With Geary in Fredo's Brothel
I saw this movie over the weekend, and I have to say it is one of the best pictures ever made. There were nine ways to Sunday they could have screwed this up, but they really captured what went on during those first shocking hours of 9/11. It was filmed more like a documentary than a movie, and because they used real flight attendants and air control people etc., and unknown actors, it had a feel to it that debunks the claim that this was merely some kind of film exploiting the 9/11 tragedy.

Anyone else see it or have thoughts?

"Io sono stanco, sono imbigliato, and I wan't everyone here to know, there ain't gonna be no trouble from me..Don Corleone..Cicc' a port!"

"I stood in the courtroom like a fool."

I saw this film as well, and it was fantastic. The reason that the liberals keep saying that it's "too soon" for a film like this is because it WILL remind you that there is still an enemy out there that we are fighting, the threat of terrorism is still there. I can attest as an eye-witness that there were people cheering in the audience when the passengers struck back at the terrorists...hell I was one of them, cheering on the passengers on the screen, even though we all knew how it was going to end. Those people understood what we are fighting for. It is not "too soon"; by the time the liberals say it is ok, then all may sadly be forgotten. Pearl Harbor, Vietnam...these were touchy subjects too yet films were made about them in a lot quicker time than United 93 was from 9/11. Never forget.

What do you think this is the Army, where you shoot'em a mile away?

Oh, please. Shut up about liberals this and liberals that. It's a people thing. Many people are saying that's it's too soon. Not just liberals or conservatives. Look past the politics for once, 9/11 didn't happen to Liberals or Conservatives, it happened to everyone.

I really want to see this film. So far from what I've read, it's gotten a really positive reaction.

Also, I seriously doubt anyone will be forgetting 9/11 anytime soon.

Hey, how's it going?

There's a thread already about this. And I reviewed it in the Movies thread.

Great film.

I havent seen the film yet, but I definitley want to as soon as I have time. God bless the passengers on Flight 93... What do you think would have happened if they actually overtook the terrorists and took control of the plane??

Or for that matter...if there were any survivors on any of the flights hijacked that fateful september morning?

I went to see it this morning. it's not often I feel a little uneasy/unsettled before going to see a movie, but I kind of was.

I immediately got a chill in the very beginning of the film , when you see no picture, but hear foreign voices which are obviously those of the terrorists. As the picture appears, you see they are praying. (edit: just the thought of terrorist and prayer sends chills down my spine)

As someone mentioned earlier, the first hour or so is mostly on the ground showing the chaotic confusion at air traffic control. How they were surprised that there was a possible plane hijacking, not really believing it was so at first, and then horrified to find there were four.

What I liked about this movie (considering the unsettling subject matter), is it was not an elaborate, starstudded, overblown spectacle. All of the actors were unkowns; and all the characters were like you or me or John Doe. Oh, and even the famous line that I believe was said by Todd Beamer, "Let's Roll", was not said in such a way to give the movie a tagline or overemphasized.

A few observations:

1. The hard "not to get choked up scenes", as you might imagine include the phone calls the passengers make to loved ones. Your heart is totally with all of them.

2.The shock of the passengers and crew when they know what's going to happen. For the viewers like myself, you do feel at least a small sense of the terror they must have felt.

3.It "seemed" they did justice to the characters, as far as not portraying one character as any more of a hero or any more important than another.

4. When they decide that they simply had to do something, terrified or not, came together and tried to break into the cockpit. Again, your heart is with them.

Now it's hard to say if 911 had never happened and a fictional film like this was made, how the viewer would respond. But knowing it did happen, it's hard to think negatively of it IMHO.
