"Best of youth" (Italy, 2003) apparently tops "New York Times" film reviewer's top ten films list for 2005! Boy, I'm SOOOO happy!!!! Believe me, this is a great movie! I must confess I never thought the American audience could be interested in a strictly Italian story, so this is really good news!!!

I hope you'll manage to watch it (beware: it's a VERY long movie! but it's worth it all) either in the theatres or on DVD. And then please, let me know what your thoughts are.

Lav, I've not heard of this film.

Have you seen The Consequences of Love? It was the box-office hit this summer at my local arthouse cinema, and they kept it on for a re-run. Alas, I mixed it, but it's showing again, as a one-off, as part of the upcoming "Cinefesta" season.

More details about that season here .

I was watching Charlie Rose a week ago and several of the critics on the show declared this among the best of the year. It sounds very good.
I'll look for it on DVD.

Search for the DVD, Capo. I'd be very interested in your opinion, I'm sure you'll love this film!

Yes, an outstanding movie. Somehow disturbing. A mysterious, intriguing, dark, silent atmosphere. And a great performance by Toni Servillo, the leading role. A must see.

Il Postino The Postman Michael Radford; 1994 WATCH IT!!!!! A splendid movie. An outstanding performance by Massimo Troisi, just before he died at about 40 of heart disease. He is so missed.

La dolce vita The Sweet Life Federico Fellini; 1960 - Otto e mezzo Eight and a Half Federico Fellini; 1963

I'm sure you already watched these movies. If not, go watch them. I'm not a great Fellini fan, but I guess you should watch anyway.

Io non ho paura I'm Not Scared Gabriele Salvatores; 2003 A great movie! Watch it, Capo!

Il Gattopardo The Leopard Luchino Visconti; 1963
A masterpiece. A great Italian history fresco. An awesome Burt Lancaster, a delightful young Claudia Cardinale, a most attractive young Alain Delon and a superb wedding ball scene F.F. Coppola must have kept in mind while shooting Connie's wedding in the GF.

If it's 2003, why would it be 2005? Did it just get released?

AAt 400 minutes, it will probably be the longest film I've watched. (if I get a chance to see it)

Yeah, Lav, I've seen the two Fellinis, and own La dolce vita. I'd like to see both again on the big screen, but the cinema isn't the most cheap around, and I'd much rather save the money to ensure I see Consequences of Love. I have Death in Venice lying around somewhere among my mountains of unwatched films.
