I read the book, Underboss, I thought it was pretty good. Although, Gravano does sort of brag about the murders. Like in one part of the book, he says something about how if Castellano listened to DeCicco, Gotti, and him, than maybe he'd still be alive. I thought that was kind of cruel to say. His saying that, bothered me. Also he kind of praises Gotti through out the book. He did not really convince me that he hates John Gotti.

I'm READING Boss of Bosses on Castellano NOW! I'll read Underboss later and compare the two!

I think Gravano is a snitch!

"I killed 50 guys but I'm gonna whine about who TOLD me to them ,and I'l egt 2 years in jail" Poor me!

SHut the FUCK up! (Not yOU, GravanO)

When does Henry Hill's book, come out?

IS there a Henry Hil book?

Gravano and Bonanno have books out.

There;s my Castellano book.

Pileggi wrote the books that Goodfellas and Casino were based on.

Is there a Gotti book?

WHen will there be a Sicilian Mafioso book?
I want to read the Lucinao autobigraphy!

I guess these guys NEVER heard of Omerta lol.

Underboss is a ok book. Its not the best thing I ever read. As of right now Im reading two books "Serpico" and "The Hoffa Wars" those are good books.

Ricardo, I like your impression of Gravano. That's exactly how he acts. I'm going to forewarn you that in his book, he blames almost everything on Gotti. That's not very nice! It's sad that two people who were almost like family to each other, could turn against each other like that! I will say that he does continously praise Gotti about everything too. So he gets kind of confusing when you read his book. One minute he talking bad about Gotti, the next minute he is talking about how Gotti was the only true gangster besides himself. Anybody else think that maybe he was doing that to make sure that when Gotti read the book, he would not get too mad? There is something interesting about the book, Gravano is talking about how Gotti, Frankie Loc, and him are waiting for their trial, well Gravano and Frankie Loc were talking about how when they get out, they will kill Gotti. I know Gotti was kind of mean to Frankie Loc when they were in prison and he critize Gravano on the tapes, but is that really a good reason to kill him for. Since I did read that Gotti read the book, I wonder what he thought?

Ricardo,

Henry Hill's book entitled Wiseguy by Nicholous Pileggi came out years and years ago. I couldn't tell you when, maybe late 80's or early 90's. I've never read it so I can't comment on it but i'm sure i've heard good reviews about it. I'll get round to reading it one day.

Thanks. If Goodfellas came out in 1990, and it was based on WIseguys, I'd assume late 80's. IMPOSSIBL:E in 90's. I heard 1987 someplace.

Thanks, any info on the others?

I agree, John H. Davis is one of the best authors. I read the books Mafia Dynasty and Kennedy Contract, those were the first two "Mafia" books I read. Reading about his encounter with Luciano in Mafia Dynasty, made me like Luciano. I felt bad for Luciano because he tried to do legit business, but went back to illegit business. The reason being that the government thought his legit business was smuggling drugs into the USA. The government checked out the business and could not prove that it was illegit. So they made him stop his business. That's confusing!

This is the time were Lucky Luciano went back to Italy and wanted to start a new life by going into the legit business but the italian government won't believe him . . .

I finally saw the movie, Witness To The Mob, I thought it was pretty good. I didn't like that he tries to blame everything on Gotti. He complains about how Gotti got him into the mess, which is true, but Gravano pretends to be the victim. It just bothered me that he would act that way. I guess some people never change. I did like the part at the end when it was supposed to Gotti in prison talking about Gravano and Gravano in Arizona (the state that, according to him, belongs to him) talking about Gotti. It's sad how their friendship ended.

"Underboss" was a good read, despite being hypocritical. Gravano ridicules Castellano for being a mere "racketeer," while he and Gotti were honest-to-goodness "gangsters." Then he reprints every complementary word Castellano ever uttered about him. Then he denounces Gotti. Killed 19 people, including close friends and relatives, because he's a real "mafioso." Yeah, a real SS storm trooper ("I vas ohnly obeying orders"). Jerk.
Plenty of books about Gotti, including "Goombata," which isn't bad. Organized crime books generally can be good page-turners but are seldom authoritative or deeply researched because gansters generally aren't the types to write autobiographies (except sanitized ones, like Bonanno's, which is still a good read) or leave their collected papers to some university for researchers to peruse. Two excellently research books I recommend: "Little Man," the Meyer Lansky biography by Robert Lacey, and "The Black Book and the Mob" by Farrell and Case, which is the best book extant on Nevada and gangsters.

I think he tries to add compliments about Gotti because he knew eventually Gotti would probably read it. He knew Gotti would be extremely mad at him (like already isn't  ) if he only put bad things. He acts like he is a saint or something. I still can't believe he killed his own family member. That sickens me.

Well it wasn't a blood relative. Just doind his job really. I can't remember what relation it was to Gravano though. It was something like his wifes brother or his brothers sister in law, or something......Help me out Rusty, Eddie, Fannuci or Turnbull. Or anyone else that knows.

I know that it was probably the truth, but why does John Gotti still listen to Gravano? Also in the book, it seems to me like he is trying to make it sound like it was all Frankie Loc's idea. I guess he really is trying stay on Gotti's side. He would not testify against Gotti's son, and he said he did not want to put Gotti's son in prison. If he did that Gotti would really be mad at him.

Speaking of Luciano, i saw Bella Mafia advertised for the first tiem when bought The last Don, loks like my next in line .

I read in yesterdays paper that Goti is near death and is unable to talk due to a tube in his throat.

Isn't "Gotti close to death" the same headline that's been going around for 3 years?

I kind of feel bad for Frankie Loc because Gotti and Gravano have kind of teamed-up on him. Gravano making comments about Frankie Loc wanting to kill Gotti. Claiming that it was all Frankie Loc's idea. Gravano probably wanted Frankie Loc dead, so he put that comment in the book. Then Gotti would read it and want Frankie Loc dead. Poor Frankie Loc, caught in the middle of their fued with each other. Personally, I think that Gravano and Gotti were communicating with each other somehow! I haven't figured it out yet.
