It's now official: last Thursday my dad went up to Des Moines to outprocess for guard, making it his last day in the active military. He's been in for about 23 years and is ready to retire. For the first six years of his career, he was in the army, full time. Soon after he enlisted (when he was 19) back in '83, he went to basic training, and then to South Korea for a few years while my mother stayed in Fayetteville, NC, at their home in a trailer court near Ft. Bragg.

After my dad finished his first six years of active duty, he transferred to the Air National Guard so he could get serious about a career, thus going to college for public teaching.

Now, he's made his way from teaching, to guidance counseling (he has his principal license, keeping his eye out for a job in the area), and retired as an E-8 (Master Sargeant).

He worked the 132nd Ammo in the F-16 Viper unit (they basically build the bombs and missiles to put on the jets).

Anyway, just wanted to share. Below is a picture of their logo:

"Conformity is the jailer of freedom and enemy of growth"-John Fitzgerald Kennedy

My father was in the military, and my husband was in the military, and of course in the 60's/70's I knew many who were in the military, but none that were lifers. Takes a special "drive" I think.

A well deserved 'cheers' to your father Tony Love!!!!

Thank you to all of you. I (as well as my father) appreciate your recognition!

I, too, TOTALLY commend your dad for his accomplishments!

But I gotta wonder... the Vice Principal in my middle school was a sonofabitch hardass mafugga! I hope your dad doesn't instill LIFELONG FEAR into his students!!!

I studied Italian for 2 semesters. Not once was a "C" pronounced as a "G", and never was a trailing "I" ignored! And I'm from Jersey! tongue lol
