This is a rare event in Europe (or in the western world for that matter).

It has always been a red line for organized crime. You do not kill a politicians, Law Enforcement or journalists. Society does not accept it.

I am sure it's going to be a huge investigation and anyone who has any link to the hit will go down just like it happened these last years in Malta and Slovenia where journalists were killed by the Mob.

Was he working on any particularly sensitive subjects recently ?

I would assume the so called "Moccro Mafia" is behind it given its behaviour (throwing hand grenade in cafés, High profile killings in Holland, Belgium, France, Spain and Morocco...)

Yes he was a personal adviser of the crown witness Nabil B. who's lawyer was killed in 2019.

Several journalists had/have police protection because they report about the Cocaine Mafia, Peter also but it seems today he was alone after a TV show he was pretty noncalant about the threats but what we now see here is an extention of what we see in Colombia and Mexico Holland has become a narco state.

Well whoever is behind it , will get some insane heat after this , but yeah things in Holland are really bad past few years , a lot of criminal groups because of ports. It's just a matter of time they all get wiped out , EU would never allow something like that in Europe.

Good job!

Former lawyer star witness about attack De Vries: 'I don't doubt who is behind it'

Oscar Hammerstein, former lawyer for crown witness Nabil B., is convinced that the attack on Peter R. de Vries has to do with his involvement in the lawsuit surrounding Ridouan Taghi. "I don't doubt for a second who is behind it."

Peter R de Vries assists his friend Peter Schouten, who is the lawyer for star witness Nabil B. in the Marengo trial. Earlier, the brother of Reduan B. and his former lawyer Derk Wiersum were shot dead.

According to Hammerstein, it is inevitable that this attack on the crime reporter also has to do with the Marengo trial. "I don't doubt for a second who is behind it," he says firmly. “Taghi has said that anyone who interferes with his case will be shot. First it was the brother of the key witness, then a lawyer. Now it is about a man who walked out without armor.”

'Big consequences'
Hammerstein is blown away by the news. “In the beginning, people thought it was cowardly that I provided anonymous assistance to the key witness. But in hindsight, I probably got through the eye of the needle. It's the reason I got out of the legal profession. This has major consequences for the Netherlands. In the meantime, I hope the very best for the health of Peter R. de Vries.”

On the evening of the attack on De Vries, the police did not release any information about the possible perpetrator(s). “Now we are busy with the search, trace investigation and of course assistance. Motives and backgrounds only come into play at a much later stage," says a spokesperson.

I thought the same thing , must be connected to Ridouan Taghi and people around him. Still a very stupid move, that can only bring you more harm than good. You can't do stuff like this in EU and get away with it, 1990's are long gone.

Hammerstein called Taghi a psychopath. These guys idolized Toto Riina.

Contract killings are so hard to solve but at least they have good leads now.
Those guys in the Marengo trial have nothing to lose they are already facing life in prison.
Next time it's a judge or prosecutor.

Although Holleeder also has said often De Vries would be killed I don't think he was behind it.

Why was Peter R. de Vries not secured?

The Public Prosecution Service does not want to say whether crime journalist Peter R. de Vries, who was shot last night in Amsterdam, was secured. Colleagues and also lawyers say that he himself did not want security, despite previous threats. A choice of his own because he did not want to be restricted in his freedom.

For example, a local resident told the NOS Radio 1 Journaal that he saw De Vries walking on the Lange Leidsedwarsstraat in Amsterdam almost every evening around 7.30 pm. "If you're looking for him, he's not very hard to find. That he might be protected invisibly is completely untrue. I often see him walking around and then you don't see anyone walking around or following him in the far distance."

According to justice reporter Remco Andringa of the NOS, many people who know him say that he is not protected. "He doesn't want that himself, even though he knows that it involves risks." He did receive occasional warnings from the police that people wanted to harm him.

"Then it annoyed him that he had been told that, but received zero information, so that he didn't really know where he stood. So he chose this, to go through life without security."

According to Jan Struijs, chairman of the Dutch Police Association, another reason to live without security is that it is very important for De Vries that he can go where he wants. According to Struijs, security is "a major obstacle to the way in which he can carry out his work."

“
He believes in his own strength, but unfortunately that turned out differently yesterday.

The Dutch Association of Journalists has also discussed security with him. "He has always said to us: I appreciate your care, but I'll take care of it myself. I'll ring the bell if necessary," says general secretary Thomas Bruning, who calls it typical of his approach. "He believes in his own strength, but unfortunately that turned out differently yesterday."

Could he not have been forced? Not according to Struys. "No, you can never completely enforce that if someone doesn't want it." Frans Knüppe, the dean of lawyers, also calls it difficult to force someone. "I have to respect everyone's free space."

Safe everywhere
"Peter R. de Vries does not intend to organize his life in such a way that he always has to look over his shoulder to see if someone is coming after him," says Peter Wiegmink, who became friends with De Vries when he became involved in the cold case case of De Vries. the Posbank murder. He is the brother of the victim in that case. He sometimes came to De Vries's house and asked him if he felt safe there. "I feel safe everywhere," De Vries told him at the time.

"On bended knee is no way to be free", said Peter R. de Vries in 2016 at the presentation of the Colorful Top 100. "That means that we are not subordinate to anyone, that means that no one can dominate us and that means that we are never 'ever never' anyone's slave." That text is literally made for him, he added while showing the tattoo on his right lower leg to the public.

How strict is their prison regime? If they are able to communicate with outside world and order things like this , there is something wrong there.

Also third suspect is just 18 years old.

I feel no pity for anyone with the wicked and morbidly oppressive State, governments never face any retribution from the people, thank goodness we have organized crime.

Taghi and Holleeder are both in the same Extra Secure Prison, the prison regime is similar to 41bis in Italy.

The Polish Kamil Pawel E is one of the two suspects. Last week he was arrested for a threat in Tiel. He was released on Saturday and returned to the street.

E. has a sole proprietorship and is active as a carpenter, painter and glazier, according to data from the Chamber of Commerce. He had registered with his handyman company on June 4.

The police raided E.'s home at 3.15 am on Wednesday night. According to local residents, the man has two children, ages 8 and 12, and his wife is four months pregnant and speaks only Polish. He speaks poor Dutch, but greeted the neighbors kindly when he took out the garbage, says a neighbor.

I think so they traced the flight car all the way to The Hague area thanks to all the surveillance cameras in Amsterdam and at the highways. Doesn't seem it was too well prepared.

Well hopefully some of these kids agrees to talk , if faced with long prison time , so we can know whole story behind this.
