41-bis, as the defense had requested. On the contrary, the Supreme Court sentenced him to pay the court costs and 3 thousand euros to the Cassa delle finende.

Anyone here knows when was the last true Mafia murder in Sicily? I'm not talking about some mobster getting killed over a parking spot, I'm talking about an actual mob-sanctoned hit.

But from what I could gather Giuseppe Incontrera was killed over some kind of road rage bullshit, which wouldn't make it a mob hit even if he was a Mafioso.

The latest investigation, revealed the reorganization of one of the most dangerous clans of the Cosa Nostra. The Palermo bosses have now returned to invest heavily in drug trafficking, which they manage throughout the supply chain: from wholesale procurement to retail outlets throughout the territory. The wiretapping again revealed that the Porta Nuova district directly managed six shopping squares, which are located in the historic markets of Capo, Vucciria, Ballarò, but also in the Zisa district, between via dei Cipressi, piazza Ingastone and via Regina.
The action to control the territory has led to more than 200 arrests for mafia and drugs in eight months.
Between 2019 and 2020, Incontrera, the murdered boss, was very active: he managed the top of the district together with his consuocero, Giuseppe Di Giovanni. They controlled the territory in a capillary way: by imposing the lace, new shop openings had to be authorized. Wiretaps also revealed plans for new murders.

Even in Palermo cosa nostra is not what it used to be..

From "soldier" of Cosa Nostra to repentant in just 8 months: this is who the new justice collaborator is
Filippo Di Marco was employed for a very short time in the Borgo Vecchio clan and then, without ever having been even arrested, he asked to speak with the magistrates. A sign that the bosses are also forced to resort to people who then turn out to be unreliable. His statements are contained in the "Vento" investigation against the Porta Nuova clan.

I hate to say it, but to get the rat problem under control they might have to start killing again, there's absolutely no fear. Especially when guys are talking who haven't even been arrested.

Low level ratting , absolutely no fear , street guys are easily replaceable, take a look at stato-mafia trial 2 years ago , 5 people disappeared from witness protection program , they were talking about freemasonry, state , secret service and mafia dealings.

Blitz in the kingdom of Messina Denaro: 35 arrests and 70 suspects
Operation between Mazara del Vallo, Marsala and Campobello di Mazara

by Riccardo Lo Verso

TRAPANI - The sirens of the gazelles of the carabinieri wake up a large slice of the province of Trapani where the Cosa Nostra continues to dictate the law. In a blitz by the Carabinieri del Ros and the Provincial Command, coordinated by the Palermo Anti-Mafia District Directorate, 35 people between Mazara del Vallo, Marsala and Campobello di Mazara end up in jail.

Messina Denaro "is alive"
It is the reign of Matteo Messina Denaro who, so some intercepted suspects say, would have sent the directives to decide the names to be placed at the top of the families. Somehow he still manages to get his communications through when he needs it. "He is alive", said without hesitation one of the suspects.

The strong man of the entire area would become Francesco Luppino, a key figure in the investigation, a faithful friend of the fugitive, who returned free after serving a sentence. The military is carrying out dozens of searches in search of traces of the fugitive. Overall, the suspects are 70.

The loyal Franco Luppino
Luppino has been talked about for over a decade. Starting from the season of the re-foundation of the Cosa Nostra attempted by the Palermo bosses before the “Perseo” operation of 2008 took place.

Benedetto Capizzi, life sentence boss of Villagrazia-Santa Maria del Gesù , then under house arrest in his villa for health reasons, wanted to summon the dome again. He knew that without Messina Denaro's "blessing" his project would not have had the necessary authority. There was a group of dissidents, led by Gaetano Lo Presti, boss of Porta Nuova, who then committed suicide in prison .

Scaduto's hook would have been Luppino. Through him we got to know the opinion of the fugitive who, after initial support, would have made it known that Totò Riina could not be ousted.

Relations with the Palermo bosses
"... while I was there ... I get pizzini as well, meetings they had with Trapani ... tickets that arrived from Trapani ... - said Scaduto - I saw the pizzini too ... I read them ... I recognized the handwriting of the pizzini that come to me ... the same handwriting ... that tells us: 'we do not know anyone., we are firm as we have been', he says' we are in relationships with everyone ... we are available to those in need ... for other things we do not recognize nobody…".

Messina Denaro in that period had started a communication channel with the Biondino di San Lorenzo. "I care", said the Trapani boss, referring to the mafia guide of Biondino who took over from Salvatore Lo Piccolo, arrested on November 5, 2007 together with his son Sandro in a small villa in Giardinello.

The meeting with Lo Piccolo
That day Luppino was expected by the Lo Piccolo for a meeting. He noticed the movements of the policemen and reversed in a Fiat Panda. Accompanying him was Ferdinando Freddy Gallina, a life sentence from Carini, extradited from the United States. Someone speculates that there was a third person aboard the subcompact. That it was even Messina Denaro. The car was followed as far as Campobello di Mazara. There remains the yellow that we reconstruct in another article.

Even today the Palermo mafia when referring to the group headed by Luppino use the phrase "those who belong to Messina Denaro".

The new business
The new investigation, coordinated by the deputy prosecutor Paolo Guido, reveals the mafia power that is based on extortion (including those suffered by the owners of a winery and some hotels), control of contracts, drug trafficking, gambling. The bosses manage security in night clubs and debt collection in a monopoly way.

The carabinieri of the provincial commands of Palermo and Catania, the hunters of Sicily, the helicopter group and the Sicily Regiment participate in the blitz.

Wiretaps recorded a dispute between bosses over the alleged death of Matteo Messina Denaro: "He's alive and well, apologize"

Piero Di Natale and Marco Buffa, among the 35 arrested Today speak of Matteo Messina Denaro. "He is alive and well ," says Di Natale, revealing that he had discussed it directly with Franco Luppino, indicated by investigators as one of the boss's loyalists and returned to prison in today's blitz.

l. The superflatant in a pizzino would also have given reassurances to his loyalists, underlining that he was "here as before, even more than before." And in the pizzino Messina Denaro himself would have sent greetings to a certain «Sandrone», not identified.

«Excuse me ...» Di Natale says to Buffa, accusing him of having told people that the fugitive boss is dead. "He's alive and kicking!"

At that point Buffa, fearing for his own safety, replies to Di Natale reporting that he would go to a third person, who from the conversation would appear to be Franco Luppino, to reassure him that he is not responsible for the news on the alleged death of the fugitive, indicated on this occasion with the nickname of «Ignazieddu».

Di Natale, however, continues to warn him: "You see that the news of this speech has arrived ... do not talk around this fact that you said that he is dead ... because the news has already reached him that ... that there was someone saying that 'Ignazzeddu' is dead ... you see that when it seems that he doesn't get it ... because he always has 7 ... 8 people who inform him ... ".

Actually he has left his territory. Evidence suggests that he has traveled on Mafia business to countries including Britain, Brazil, Austria, and Spain.

Mafia and drugs: the meetings of Trapani bosses in Palermo
Cell phone spy virus reveals some illicit business
THE BLITZ
by Riccardo Lo Verso
1 'OF READING
0 Comments
PALERMO - Until a year ago, Jhonatan Lucchese seemed to be one of the many small Palermo drug dealers . The blitz of the carabinieri in recent days reveals his contacts with some mafia members of Trapani .

Piero Di Natale, right-hand man of the boss and loyal to Matteo Messina Denaro, Franco Luppino , would have played the role of intermediary between Lucchese and Rosario Stallone, a native of Castelvetrano, arrested in the summer of last year.

The men of the Ros and the provincial command of Trapani monitored three meetings between Di Natale and Lucchese, in Palermo. To be precise, in 2020, they met in the Leroy Merlin car park and at a service station near the motorway junction for Partinico.

The spy virus injected into the mobile phones of the suspects has also made it possible to record deliveries of money to Lucchese for the payment of some drug consignments. "A thousand and 800 are they? ... my cousin told you two", said Lucchese referring to Stallone.

Speaking of money and deliveries Lucchese protested over late payments: "You tell him it can't be like this ... tell him: 'You have to be faster if he sends you less ... it can't be ... because I have problems in Palermo ...?".

And it is on the role of Lucchese that the investigations of the Palermo Anti-Mafia District Directorate are now focused.

Giuseppe Auteri has been lost for a year. The Porta Nuova boss left home between 14 and 16 September last year. He became a fugitive from July 6, that is, from the night the carabinieri went to knock on the door of his home and in another 17 during the blitz called "Vento".

For months, however, no one had known anything about him. Not even his relatives and friends who, at least apparently, seem to know nothing. Gone into thin air.

His role, as the magistrates of the District Anti-Mafia Directorate and the Carabinieri of the Provincial Command have reconstructed, had grown a lot in conjunction with the release of Tommaso Lo Presti, nicknamed the long . Auteri would have kept the cash of the district together with another prominent person in Porta Nuova. The first is a fugitive, the second was murdered on June 30 at the Zisa.

"If he had run away with the cash of the district someone would have looked for him to get the money back," whispers an investigator. Why did he run away? He feared, how did it happen, that the investigators were reconstructing his new mafia role, or is there more? The hunt continues.

The lawyer Nico Riccobene shakes off the accusation of having favored the laundering of the dirty money of the bosses. In the first instance the aggravating circumstance of the mafia had already fallen but the criminal lawyer had been sentenced to one year and 10 months in prison. Now the Court of Appeal has acquitted him with full formula because the fact does not exist.

The trial was one of the strands born of the investigation that in 2016 led to Marcello Marcatajo, a civilian and university professor, who died of a serious illness. According to the reconstruction of the prosecutor's office, the bosses Graziano dell'Acquasanta would have cleaned up the dirty money thanks to some professionals.

The Court of Appeal reduced the sentence imposed on Francesco Graziano, son of the boss Vincenzo, declaring two counts of indictment prescribed: from 4 years to 3 years and 4 months. Instead, the 2-year sentence for his wife, Maria Virginia Inserillo, has been confirmed. The positions of Rossella Collura and Giulia Valenti have been prescribed. At first instance they had both been sentenced to two years each. The trial involved several incidents of money laundering through a series of real estate sales.

Sicily candidate arrested for Mafia vote buying
Salvatore Ferrigno charged with paying Cosa Nostra for votes

(ANSA) - ROME, SEP 23 - A centre-right candidate in Sunday's Sicilian regional elections was arrested for Mafia vote buying Friday.
The man, Salvatore Ferrigno, 62, was charged with paying mafiosi to secure votes for himself.
Ferrigno, a former member of Silvio Berlusconi's Forza Italia (FI) party, is now on the Autonomist Popular ticket of former Berlusconi aide and Senate Speaker Renato Schifani, who is running to become Sicily governor.
Also arrested were Cosa Nostra boss Giuseppe Lo Duca and an alleged intermediary, Piera Lo Iacono.
Prosecutors say Ferrigno promised Lo Duca favours and cash in exchange for votes.
This has been confirmed, they said, by phone taps dating from the recent past until a few days ago.
The case is part of a wider probe into Palermo Mafia clans.
Two other centre-right candidates, Francesco Lombardo and Pietro Polizzi, were arrested for Mafia vote buying ahead of April's elections to Palermo city council.
They too were charged with promising to back the clan in question in exchange for votes. (ANSA).

CATANIA - The mafia evolves. It changes. For a (former) boss of the 90s, today's one cannot be called “Cosa Nostra. It has turned into organized crime ”. Even if they call themselves “Santapaola” they do “everything between themselves”, he says. “Before it worked in a pyramid way”, says the man who at one point - almost thirty years ago, when they arrested everyone - found himself at the absolute top. But these remain the statements of a mafioso (convicted of mafia and murders) collected in an interview left in a drawer from before the covid nightmare. But to know (and write) the mafia you have to talk to those who have been inside the system. Who burned the holy card in his hand, promising fidelity to the association, if not he would have ended up burned like that image.

“I don't remember the words of the rite anymore, it's been too long. But more or less it was like that ". Never a name on who was his godfather and who proposed him as a man of honor. “They asked me many times to collaborate but I never did. Yet when they arrested me everyone thought the opposite ”. These are just some passages of a two-hour dialogue, between 'on and off the record'. Friends, education, intelligence. These are words that are quoted many times. But what they slap in the face with a story about the Cosa Nostra family from Catania who killed, harassed, stolen, polluted institutions and businesses in the 1990s. “I am not an angel. And I'm certainly not innocent. I consider myself a retired mafioso ”. He guarantees that no one after prison has approached him to "return". But he is convinced that things work differently today. Before becoming a “man of honor, there was the apprenticeship that lasted for years. Today everyone is a boss ”.

And let's go back to the initial concept. The mafia evolves and changes. But reading the papers of Kronos, Chaos and Agorà - the last three investigations on the Santapaola-Ercolano family - there was an attempt to bring things back in time.It was even decided to entrust the reins to those who had the surname Santapaola. Or to give the card to an expert mafia like Antonio Tomaselli. In the end, the mafia legacy would have passed into the hands of several people, but they too - Turi Rinaldi in particular - in the interceptions speak of resuming the historical extortions. But at the same time there are the new generation who look (too much) to the violent crime of Naples. Young people, for the most part managers of drug dealing squares, who 'claim' belonging to Cosa Nostra and are also capable of killing without thinking about it. And perhaps without even asking for the authorization of the 'old bosses'.

Mafia: CC blitz against Santapaola clan leaders, 30 arrests
'Sangue blu' investigation by the Dda of Catania on Cosa Nostra Etna

(ANSA) - CATANIA, SEPTEMBER 28 - Carabinieri of the provincial command of Catania are carrying out a precautionary custody order against over 30 suspects of the Santapaola-Ercolano clan.

The investigation by the DDA, dominated by 'Blue Blood', shed light on the recent evolutions of the dynamics of the Cosa Nostra Etna's 'family', also identifying its top elements.

The provision of the investigating judge assumes, for various reasons, the crimes of mafia association and external competition, extortion, drug trafficking, illegal possession of weapons and ammunition and participation in the fraudulent transfer of values, aggravated by the mafia method. The operation involves 250 carabinieri from the Etna provincial command who are carrying out the ordinance in the provinces of Catania, Prato, L'Aquila, Enna, Perugia, Vibo Valentia, Palermo, Benevento, Syracuse and Avellino.
