I picked my copy up this morning. I hadn't seen this film prior to today. I can see why they called it the best film of the 80s. Because it was. I was blown away. Anyone else picking this up today?

My friend was supposed to pick it up for me today and I won't get it until I go back home on Friday, so I still have to wait a little longer. Man, I can't believe you've never seen it before!

I too have never seen this film and can't wait to watch it. I'll probably pick up the Scorsese box set that this is in within the next couple weeks when I have some spare cash.

Way off-topic of course, as everything which needs to be said already has been...

But for the record, the best film of the 1980s is Blue Velvet (1986/Lynch).

Everything except the trailer.

The whole boxset is excellent, it's a harder dob unlike the other Scorsese one. The prize is definately the Raging Bull DVD.

It's a great set, DSC. They were able to make an incredible transfer, so everything is clear and crisp, especially for a film that's over 20 years old. I've already watched it 3 times since I got it, and I'm not sick of it. The extras are well worth the price of the DVD (the price is a tad more expensive than your average DVD, but its Raging Bull, so it's ok).

It's one of the better Special Edition DVDs released as of late. I can't believe I waited so long to see this film. It's become one of my favorites just over the past few days.

I was reading a little, and found out Vicki LaMotta just died January 25th, 2005 after open heart surgery.

This movie, to much of my surprise, has replaced what has been mt favorite movie for like ever-The Godfather. I had watched Raging Bull a while ago, when I was younger and liked it but didn't really get some of it. Then I saw the movie at the store and decided to pick it up. Well, I watched the movie and was astounded. This is the first movie i have ever watched and proclaimed it as perfect. I still can't believe that a movie actually replaced The Godfather...I'm still in shock.

P.S. Anyone read the book? If so, how was it?

"I never wanted this for you. I work my whole life--I don't apologize--to take care of my family, and I refused to be a fool, dancing on the string held by all those bigshots. I don't apologize--that's my life--but I thought that, that when it was your time, that you would be the one to hold the string. Senator Corleone; Governor Corleone."

The book is good, but not as good as the movie.

Considering how much you like the movie now, I'd recommend the book. You can probably get it used online for a cheap price.

BTW - I HAVE TO get the new release of the DVD. I bought a copy of the regular DVD at Wal-Mart last year and I swear they edited out a few seconds.

I'd love to read the book, mainly to read about his early life and other things the film didn't explore.

Tonight at 10pm on ESPN Classic, they're showing a Jake LaMotta fight.

Havent had a chance to watch the film yet, but so far the extras were pretty good.
