An expected all-time low as regards films for me; I'd decided not to write a list, and buy them myself in the sales.
Nonetheless, a few surprises: Films: In the Mood for Love Suspicion Playtime
Music: FabricLive 21 - Meat Katie Ghost Dog The Way of the Samurai original soundtrack
Lots of lovely new clothes. Hoodies, combats, bomber jacket, denim jacket. And smellies.
A making of Taxi Driver book; film quiz book (upon a glance, it's rock hard); film facts book.

I get like 4 or 5 presents each year and that's it. My extended family only buys presents for my grandmother, the Matriarch of the fam. In turn, she gives everybody 50 dollars, which everybody vehemently tries to decline. Always fun to watch them argue in Arabic. As for me, here's what I got: 1. Glengarry Glen Ross DVD (never seen it before, huge surprise when I opened it ) 2. The Deer Hunter DVD 3. The Doors (Oliver Stone) DVD (Never seen that before either...my parents rule ) 4. Burberry Cologne (the best smelling cologne EVER) 5. Clothes - Nice black Calvin Klein sweater, and a Perry Ellis short sleeve polo. And of course, 50 big ones from my Situ (grandma), which I plan to spend on some CDs. Good Christmas this year.

I think Patrick wins, with just that first item! 1) Table-top poker table thingy 2) Metal case of poker chips and cards 3) One of those CD-Cassette-LP-Radio "retro" units, which is gonna be awesome cuz my old record player doesn't work 4) Tiger Woods' book on how to play golf 5) Some clothes I personally picked out a few weeks ago - cuz I have to pick them out, otherwise, I'd have to go back and return them anyway.... lol 6) 2 Scarface posters, the ones designed with the words from the film creating the images 7) Some spending money (unfortunately going straight to bills! ) But all in all, I had a great Christmas with friends and family I love, so there you go. That's what it's really about.

Apple, great idea! And you are so right. I won't deny that I enjoy getting gifts, but it is so fun to give people things. I can't afford to buy very fancy presents, but I always try to find something that I think people will like. I used to go nuts trying to find the "perfect" gift for everyone in my family, in addition to the gifts that my close family gave to our relatives, and my mom would always tell me to just go along with the joint gift and let that be enough. I've started to bake cookies for my family and friends, now, and I still give gifts to those closest to me, which works out well. Here's what I gave this year... To my mom: - Charlie and the Chocolate Factory DVD She also got this for me, but she found out from my dad ahead of time, so she returned it...we thought it was so cute we had identical ideas! - Purple soft socks She always buys me socks and never gets any for herself. Also, purple is her favorite color.- Pens and a rain gauge She asked for them. - A bag of chocolates To my dad: - National Lampoon DVD I actually got "caught" in Wal-Mart trying to buy it at the self check-out but being under 17...luckily, the lady let me "slip by" since my dad was there with me!- Trapped in Paradise DVD Not sure how good it'll be, but we like Jon Lovitz's voice and Dana Carvey as Garth.- Ray Charles performance DVD We both love Ray!- A bag of chocolates To my brother: - An official Red Ryder...I mean, a quesadilla maker! He loves quesadillas, and this cooker is easier than making a frozen pizza, so I think he can handle it. - A Napoleon Dynamite keychain with sound clips from the movie - A light that can clamp on to something, for use in his truck To my cousins: - Kip and Pedro talking dolls, from the Napoleon Dynamite movie To the rest of my family (aunts, uncles, grandparents): - Cookies that I baked!

SB, I love baking sweets. I haven't gotten into general cooking much, but I've acquired my interest in baking cookies and such from my mom, and I suppose her mom, as well. I made chocolate chip and butterscotch cookies this year, along with molasses for my brother, but my specialty is making tea cake cookies, which are cut-out cookies with icing. The recipes for the cookies and icing were both passed down, and my grandpa apparently was able to remember the icing recipe from when his mom made it, so we still use it! I've made them for friends at school for a few years now, so they're pretty popular there, and I was able to make quite a bit for family, too, this year. I gave my family members each an individual plate of 10 chocolate chip/butterscotch and 8 of the tea cakes. I think this year was the most I've ever baked. Between school friends, my dad's friends in his Italian organization, some just for my brother, and for my family, I made about fifteen batches total. I know what you mean about using new gifts to cook more stuff - my cousins' family gave my mom these really nice cookie sheets, cutters, and cooling racks, so we were already thinking about cooking more! That must've been great not having to cook, right? My mom had surgery on her hand, so she couldn't, and my grandma did the meal this year. I know it's not fun to have her hand messed up, but I think my mom appreciated not having to worry as much. I've seen how much work goes into preparing a meal, but I can only imagine having to do it all myself!
