Not sure about underrated, but I recommend, for a "blind" buy, Jackie Brown, Boondock Saints (if it's available), Reservoir Dogs--if you don't have it already and the new Special Edition Once Upon A Time In America.

Besides Sleepers and Once Upon a Time in America (a film I enjoy watching when it is on the movie channels) I say there are a lot of pretty good low budget movies late at night on Cinemax with mob themes that are good. Also I think Bound with Gina Gershon is good and Next of Kin with Patrick Swayzee is good too.

i strongly reccomend Gotti. IT is a made for HBO movie that got little credit, but i loved the film. I just saw it today at walmart for $5.88 and i was pissed off because that dvd should be selling for 14.99 Its a really great buy for that price though.

Also check out:

Getting Gotti (lorrane bracco)
A Bronx Tale (robert deniro
Serpico (al pacino)
The Last Don (1 and 2)

Bart, Is it wrong to steal a loaf of bread to feed your starving family? No. Well suppose you got a large starving family, is it wrong to steal a truckload of bread to feed them? Uh-uh. And what if your family don't like bread, they like cigarettes? I guess thats ok. Now what if instead of giving them away, you sold them at a price that was practically giving them away. Would that be a crime Bart?

A movie that's seldom seen on TV is the 1959 "Al Capone," with Rod Steiger in the title role. The film is nothing more than a "B" movie, and not very good at that. But Steiger's performance is amazing, fantastic, one of the best in his long and distinguished career. He's the best screen Capone ever, and the film is well worth viewing for him alone.

Personally (though maybe I am biased) I think Brit films are under rated.

Good modern Brit underworld films-

Lock Stock and 2 Smoking Barrels
Snatch
Sexy Beast
The Long Good Friday
Love, Honour and Obey

There are others which I forget at this moment!

I mentioned this a while back, but I really enjoyed "Mikey Blue Eyes" with Hugh Grant and James Caan. I'm not big on comedies and this isn't a knee slapping comedy, but kind of cute and funny. It's worth renting if you haven't seen it.
