Wow.

That's horrible. I hear about shit like this everyday in the news because I live 10 minutes from Detroit. There is so much rampant racism going on, it sickens me. Not to mention that fucking douchebag, gangster mayor running the city, Kwamye Kilpatrick. I thought the Superbowl would help to revitalize the city, I was wrong.

I saw this on the news stations yesterday. The nerve of the Operator Union rep saying what if this woman had 5 prank calls prior to this one. WTF!! No where in that boy's call did it sound like it was a prank. You hear stories all the time of hero kids, some younger then him, who saved their mother's lives by dialing 911. This woman should be fired in my opinion. I feel for the boy. He did what his mother probably taught him to do, and he got yelled at for it. My heart goes out to him.

And if it WAS a prank call, she should've still sent out someone to the place, to at least teach the kid a lesson if it was a prank call, IMO.

The second 911 operator did threaten to do that. He called twice.I would have said, "Please send someone out here. That's what I've been asking you to do". It makes me very leery about calling 911 for anything. This is not just a 9-5 job you take for a paycheck. People's lives are at stake here. Every call should be treated with that kind of urgency.

I can't believe that operator hasn't been fired yet. The horror those children went through seeing their mother die and nothing was done to help her out.

My daughter called 911 once when she was 2 or 3 years old, and then left the phone off the hook. I had no idea she had done it. The police showed up at my house within minutes (scaring the hell out us, btw). I've also accidentally dialed 911 when trying to call overseas since 011 is the number for international calls, and hung up when realizing my mistake. The 911 operator has called back within seconds. Not sure what kind of 911 system they have in place in that community, but God bless that poor little boy.

Nicole did the same thing when she was about 3. The cops knocked on my door and asked me what the problem was. I said, "How should I know, you came to see me".

With all your similarities you sure Nicole is not really your long, lost daughter?

Ugh, that's awful.

That is just awful. They had on MSN this afternoon a representative from the 911 office where the call was made (not the woman who took the call). According to her there had been several "prank" calls made from the same street that day (I assume when you call they must have caller ID or something?),and it was assumed it was another prank.

In my opinion, they simply have no choice but to follow-up on these calls. I don't know if there is, but perhaps there should be some large fines issued to the parents of children who pull these pranks. As far as accidently dialing 911, or if a child does it, as mentioned, I'm not sure how that would be handled because those things do happen.

The poor kid was only doing what he was taught to do and nobody believed him, and he loses his mother. What a shame.

I think the operator is an asshole for the actions. Even if it was a prank, it should've been responded to, and the person should be punished.

I however, disagree with the racial angle people seem to aiming for. The news today even showed two white kids who did the same and saved their mother, one a boy and one a girl, and then show this kid as if there's supposed to be a subtle contrast in the back of our minds.

Hey, that's Detroit. The most well run city in the US.
