Has anyone here seen it? If so, is it good? I think it looks great. I've seen some clips of it on the documentary on the Scarface dvd. I wanted to rent it but I thought that none of the video stores would have it so I decided to wait until the 30th.

Yes, it's good, Riley. A colorful performance by Paul Muni as a Capone-like character, with controversial attachment to his sister. George Raft makes an appearance, with his characteristic flipping of coin. And don't miss Boris Karloff as a rival gangster.

does anyone know if the film (scarface 1932) will be released on DVD AND made available for purchase by itself?

Bart, Is it wrong to steal a loaf of bread to feed your starving family? No. Well suppose you got a large starving family, is it wrong to steal a truckload of bread to feed them? Uh-uh. And what if your family don't like bread, they like cigarettes? I guess thats ok. Now what if instead of giving them away, you sold them at a price that was practically giving them away. Would that be a crime Bart?

Thanks Turnbull, I've seen a clip of George Raft flipping that coin! I'm glad that it is going to be released on dvd. Is anyone here going to be getting it? I know I am

I got around to watching this today and I thought that it was really good. Muni did an excellent job, and so did the others. I liked the similarities between the 1983 version and this one. I didn't think that there would be so many! I give this a 4 out of 5 stars. I recommend it to anyone who has not seen it yet, it's great!

Since we are talking abou the special edition, has anyone seen the special edition VHS? I did not know they had one until I went into an FYE at the mall and I caught a glimpse of it and thought it was the original at first.

Does anyone else think that this film is underrated? It's not on IMDB's top 250, not on AFI's 100 Greatest Movies list (even though I think that it was nominated). I think that it should be on AFI's list because I consider this to be one of the first (and best) gangster films that started it all. Most people have only heard of the 83 version, so I'm guessing that's why it's not on IMDB's list. Any thoughts about this?

All these "Top 100," "Top 250" etc., lists are subjective, as they must be, since the lists reflect people's opinions. In my subjective opinion, "Scarface" 1932 is a fine action film with a dark subplot. But the acting is a little bit too broad for my taste. IMO, "Al Capone" with Rod Steiger is an underrated movie because, despite its "B" characteristics, it contains Steiger's finest performance. IMO, the all-time most underrated great film is "True Confessions" with DeNiro, Duvall and Durning.
