Just some stuff I came across watching Part III yesterday

Joey Zasa has the same voice of fat tony on the simpsons, does he do the voice for him?

Why do the religous guys carring the statue have KKK hoods?

It seems to me like the movies actually mimic what has happened to the real mob. (I.e. moving out west to the casinos from new york, dieing out, etc.)

It seems to me that Joey Zasa is a rip off of John Gotti.

that's all.

When some one needs to be whacked you call Don Leporleone,
When some one needs to be paid off you call Don Leporeloene,
When some one needs protection you call Don Leporeleone....
But when you buy canolis from the bakery you don't share them with Don Leporeleone, what have I ever done to make you treat me so disrespectfully

That's what I thought too, when they say Joey Zasa is on the cover of Time magazine.

It seems to me that Joey Zasa is a rip off of John Gotti.

Those aren't "KKK hoods." There are two explanations:
1. Since early times, the Catholic Church has had secret or semi-secret societies that may have been pious, but weren't always welcomed by the Vatican for political reasons. So they took to wearing hoods in processions to keep themselves from being discovered.
2. Starting in medieval Spain, penitants have come out to show their penitance during religious processions, like Easter and saints' days. They wear the hoods to protect their privacy and humility--they don't want people knowing that they're sinners, or to think they're parading their piety.
Joey Zasa was a combination of Gotti (sharp dresser) and Joe Columbo (Italian-American society).

I wouldn't doubt that Zaza was heavily influenced from Gotti. Don't forget, GFIII came out in 1990, almost at the height of Gotti's "popularity." Many New Yorkers and Italian Americans viewed (and probably still view) Gotti as a hero. In their eyes, he was a man wrongfully accused of sensational crimes (he had already walked away a free man from 2 trials by that point). Gotti was a complete 180 from the way the old mafioso behaved - he was brash and always looking for publicity, much like a politician. Unlike his predecessors Carlo Gambino, Big Paul, etc., who all shunned the camera and any form of public persona.

I always interpreted the Joey Zasa character as being based on Joe Columbo. Columbo brought much attention to the mob with his Italian American Civil Rights league organization. Columbo would up on the cover of many magazines and newspapers. Columbo in real life, like Zasa in the movie, was accused of not taking care of his people and his neighborhoods when he got deeply involved with his Civil Rights League. The old lady (Scorcese's mother) tells Vincent that he must do something about the neighborhood because Joe Zasa has not taken care of it or it's people. That line in that scene always reminded my of what I heard and read about Joe Columbo in real life.

Five - ten years from now, they're gonna wish there was American Cosa Nostra. Five - ten years from now, they're gonna miss John Gotti.

I'm with DC 100% on this one. Yes, Gotti was one of the influences for Zasa (dapper), but Joe Columbo was the far more public figure. Columbo's Italian American Civil Rights League was the basis of Zasa's "Meucci Society." And despite his high public profile, Gotti rarely if ever gave formal interviews. He loved publicity, but he managed to get it with one-liners peeled off while taking walks. Columbo, on the other hand, appeared on the Dick Cavett show and hosted giant rallies in NY's Columbus Circle.
