Excellent. A good and polemic look at the infamous Borgia family. Good narration and situaitons.

It has several incestuous scenes, though. I f you didn't liked the Vincent-Mary affair you should skip those scenes.

Um, duh. The Family doesn't have a film. I don't know what you're talking about.

Lucrecia Borgia falls in love with brother Cesare. And there are some sex scenes of both. This was real.

You have misunderstood Don Giorgio Gambino. I'm pretty confident he's referring to the novel The Family too. There's some incestuous goings on in the book and he uses the example of Godfather III's Mary and Vincent relationship as a comparison.

Anyway, the book seems to get mixed reviews. Some people can't get into it, others like me find a pretty good read. Although as my 5th grade teacher always taught me, a book should have a beginning, a middle and an end. The Family, to me has no such direction. That aside though, yeah it's good and opened my eyes to the Renaissance period of history.

the family is about cardinal rodrigo borgia or pope alexander IV's family. Its set in the time of the renaissance and is masterfully written by sir mario.
here are my comments:
pope alexander IV isnt that subtle and impassive as don vito. also he is not that composed as don vito. He would brag about his wealth, unlike don vito who keeps himself in the datk concerning obvious wealth display. as in the book the godfather, don vito said that the family in chicago are primatives. I think pope alexander is like a don in chicago. but duarte or sir edward(i forgot the correct spelling) is an excellent consiglieri, much better than tom hagen. He is a cunning war time consiglieri.
i'm sorry for being so opinionated, but that is what i think and feel about that.

I really enjoyed reading the book. I realized that the Roman Catholic Church was, and still is, very powerful. The Church had the capability of waging wars (Holy Wars), excommunicate kings, crown rulers, cannonize anyone to be a saint, and be able to tell who can and cannot enter heaven. Imagine the story of "The Family" as a Mafia Church

I must confess I bought The Family last year but have not gotten around to starting it until recently. I'm about halfway through it at the moment and am enjoying it immensely. I knew nothing of the Borgias prior to starting the book (apart that they were a powerful medieval Italian dynasty) and find the history and myth fascinating as told through Mario and Carol Gino.

I will update this post when I have finished with it.

I must admit that while the book was informative, I found it to be very boring. jmho.

i had read somewhere that someone had bought the rights to make the movie of the family. does anyone know if that's still on? and who may be directing or acting in it?

i'd love to see ffc or scorcese try their hand at it.

I still have 6 of his books left to read. i read the Godfather (of course) The Sicilian and The Dark Anera. I have a question about the Dark Anera. At the end does he kill himself or just give up?
