i saw this movie a few days ago and it amazed me, i later found out that it received no academy awards. I cant believe the academy would ingnore such a great movie, it had powerful acting and it just pulled you in. Taxi driver is on my top 10 favorite movie list, its in my dvd collection, but no awards. Yes i am talking to you, dont look in the mirror and ask if i am because i just answered you i am talking to you

A great movie indeed. Jodie was so talented at such a young age. Robert De Niro is so talented that he adlibbed the mirror scene. It deserves being in the top 100 movies of all time by the AFI.

Yes the famous line "You talkin to me?" is in it. Try renting it first to see if you like it I suggest renting it on DVD because of the extra features.

What happens at the end of Taxi Driver? the video I have of it is messed up. the last bit I see is where DeNiro killed all the people in the pimp house, and the cops have come in and point a gun at him. the he puts his finger to his head and goes bang bang. What happens next?

Michael Corleone - if anything in this world is certain, if history has tought us anything, its that you can kill anyone.

Finally got the DVD. It is si worth every penny. Amazing Making Of documentary and facts in the photo gallery. Loved the effects part on the bloody scenes

Truely an amazing film. I can really relate to the main theme. I loved every scene becaus of the acting, script and camera angles. I'm moving it to my top 5 best movies, hehehe. Travis Bickle is a memorable figure. A character split into 2, devilish on the outside and a saint in the inside

I thought it ended thus : We see newspaper and it says something like 'Hero recovering in hospital' - I always thought this was merely of how Travis interpreted the events ie by seeing himself as a hero. It was not supposed to reflect reality.
Ironic take on the whole episode. Que pensez-vous ?

This is excatly the way I persevied the 'hero' events at the end, as Travis sees things, this is what he wants to happen...

Travis is metally ill and greatly unstable. He wants to meet people and sees himself as a sort of 'peoples hero', who is out there to save those who need it from the scum of the streets...

See the opening of the taxi coming through the white smoke/smog? Not only does it portray the dirtyness of NY, it also seems to represent Travis as a hero emerging from the mist or hozizon, like the stranger or hero in the western films. Also, see how DeNiro's name is in red on the credits, while all others are in yellow?

Anyway, I have no doubt that the ending was all in his mind. Being a public hero and meeting Betsy again and all, this is what Travis thinks should happen, but theres no way it could in real life...

Great film...

Good insight, Noledge! Yous got quite an eye on yous! The only thing I might slighty disagree with is Travis' being mentally ill if you mean he's like "totally whacko." I DO think, yeah, he's definitely got somethin' loose upstairs, but I think more in the vein of simpletons; kind of like Rain Man with a magnum! But what I loved most about Taxi Driver was the dual nature of Travis, and how he was a "walking contradiction" (Cybil's label for Kris Kristofferson). I think it explains a lot of us (or maybe just me?!?!). We see scum and despise it; then we get off watchin' porno (or whatever)--just like Travis! Then we feel guilty about how we are, we direct our disgust for ourselves toward the scum, and the whole cycle starts over! "Not real life"? I dunno, it hit pretty close to home for me (or am I totally whacko?
