For now at least. He is undergoing surgery for gastrointestinal bleeding. Many speculate that he is dead, due to the fact that information from the Cuban government has been sparse. (No surprise there.) I doubt anything will change in Cuba, until Raul Castro's death, which is not too far off anyway.
Hey, how's it going?

I've already got my champagne on ice, though I doubt that the Cuban media (controlled by Castro anyways) would have released anything had he not already been through the surgery successfully.
It doesn't really matter. Both he and Raul are octogenarians (or near it, Raul is 75 I believe) and will be heading off to the big collective in the sky. Time will do what President Kennedy and US intelligence could not - kill Castro.
Elation is the word out of Miami, as all the refugees and immigrants in Little Havana have been tweaking since they heard the news last night. I can't imagine what would happen if the entire Castro regime would fall in Cuba...wow. Those poor people would finally be free again from Castro...libertad indeed.
I wonder how one of our BB members feels about this, since I know he has spoken many times on how great Castro (and his former partner in crime Che Guevara) was and all the magical, wonderful things he did for his people...unfortunately, he hasn't been around here lately (kind of like Castro, it seems).
Oh well. Get your booze ready. This is a party almost a half century in the making.

Is this like Michael turning over control of the family to Tom?
Or is it more like turning over control of the family to Fredo?

its more like vito turning power over to sonny. His brother is crazy he is twice as worse as Fidel but not as smart as Fidel. My grandmother told me a story that the night Fidel took over Raul(fidels bro) wanted to kill random ppl in the streets of Habana thank god Fidel stopped him. But Rual is crazier than Fidel and is power hungury if you ask me.

Castro's been around so long it seems he should be 120 by now. :p I know he came to power in my lifetime, but to be honest I couldn't even tell you who the leader of Cuba was before him. I'm already reading reports that he actually died and they are trying to cover it up. The guy is old, and although I don't know his true medical condition, I think it's safe to assume his days are most likely numbered. TIS
