I'm wondering how this film is. Is it worth buying? How's the acting, story, and production of the movie? Should I just buy the original on DVD? I don't know what to think, although to me personally trailer is not good.

I've had Carlito's Way since it first came out on DVD. Bought Rise To Power yesterday when it came out. Haven't been able to watch it yet, but it dosen't look promising. I'll let you know what I think when I do.

I watched Carlito's Way: Rise To Power last night. Not a bad movie actually. Wasn't great, but it wasn't horrible. If you view it as a stand alone movie, it can hold it's own. If you go into it expecting a great prequil to Carlito's Way; don't. It had none of the same charecters, not even Gail. It didn't lead into Carlito's Way at all. Infact the ending (not to give anything away) didn't end how it should have if it were to lead into Carlito's Way. I'd say they would almost have to make a sequel to it. Otherwise it just wouldn't fit. One thing that stood out for me was the casting of Luis Guzmán who was in the original; in this he plays a completely differant charecter. That was a bad move if you ask me. Personally I was dissapointed in that respect, but like I said it wasn't as bad as I thought it would be. I give it 2 stars.

He said as he gave it away (j/k)

Am I missing something here? This film wasn't released theatrically? Just on DVD? Doesn't say much for it.

well, the producer of the film said how the costs of making the picture as a motion picture for theatrical release would be astounding. They felt DVD format would be perfect medium for a film like this, and they felt a profit could be made. The budget for the film was only 1 million to 2 million. I don't know what to think personally, but average picture costs 40 million to make. In a business logic, it's the right move to make.

I don't mind if it's straight to video, but that shouldn't mean that they should sacrifice good writing and acting and a coherant plot. If they don't make a second one to connect them i'd be dissapointed.

i will buy it when it comes out here.

i love Carlito's Way and always wondered how a prequel/sequel of that one would be. I hoped kinda like GF2, with both a prequel and a sequel in one movie.

You know, a prequel of how Carlito started, him meeting Gail and using that flashback in the movie where he meets Lalin in a restaurant, that would be great if you ask me. And all the ingredients for a sequel were there also. Benny still alive, Gail pregnant of Carlito's child. It could really be an amazing story.

But Rise To Power isnt anything like that, i dont expect much but of course im curious about it.
