I say yes. He's a great actor, and like he did with DeNiro, Scorsese has taken Dicaprio under his wing and will probably include him in almost every movie he does in the future.

Never

Dicaprio is improving but he is not even close to the top ranking actors of this generation. The two best actors of the younger generation are IMO, Johnny Depp and Edward Norton.

Dicaprio has made a career out of mostly teen flicks with crappy acting. He did average in Catch Me If you Can, improved with Gangs of New York, and a little more with The Aviator, but he is still just ok. I truly wonder why the hell he got a LIFETIME award at 30, especially when he only has three ok/good performances.

Hell no.

Regardless of his teen-idolness, he's been pretty damn awful since Gilbert Grape / Basketball Diaries (when he was great) 'til The Aviator, where he was okay.

De Niro?? Fuck no! :p

I studied Italian for 2 semesters. Not once was a "C" pronounced as a "G", and never was a trailing "I" ignored! And I'm from Jersey! tongue lol

Nobody now or ever to come could be the next Deniro. Few will come close, but one of those few certainly isnt Leonardo Dicaprio. But it does appear that Scorcesse has taken a liking to the man and Im sure you will find the two of them working together again.

Why can't Dicaprio be as good. He's only 30 years old, and already has done some good performances (GONY, Catch Me, Aviator). De Niro didn't do Mean Streets until he was 30. If Dicaprio gets some more good roles, who knows...?

I always wondered why people like him. He is a bad actor IMO, he has two face expressions, equally weird, for all roles. Good roles will not improve such acting. I found him terrible in GONY, and boring in Titanic. When he had some boyish charm teenage girls might adore him because of wide and professional publicity, but now, as he gets obviously uglier, he must prove something with his acting. As now, he proves to be nothing at all. I don't think that good actors were not good actors when they had no good roles. They were always talented, before and after.

Well I used to trash DiCaprio like many of you, but....I've gotten a reality check.

Anyway, who disagrees that "Leo" has improved as an actor since teaming up with the Scorsese?

Besides, its not like DeNiro will be leaving his super-nice paychecks in all those genre flicks anytime soon.....though I would like to see him work with the Scorsese again sometime. I mean who doesn't?

A great actor when under great direction, or when given a great script to work with.

Not De Niro. De Niro was a great actor whether or not he had a great director or script to work with.

NO-ONE CAN EVER REPLACE ROBERT DE NIRO.

When some one needs to be whacked you call Don Leporleone,
When some one needs to be paid off you call Don Leporeloene,
When some one needs protection you call Don Leporeleone....
But when you buy canolis from the bakery you don't share them with Don Leporeleone, what have I ever done to make you treat me so disrespectfully

OMG, POOR LEO!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

You are treating him awfully!!! WHY ON THE EARTH?????

I'd not dare telling he's the new DeNiro, but he definitety is NOT as rubbish as you say!! He was EXCELLENT in both "This boy's life" and "What's Eating Gilbert Grape". He was great in "Marvin's room", "Catch me if you can" and "Gangs of New York".

Or don't you forgive him for becoming a star at such a young age with the planetar hit of Titanic? It was not Leo's fault, after all. The audience decided it. :p :p

Lavinia, Leonardo DiCaprio's fan. :p

I would never marry him. It could just be a overnight affaire and nothing more. He's too young. I prefer being younger, much younger than my hubby!

I'm the wrong one to try to answer this.

Back in the early 70's when I first saw "The Lords of Flatbush", I predicted that Perry King would soon become a household name, since he was the best actor out of that movie. Another one of the cast soon took that honor - someone named Stallone.

Then, in the early 80's there were two young actors that had similar backgrounds and starred in similar roles. Of the two, I predicted Steve Guttenberg would be a big star, but that honor went to Tom Hanks.

I can't see anyone surpassing DeNiro, but who knows?

Q: Is Leonardo Dicaprio the next Robert DeNiro?

Not even close. DeNiro has more talent in his thumb than DiCarprio can ever hope to have.

I gotta say DiCaprio is a lot better of an actor than I would have pegged him for, but the next DeNiro he is not. Yes, he was good in Gilbert Grape, and Catch Me, and GoNY, but I think others could have done a better job, especially in GoNY. Maybe a Jason Patrick or a Colin Ferrel... I dunno, but DiCaprio as a tough guy? Never.

I think Leo is a very good actor. But nobody will ever been De Niro or close to it. I think Leo did a great job in The Titanic which is a great movie. Basketball Diaries was another good performace. This boys life was a another awesome performamce as was The Gangs of New York, although Daniel Day Lewis stole the show. Whats eating gilbert grap was a damn good show of acting.

Like I said though he will never be the next De Niro, nobody will

I hate that everyone is asking this question only because of Dicaprio teeming with Scorsese? Why dont we all start asking ourselves "Is Dicaprio the next Pesci?" While he has noticibly improved from teeneybopper idol days, he is not, nor will anyone ever be "the next De Niro" just the same as no one is/was "the next Brando". There will never be anyone like the greats.

De Niro is in a league of his own.
DiCaprio is not even close.
However,if I have to name the best YOUNG actor right now, then theres no question about it : Ed Norton...the future of artistic cinema.

I agree with that statement 100%. Then again, I happen to be a huge Norton fan...
