Don Vercetti, you are one of the "few lucky" ones who have found the Raging Bull DVD. Because they are releasing a new Special Edition Raging Bull DVD as part of a 5 movie dvd Scorsese Box set.

What others have been saying is that it is "out of print"...I see that you're taking it that they mean that there is no more to be found. What Turnbull and others are saying is that the studio has stopped printing that 1st edition DVD, and all the stores where I live have pulled it from their shelves (as a request from the movie studio) as they did with the Scarface DVDs. And most stores have also pulled it off. I say you are lucky because you found it recently. In fact, Scarface is unavailable but like you, Don Corpuzzi found one at a store a few months back.

I've searched mostly every website for Raging Bull and they're unavailable.

So for Raging Bull fans, don't worry as it will have the Special Edition treatment as will Goodfellas in the Scorsese Box set.

I voted for Raging Bull. From what I've read the valid reasons on why many of you choose Travis Bickle is also due to the terrific script by Paul Schrader. I know...I know...De Niro improvised many things...and he did give one hell of a performance.

The difference to me is that as Jake La Motta De Niro does a lot of it from him as the source, while what's most memorable about Travis is due to the character writing. Don't get me wrong, Raging Bull was also a great script. But, if you just look at it from an "acting" perspective such as Method acting, gestures, taking on the behavior and appearance of the character...Jake La Motta gets the edge by a tiny bit. And as Turnbull said, and I believe also, Brando in "Streetcar..." and De Niro in "Raging.." are the 2 most intense and best performances in film.

This is all moot anyway. It's just my opinion, and I highly respect all of your opinions also! No one is wrong here.

They are probably just being sold in your area by stores that are too stubborn to take them off the shelves.

It was supposed to be released this past November, but I've read that it's pushed to this Spring, but I can't find it on the "Coming Soon" section at IMDB.com

BTW, latest news from The Digital Bits has Goodfellas Special edition estimated to release on 11/TBD (sometime around November).

Being that there is no real indication that a new version of Taxi Driver is coming out yet and since the current Taxi Driver DVD is actually pretty good, you many want to think that over.

Yeah the DVD is great. There is a really nice Making Of piece and a lot of cool extras. It's very well done and the quality of the picture and sound isn't phenomenal but it is by no means sub-par. I rented the movie on VHS at my local video store and bought it. Fell in love, and rushed to Best Buy the next day. I was pleasantly surprised with the DVD quality. I'd recommend it.

The picture and sound isn't that great because it was a very low budget film. They didn't have much cash to work on. And, it's amazing how great it turned out because of that.

Try Wal-Mart. That's where I got mine... For cheap. Less than twenty bucks. And don't forget, it's the collector's edition, so that's a good buy.

From DvdFile.com

In other Warner news, the studio has also begun work on extensive box sets celebrating the works of two of today's most critically and commercially successful filmmakers, Martin Scorsese and Barbra Streisand. The Scorsese collection will include five of the director's top Warner titles, including new special editions of Mean Streets, Goodfellas, After Hours and Who's Knocking at My Door?, while the Streisand set is slated to include such classics as Peter Bogdonavich's What's Up, Doc?, Up the Sandbox and the 1976 remake of Main Event. Both talents will be involved in their respective collections, and with production already underway, watch for more details to emerge next year. As always, stay tuned!

I know better than to start rumors. I read a link a few months ago about a Scorsese box set, but couldn't find it, and MobbingForMoney has just posted a link to the Scorsese news. Back then Raging Bull was slated to be in the box set, but news and plans do change. Sorry if I come off as defensive, but on a board w/ many Scorsese fans...I wouldn't be trying to mess with people, I thought that it wold be nice to spread the joy.
