1st DVD short review by yours truely:

The Brian DePalma-directed decent popcorn fare that was a big hit at the box-office and got Kevin Costner's leading man career up and running, along with newcomer Andy Garcia some "Hollywood Steet Cred", Sean Connery his comeback, and another memorable performance by Robert DeNiro("There is no I in team!"), and of course got DePalma's career back on track and got David Mamet yet another paycheck. Not to mention an Oscar nomination for the legendary Ennio Morricone.

Anyway, the $9 SE DVD I bought at Circuit City isn't exactly "Special Collector's Edition" worthy, but a good DVD overall. The anamorphic wide-screen and sound transfers are very good, while several featurettes constitute the Special Features section, along with the Theatrical Trailer. All the featurettes basically highlight the main reason for DePalma's and everybody else's entrance into the project, which was to make a commerciable hit film, and how they made it happen.

The DVD, going for $8-10 in many stores in America, is a good buy if you like the movie, and its an upgrade from the old previous DVD by Paramount in the special features/video/audio departments.

We watched that movie in school last week. It was a decent flick. Special edition? I don't know if it deserved a special edition.

I was thinking about buying it when I first heard about it (I already own the original release on DVD), but when I found out that there were hardly any special features, I decided not to buy it. Uusally I buy the special editions (and if this was double disc with some commentary on it, I probably would have gotten it), but I'm starting to get tired of having to buy DVD's 2 times now b/c studios "re-release" them!

Me too, Irishman. I don't understand why these companies re-release them and don't change a thing about them. Except maybe for the DVD menu. I might buy it when it is in a sales bin at the video store.

No I disagree Irish Mafia. This DVD wasn't changed much, but most re-releases are either double disc or a new commentary track or some other types of special features that weren't on the original. Very rarely do they re-release a DVD without adding something! However some studios release "anniversary editions" and I can understand them (Scarface, etc). Usually the quality of picture & sound is better and I'll buy that.

My problem with Brian DePalma, as with other guys like Steven Spielberg, is their refusal to do audio commentaries. I mean imagine such tracks from DePalma on such movies as The Untouchables, Scarface, Dressed to Kill, Carrie, Carlitto's Way, Mission to Mars(just kidding), etc...

Hell its like I bought the SE DVD of Gladiator at a Used DVD shop for $8 the other day because it had the Ridley Scott commentary(and he ususally does good commentaries) so thus I got it.
