Anyone else love this movie? The fight scenes where superb - well choreographed, great direction. And this si one of DeNiro's best acting moments - one of the greatest films ever - agreed?

Spelling correcions aside , interestingly enough I heard Martin Scorcese mention that his decision to film Raging Bull in black & white stemmed from his frustration at the lack of attention to film preservation at the time. Apparently it is far more difficult to preserve color prints, and parts of the film that WERE shot in color are now faded, according to Scorcese himself.

I rate "Raging Bull" right behind the GF saga on my top ten list. DeNiro's absolute best, most intense performance. Plus, Pesci's debut.

What I love about Raging Bull is its realistic dialogue (such as in the early scene where we see Joe Pesci walking down the street with the other guy toward the apartment) and its great LOOK: it really looks like it was filmed in the Forties. The way they made the girl (whose name slips my mind at the moment) actually look the way women looked back then is amazing. It's something you rarely see in movies. Characters in a period movie, especially the women, tend to appear as they do now except that they're wearing old clothes. Of course, De Niro is terrific, especially the way he transforms himself (he gorged himself on pasta and ice cream) as LaMotta gets older and fatter.

I saw this movie for the first time last weekend and I don't think it was as good as everyone makes it out to be. Its a good movie, yes, but not one for me to bow down and offer sacrifices to.
