Oliver Stone is set to direct another movie based on the 9/11 terrorist attacks on America following his recent film World Trade Center. The director's next film, Jawbreaker, will focus on America's response to the terrorist attacks with the invasion of Afghanistan and hunt for 9/11 mastermind Osama Bin Laden. The script will be based in part on a memoir of the same name by Gary Berntsen, the Central Intelligence Agency's point man during the invasion and the man who coordinated the efforts of the CIA and Special Operations Forces to end Taliban rule. Stone secured the rights to the book months ago and kept it a secret so that World Trade Center could open unencumbered in the US and overseas. He says, "We've been discreet because we didn't want World Trade Center to be affected unnecessarily by political bulls**t about Afghanistan." The Platoon director said the intention of Jawbreaker will be to create compelling drama, not spark political controversy. He adds, "I'm not looking to make a political movie, but it always seems to come down to that with me."

All I know was, considering the talent that Stone can be as a director, to call his WORLD TRADE CENTER a cinematic disapointment is an understatement. Really, he's not even the innovative ass-kicking filmmaker with a take on 9/11, for Paul Greengrass took that title and ran for the touchdown with UNITED 93.

Funny enough, I had heard that in his effort to get back into the good graces of Hollywood after the super-debacle of ALEXANDER, he's doing more studio fare, which I don't blame him. Money is good. But yeah, hes trying to push a romantic comedy now. I shit you not!

But hey, at least Stone is still working, and not blackballed permanently from Hollywood, like Michael Cimino was after HEAVEN'S GATE.

P.S. - Stone is getting a 3rd shot at re-editing ALEXANDER, now to a 220+ minute edit. Could he turn an interesting failure of a mess into a workable film? Stay Tuned!

I remember loving JFK. Going along with its politics is another thing, but I find (or found) it an energetic, wonderfully-edited film with some incredibly complicated sequences.

I concur.

But anything else by Stone? Not so much.

I also remember liking Platoon. :p

But I haven't seen anything else from him, apart from Natural Born Killers.

Wow, DJ conceeded....you know, you're cutting and running! You're allowing the terrorists to win!

:p

Besides, Stone was a pretty good director before his career went to hell.

Hell, NIXON is pretty damn underrated, and probably his best-made movie.

I don't want realism. I want magic! Yes, yes, magic. I try to give that to people. I do misrepresent things. I don't tell the truth. I tell what ought to be truth (Blanche/A streetcar named desire)
